In The Crucible one character named John Proctor is the Tragic hero in the book. The reason that John Proctor is the tragic hero is because he has a novel background, John Proctor has a couple fatal flaws and at the end he does experience great suffering.

Proctor is the type of man that takes his pride and name more seriously than life itself, which leads to him becoming the tragic hero. Proctor plays a key role to the play and the outcome itself. Proctor tries to convince Deputy Governor Danforth and Judge Hathorns that Abigail is a liar, with the help of the testimony of Mary Warren. This back fires, he eventually confessed and was arrested, plus he was treated as if he was into the witchcraft, and he eventually is hung for his wrongdoings.
