In the novel “The Hunger Games” Suzanne Collins conveys the qualities of a hero through the main character Katniss Everdeen. The novel is based around a dystopian nation, in which is placed in Panem. Through which a boy and a girl from each district must take part in ‘The Hunger Games’ where they have to fight to the death, until there is one survivor. Katniss subsequently evolves as a significant hero portraying the heroic qualities such as selflessness, identity change and intelligence. Selflessness is shown as she puts others before herself, her identity changes as she has to put up a brave face, and intelligence is displayed as her strategies progress in the games.

Katniss Everdeen is a brave, young protagonist in the Hunger Games. Her fierce fighting, and personality is what allows her to survive. Suzanne Collins, the author of the book (Hunger Games) does a tremendous job showing how the setting impacts the whole book. The story kicks off in a country called Panem. Its separated into 12 districts and a capitol.

Exposition: Although Katniss Everdeen is only a teenager, she's a tough hunter who puts food on her family's table. Her father is dead and she lives with her mother and sister Prim in District 12 in the country of Panem. Every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" (a boy and a girl) are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place.

These days, colors have become a very essential part of filmmaking and has a great power on how we perceive the character’s personalities. In this movie, the filmmakers uses the outfit colors to help readers discern the quality of the character. They accoutre Katniss in color black, blue, and yellow, to develop her as a character. Black is a color which symbolizes power. In the book Katniss shows power physically and mentally during the game.

The male tribute, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), a young baker was chosen as the male tribute. The catch is that Peeta has been in love with Katniss from when they were both young. She uses this emotion to design a plan for their survival. Catching Fire starts after they returned from game and have settled back into their lives.
