As a student, Kevin Louis is quite the typical kind of person somewhat can call a "nerd" or "geek". Currently a senior at Deerfield Beach High School in his last year of being in a public school, he still has a long way to go to hopefully do something great in his life and succeed at something good. Challenges from the past such as living in quite a harsh lifestyle with his family to make ends meet to sometimes not being able to eat between two to three days intervals, he tries his best to continue his education as a way to hopefully support his family in the end. With him being not so spolied in the past due to the limited amount of money his parents had to raise him, it quite help him be a bit discplined and be thankful of what he has. Though, …show more content…
As technology continues to change over a period of time, so does how Kevin uses technology in his life. For aproxminately 5 hours of a day, Kevin would usually be on a computer doing stuff such as gaming or probably assisting his real life or virtual friend online. Sometimes if he isn't doing that, he sometimes goes out and takes pictures of random enviroments or hang out with his family members such as his brother or his cousins to pass the time seeing at school, he isn't really quite interested into the club listing they provide. For his family life, his parents both came from Haiti and both wished for a greater life, so they moved to the United States for better jobs and a greater lifestyle for their children. His mother, who is currently a Patient Care Assistant at Broward Health North while his father currently works at one of the many Golden Corals as a manager. His older brother, who currently living after a bit of college life, seems to be enjoying life to the fullest and doing a good job seeing he works as a Pharmiscist, while his little sister is still enjoy her fifth year of primary
Like many other teenage kids, the dream of having to be a cool kid in high school runs through their mind almost daily a few months before high school. Danny wasn’t any different. For many years as Danny had looked forward for the moment that would make him a cool kid. Finally, he got to high school where he could meet all the pretty girls, join the cool clubs, drive to school, and go to parties and dances including prom nights. Most importantly for Danny was making new friends, going to classes and studying hard to make good grades.
The majority of the “Freaks” do not always feel that they are worth much in the eyes of their teachers. Professors are more inclined to illicit discipline and less likely to offer guidance to those they wrongly feel are doomed for failure. Lindsay, although considered part of the Freak crowd, is an exception to this characteristic because she in fact feels like a big fish in a little pond. She has always received high marks on tests and was once a part of her school’s mathletes club. As a result she has been treated in a pleasanter way by facility at the school then some of her underachieving friends. Even the school’s guidance counselor makes a point to be involved in Lindsay’s life. Lindsay’s younger brother Sam encounters similar experiences in the school system. Because of Sam’s reputation as a nerd teachers offer him more guidance then other students. He is given more privileges within the school, such as access to the school’s tech room without an adult chaperone because of his role of being an academic “big fish.” Lindsay and Sam’s reputations within the school builds on teachers treating them with more respect, which creates a cycle of them continuing to outperform
Darren 's general attitude toward education is positive; he believes there is a definite benefit to his education and believes the school environment is somewhat encouraging and supportive. Darren is no longer on the baseball team at school, but he has played at various levels since he was 10 years old. Darren wants to graduate and join the military or become a welder. Both Darren and the Freemans feel education is very important to one’s success.
The image of ideal families has changed and is now looked at differently compared to years ago. But does technology and devices how to do with the separation of family? In a short story in Rereading America called “Quality Time Redefined”, author Alex Williams executes many interviews to try and see how media has impacted the lives of family. According to one of his observations there was one family in particular that stood out. Ms. Vavra a cosmetic industry executive spoke about an evening with her family: “…Their son, Tom, was absorbed by a Wii game on the wide screen television. Their daughter, Eve, was fiddling with a game app called the Love Calculator on an iPod touch.” Ms. Vavra recalled, “The family was in the same room but not together" (94). She was advocating about how her and her family was all sitting together but all of them were in their own little worlds with their devices. Technology has become very popular and advanced throughout the years. This may be the cause for why families
On the surface level, Paul B. Wilson, Sr. and I possess a couple of similarities; we both grew up on Cherry Street in Mahoningtown and I aspire to enter the medical field and become a veterinarian. However, if one were to analyze our lives, they would find that we work towards the same morals of life. During my career as a student at New Castle High School, I have learned how to become a better student and to continuously grow as a person. This building has morphed my character in a myriad of ways. Overall, it has taught me on how to be a better student, achieve higher grades, and apply an abundance of work to accomplish my goals. Due to this, I have earned a 4.93 GPA and a membership in National Honor Society. However, like Mr. Wilson, I
High school is an important time for developing a sense of who you are as a person. Each kid who starts out high school will usually asks themselves what they are there to accomplish. For the most part, many set personal goals for themselves and strive to achieve above and beyond. However, some are just there for the experience and to see where it takes them. It’s apparent that some kids have an easier time and don’t have to struggle with their high school career. For example, some of the students have followed strong academic paths that have prepared them for this time in their lives, where as others have struggled with educational influences and feel unprepared or lost. Swerdlow mentions that the students, who attend J.E.B. Stuart, are given many chances to improve their educational foundation in order to
The test or challenges that my hero has to go through to build their character was when Brady Kahle recently started "Cards for a Cause" when he heard that his Friend Laden had cancer that when he thought he could do something better with that money he will donate it to his friend and he will do it for all the people that are having a hard time with cancer. I think If he did not do that for his Friend Laden he wouldn't survive. These test are going to be hard for him because how about all the money he donated to them and they want more how is he going to get another $7,00,00 for other people that are having a hard time with other things he would want to donate some more money to them to. Yes he has multiple challenges because on the page Kids
“No matter your past, how you are perceived by friends, foe, or family, YOU have the opportunity to make your life as you desire. If you live in a tough and unfair life right now, change you mindset. Don’t think that is all life is or all you are. You can be whatever you want. If your life is as good as it gets, challenge your mindset. Learn to do something MORE, something to grow that person inside.” - Chad Brinkman. For this week’s paper I interview Mr.Brinkman about his transition to principal and his plans for the future.
