Providing abortions by trained professionals reduces the number of women who die due to unsafe abortions. Out of all medical procedures in the US, abortions are the safest when done by a trained professional in within the first trimester of pregnancy. They’re only dangerous when performed by an untrained professional. Unsafe abortions leads to the deaths of more than 47,000 women. Legalizing abortions reduces the number of abortion-related deaths: “The legalization of abortion on request in South Africa in 1998 saw abortion-related deaths drop by 91%” (Singer). If access to clinics that provide abortions is restricted, more women will seek help from providers that aren’t reliable which can lead to more deaths. We can prevent more accidents from occurring if more clinics are open for people. Not only do more safe clinics allow people have safer abortions, but also other aspects of healthcare. Funding clinics that provide abortions also helps fund other healthcare services. Planned Parenthood is the most commonly known clinic that provides abortions. During pregnancy, Type-1 and Type-2 lobules increases. This increases the number of sites for breast cancer to grow. Type-1 lobules are where 85% of all breasts cancers arise and Type-2 lobules are where 10-15% arise. Those lobules don’t mature unless they go through lactation. Maturation happen when the child in the womb produces hCG and hPL which prepares the mother to lactate. An abortion ends a pregnancy, which means that the lobules don’t mature. This leaves more sites for breast cancer to occur (Lanfranchi). Some abortions occur in order to ensure the safety of the mother due to complications that’ll happen if the fetus stays in her body.
