Presidential Rhetoric President John F. Kennedy in his Inaugural Address addresses the country as the new president. Kennedy’s purpose is to give praise to America and to speak about the world and the upcoming war. He takes on a serious, authoritative tone using diction, metaphors, and parallelism while speaking to the US citizens and the world. Kennedy uses metaphorical sentences a variety of times during his speech to convey images with deep meanings into the heads of his audience. One metaphor he starts with is, “The torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans” (Kennedy 3).