The book The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth is a book that everyone should read at one point or be taught from in school. It explains school cliques, high school emotions, popularity, and outcast life. The author, Alexandra Robbins, studied many years, about a decade, for this novel to come to life. Throughout her words, she explains that outcasts, whether they are nerds, punks, losers, loners, “tree huggers,” math geeks, band members, etc, are the future of our world. I agree with her when she says that the qualities that people exclude for in school help individuals exceed in life.
Not only is he considerate toward Jonas, The Giver addresses the society’s problem at the end as well. When he and Jonas decide on the plan to escape to Elsewhere, the Giver knows that the people would be defenseless against their own inexperience and that he has to stay behind to help them deal with the exceeding amount of memories. The Giver states how he doesn’t want the Rosemary incident (this time being more severe since Jonas has a year’s worth of recollections) to happen again. The Giver had already served as Receiver of Memory for decades in the community by enduring the grief that accompanied the memories, yet he still dismisses Jonas’s offer to avoid the society’s imminent problems by running away. This further confirms that the
Kit Bauer still remembered his father’s words from last night. Kit, he had said in his cold, angry-but-attempting-to-be-patient voice. The work ethic that you have been showing lately is not acceptable. His mother just stood by and watched with hard eyes, as if silently scolding him while she let her husband do the dirty work. Ever since Kit was young, he had been bombarded by extracurriculars, unnecessary academic classes, and school student councils. Kit, his mother had said when he was 7. Taking that class for gifted and talented children will look fantastic on your Harvard application!
Keri Donahue involves herself with many community and school activities while having a hardworking mindset and perseverance. Her hard work can be exemplified by her induction into National Honor Society and the determination she uses during volleyball. Dan Donahue, Keri’s father, inspires her the most and instills a hard working mentality in her because he tries his hardest to put his children first and persevere through hard times. Likewise, Keri experienced many hard times in her life thus far. When she encounters a difficult time, she likes to be alone so that she possesses the opportunity to just think. On the same note, one of the hardest times of her life came as a freshman in high school when she became friends with a group of people
When he began his campaign for President, Donald Trump might have seemed like the possibility of a nightmare you would never experience. But with Ted Cruz withdrawing from the race, and Bernie Sanders( who polls cited as having the greatest chance against Trump in the General Election) far behind Hillary Clinton, we must now seriously accept the fact that Donald Trump may very well have a fighting chance to become the next President of the United States.
Unlike Bender, Brian would not need any guidance for proper behavior because he is a “teacher pleaser.” Brian is seen as a “geek,” one who enjoys participating in academic clubs, learning and always follows the rules. Brian’s confidence is linked to his grades, his parent’s perceptions and his peer’s perceptions of him.
Education is an important aspect of life no matter what age you are at and many seniors continue to want to learn as they get older. For older adults to be able to pursue education there are some obstacles that they may face, one of which is long walks from the parking spaces to the classroom and the cost of parking can deter them when even one class requires you to go to campus multiple times a week (Novak, 2012). A third reason is that they may have memories from when they were in school when they were younger (Novak, 2012). Not all older people go back to school to earn more money, some are focused on helping others with their education and not worried about the money (Novak, 2012). Throughout this paper I will look at some of the major theories of aging and how they coincide with education as an older person, staring with the life span development model.
