Josquin Desprez Josquin Desprez is one of the best known composers during the Renaissance period. Not much is known about his early life, and it is speculated that his birthdate was during the year 1450, likely in Picardie which is a region north of Paris. He died August 27, 1521. Although there are many theories about his education, training, and career, it seems that he really started his rise to fame in the 1470’s when he became a singer for the courts of René I of Anjou and later began to work for the ruling family of Milan, the Sforza’s. In 1499 he became a choirmaster to Duke Ercole I of Ferrara, which is where he wrote the largely popular Miserere. He spent the later part of his life in France, which is where he served as a provost in the church of Condé. Josquin is viewed as one of the most important and influential composers of his time. His music was expressive and combined his musical innovations with traditional techniques that would later become the standard forms that many others would follow. Josquin wrote sacred and secular music and composed many motets, masses, and chansons. In his motets especially, Josquin liked to polyphony and textures to highlight the emotion of the text that was in the motet. He used

Corey Jones, a graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in Business Administration and Music, was so passionate about drumming that he organized monthly jam sessions where dozens of musicians from all over South Florida would come to the Bible Church of God and play gospel music—and sometimes a little R&B well into the night. By day, he worked as a public housing inspector and also mentored at My Brother’s Keeper, an organization for black youth, according to his LinkedIn Page. Jones carried a gun for protection because he hauled expensive drumming equipment during his gigs and would be paid in cash. Jones had both a permit and a concealed weapons permit.

Ruben Salazar was born on March 3, 1928, in Ciudad Juarez, and moved to El Paso, Texas where he grew up. Ruben Salazar was a well-known journalist and activist who brought together Chicanos and Americans. He was one of the first non-white journalists in an all-white male profession and proved that he was just as capable of journalism as all of them. Salazar brought together Americans and Chicanos in many ways, he reported on Chicano events and put himself in between a very tense boundary. Salazar began as a journalist for The Los Angeles Times and became a foreign correspondent until a new more powerful Chicano movement brought him back. The baby boomer generations started in 1943-1960 after world war two and the traditionalist felt safe they were able to have more babies than any other generation yet. They had so many newborn babies that a baby was born every nineteen seconds. This was the first time that mothers where able to enjoy their children and not have to worry about whether or not they could support them or that war would get in the way of a good living. There is also the idea that the baby boom was the result of the economy wanting to build up the number of its people so that they would be prepared for any war to come (Zemke, 2000).

Sacred music played a prominent part in ritual of the church. Motets and hymns became a part of Mass. The motet became a sacred form with a single Latin text. Motets in praise of the Virgin Mary were extremely popular because of the many religious groups devoted to Marian worship. Josquin Desprez, a popular master of the motet and influencer of many composers, composed more than a hundred motets and numerous secular pieces.
From 1400 to 1600 A.D., the Renaissance was a period of a rediscovery of Greek ideals for musicians to explore possibilities of their art. It was during this time that ideas were able to better circulate, because individualism began to increase, and the printing of music helped to preserve and distribute musical ideas (History). Also, as opposed to the medieval period, the Renaissance began to expand upon the type of sound that was created by adding the voices of women in choirs, as well as expanding instrumental music. The texture of music also began to change, with homophonic and polyphonic compositions. Sacred vocal polyphony was used rather than monophony in the form of masses and motets, while secular pieces also included madrigals and songs. Instrumental pieces usually were short during this time, and were for dancing (History).
Thus, it would anachronistic to suppose that by acknowledging that publishers of the Middle Ages printed music, they did it in the same way it is done today. Printing did, all things considered, increase the volume of publications, but it was still at a slow rate. This did not, however, hinder the new applications of printed music, but rather gave sheet music new life. Musical pieces could now be produced at higher volumes and spread throughout churches around the world. Printed music, moreover, was cheaper due to the higher quantity available, which enabled amateur and professional musicians alike to, as Grout and Palisca note, “form vocal, instrumental, and mixed ensembles to perform the available repertory.”3 Furthermore, higher quantities and easier reproduction of printed music ensured it
3. Medieval and Renaissance culture varied in many ways, aside from the differing music. In the Medieval age (the time between the 5th and 15th century), the church controlled many things, not only music. The church was in charge of education, the church also dominated politics. People very much feared God. Whereas in the Renaissance (15th and 17th century) the state ruled over the church. People in the Renaissance believed that God wasn’t some fearsome being, instead they believed more in logical and practical thinking.
