John Tanton Illegal Immigration Analysis

The United States population is growing each and every second. “Americans manage to accept 1.2 million legal immigrants into the United States annually. Continuing that mass immigration guarantees an added 100 million people to the United States by 2035” (Wooldridge, par. 6 ). Although this immigration benefits the growth of the American society, some argue to build a barrier to completely stop immigration. In Dr. John Tanton's essay entitled “International Migration” he asks, "What restrictions are appropriate to today's world?”(par. 8). America is the result of years of immigrants adding to the economic growth of the country, and without changes to immigration laws it will have a negative impact on the country’s future. The United States government …show more content…

government realized that illegal immigration was affecting the population, they chose to make immigration laws. The immigration laws cause a lot of issues in the communities near the border. As Maria Jiménez , the director of the Immigration Law Enforcement Monitoring Project (ILEMP) said in the document, Enforcement of Immigration Laws Harms Border Communities, “Illegal immigration laws, she argues, create a "war zone" atmosphere in border communities” (par.1). Most of the time, the border patrols tend to cause this “war zone”. The document “Overview- Illegal Immigrants”, states that “The “Minutemen,” patrol the US/Mexico border on their own, seeking to capture those who illegally cross the border...these groups have been controversial and their efforts have sometimes ended in violence”( par. 7). Over time, we have seen the growth of an enormous government bureaucracy (the Immigration and Naturalization Service and Border Patrol) that harasses, abuses, and terrorizes large segments of the population”(par. 17). All of these examples prove that the majority of the immigration laws will create violence, and affect the surrounding …show more content…

[so] immigrants’ labor and entrepreneurship help to revitalize American industries and create more jobs than they take”( par. 10). Immigrants don’t actually take jobs from American citizens, because many come to create their own businesses which create more job opportunities. Jacob G. Hornberger also said that “traditionally immigrants are among the hardest working and most energetic people in a society, which brings positive vitality and energy”(par20). People should be paid by their efforts, not by where their from. People also “believe that all illegal immigrants are, by definition, lawbreakers, and thus are more likely to commit other crimes as well. Others link immigration with the illegal drug trade”(par. 9), as stated in the document, “Overview Illegal Immigrants,”. Although immigrants are thought to be the bad guys, immigrant rights activist Anne Carr argues that “immigrants commit crimes as often as American citizens, a fact true of both legal and illegal immigrants” (par.8). In the document, Immigration is not increasing crime rates they inform us that, there have been dozens of national
