In today’s society there has been many different types of serial killers since the 1880’s that have different characteristic traits, behavioral traits, motives and environmental factors that have led the person to kill people. The general profile of a serial killer is a person that has had a very troubled childhood. They are usually arsonists, like to kill animals and have had bed wetting problems growing up past the normal age. Some serial killers have been in mental hospitals before committing the murders. All serial killers have different motives and are arranged in certain categories due to their types of crimes, if they have a signature or take a souvenir. Jack the Ripper is the first serial killer to create a big known scandal and has a big mystery as to who Jack the Ripper was. Its an intriguing case it makes criminologist wonder and try to figure out the big mystery to who Jack the Ripper was. Jack the Ripper killed prostitutes in the late 1880’s from August to November. This took place on the east side of London at night. The murders would occur in dark street at night and he would slash the women’s throats twice to make sure they wouldn’t yell and would create abdominal, genital and facial mutilations. Jack the Ripper would also remove the victim’s internal organs and would then leave them bleeding in the streets to be found the police leaving no trace. The serial killer’s name and nickname is Jack the Ripper which originated from a letter that was published and he had sent down to the police station; other nicknames he had were Leather apron and The Whitechapel murderer. The time span for the kills were sometimes from one month or two and would sometimes kill the next day after a kill. His first two victims were killed one day after the other and he would later wait two months for his next victims and so on. Jack the Ripper was one of the most famous and renowned killers in history. Even though he was not the first serial killer, he was the first killer to strike on a metropolis setting. Jack the Ripper was in his prime at a time when the media had a strong control over society and society as a whole was becoming much more literate. Annie Chapman was the second of the five main victims she was murdered on September 8th 1888(www.jack the ripper.org). The third and fourth victims shared the same day of death with a peculiar twist. All of the victims were more than likely unaware of their fates beforehand, he typically knocked them out before he would kill and maim them. Although these arguments make a lot of sense, there is only one killer. Jack the Ripper background had to be really bad including women that he though treated him wrong. There has always been murders and mass killings and when those events happen we ask ourselves and other “why did they do this?” or “Who would do this?” Well these questions and more came from one specific killer which everyone has heard at least once known as Jack the Ripper. the debate still rages on about Jack but the only questions we will answer today will be who he was, why he did the crimes, and how you could identify his victims. Not much is known about Jack the Ripper the only real knowledge we had of his life was that he was some form of surgeon because of his knowledge of the human anatomy and that the murders mostly took place on the weekend.
