Emerald Bay is located in the Northwestern side of Catalina Island. Catalina is 46.9 miles from Los Angeles. Catalinas climate has very warm summers, but their winters can get to 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Some plants in Catalina include Cattail, Fire Poppys, and Gum Trees. Some animals that are also common in Catalina, are Bison, and Deer. There are many wonderful things you can do at this camp.

Plus, the majority of these species are endemic, which means that they are found only in Hawaii and nowhere else.

The barrier islands of Louisiana are vital for the protection of Louisiana’s coastal communities and its natural resources. They are the first line of defense from summer’s hurricanes and winter’s storms. However, barrier islands are no longer building naturally. Out of the six islands that make up Hawaii, the island of Oahu is the third largest and second oldest. Oahu is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and plate at a latitude and longitude of 21.4389° N, 158.0001° W (Wikipedia, 2016). The island was created from the pacific plate hot spot, a still active intrusion of magma. A hot spot is a geological feature where hot magma from the inside of the earth leaks out onto the Earth’s crust through cracks in the lithosphere. Once the ejected magma hardens it adds to the surface of the Earth, increasing the land elevation in the area surrounding the hot spot. Over millions of years, the collected cooled magma breaks the surface of the ocean, forming a small island. The islands of Hawaii were all formed from the same hot spot in the center of the pacific. The pacific plate moves in the Northwest direction relative to the North American plate due to typical plate tectonics. Many people go to Hawaii for a nice relaxing vacation, not knowing they’re right next to one of the five most active volcanos in the world,Kilauea. Kilauea had killed over 400 people in a single eruption. Kilauea is formed on a hotspot,or a place of significant activity or danger,this is one of the reasons Kilauea is so active. Kilauea has had many small eruptions, but the last large eruption lasted 30 years and was from 1983 to 2013. Kilauea may seem like any other regular volcano but it is much more dangerous.

As you know I am traveling to Hawaii tomorrow,so I can go see my Aunt Lindsay. Volcanoes in Hawaii are dangerously spewing lava into the sea. People who live in the area like tour guides need to avoid the danger it brings. “Tour boat captains whose vessels cruise along the shoreline are constantly watching the cliffs and lava to keep their passengers safe.”(Jones) The area is constantly changing because if the lava making new landforms so locals have to keep an eye out. The workers who work at the park need to keep an eye on the tourist. “On land, the National Park Service is responsible for the safety of visitors along the shore. In the project I created the website to format the information gather by Mayson and Tristan about the island. First I choose a free template to create a website in HTML editor, then started to format the website to fit the information and look nice. Next I found a picture to change the background of the website to a island that matched one similar to the one described in the book. After that, I added some lines and squares to the website to highlight the text in the home page and the other pages because of the multiple colors in the background. I set the opacity to small which allows the background to be seen well and the text to be bold enough to read. Now that the text is readable, I put the title and page bookmarks in and created the color and overlay of the text. The ideal vacation for me is somewhere nice and warm. A vacation where you are suppose to be able to unwind and relax. Being around somewhere that isn't school related or teachers. For me, a way to relax is not to be around loud things, like little kids and preferably somewhere peaceful. A good vacation is somewhere near a nice beach, where I can have a delicious barbeque while chilling with some music. If there was a break, I would choose to go to Hawaii or somewhere with a breathtaking view so I can take many pictures.
