I read Leonardo da Vinci., by John Thomas. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1517) was an Italian Renaissance Polymath: artist, painter, sculptor, architect, musician, athlete, ideologist, writer, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, biologist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, poet, chemist, scientist, and philosopher. Leonardo had some close friends in his life, one of those people was Francesco Melzi (1491-1570). Melzi was Leonardo da Vinci’s pupil until Leonardo’s death. Melzi was born in Milan, Italy and died in Vaprio d 'Adda, Italy. Another of Leonardo’s friends/pupils was Salai. Salai was only a nickname for this Florentine artist. His real name was Gian Giacomo Caprottida Oreno. Salai was a pupil of Leonardo. Salai was born in …show more content…
The last supper is considered to have been started in 1495 and was commissioned as a plan to make the monastery look more vibrant. The painting represents the scene of The Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples, as it is told that in the gospel of John, 13:21. Leonardo has depicted the consternation that occurred among the twelve disciples when Jesus announced that one of them would betray him. Since it was tempera on gesso, pitch and mastic, very little of the painting remains today. Another on of Leonardo’s famous masterpieces is the Battle of Anghari. The battle of Anghari (1505) is a lost painting at times referred to as “The Lost Leonardo”, which some believe to be hidden beneath one of the later frescoes in the Salone dei Cinquecento (The Hall of Five Hundred) in the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence. Its depicted as four men riding raging war horses engaged in a battle for possession of a standard, at the battle of Anghari in 1440. Many preparatory drawings and cartoons by Leonardo da Vinci Still exist. Mona Lisa is The greatest art by Leonardo and widely recognized as the greatest painting of all time. The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait of a peasant woman. Usually wealthy royalty or rich merchants would ask for a portrait and Leonardo would never even start it. For some reason Leonardo accepted a commission of a peasant. Leonardo is one of the greatest artists to ever live. His master pieces will be

Leonardo da Vinci was known for a number of famous paintings. “The Last Supper” is one of the most famous paintings in the world, and is by far my favorite artwork created by Leonardo da Vinci. Mr. da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Anchiano, Italy. His parents named him Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. In 1495, At the age of forty three, Leonardo began working on “The Last Supper” mural and continued working on the masterpiece till February 9, 1498 says khanacademy.org. The painting is located in the back of the dining hall at the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The mural is a rather large fresco style painting, measuring in size of 181 inches by 346 inches. On May 2, 1519 Leonardo da Vinci died the age of 67 in Clos Luce, France. I have decided to analyze this wonderful piece of art, because of my love for Jesus Christ. The Last Supper draws my attention, because it gives me a visual of the last supper Jesus Christ had with his disciples, that we read about in the Holy Bible.
Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” was painted during his time in Milan, which was from about 1495 to 1498. “The Last Supper” is a tempera and oil mural on plaster. He created this painting for the refectory of the city’s Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Also known as “The Cenacle,” this painting is about fifteen by twenty nine feet and is the artist’s only surviving fresco. The painting depicts the Passover dinner, in which Jesus Christ addresses the Apostles and says, “One of you shall betray me.” One of the painting’s most vivid features in the painting is each Apostle’s distinct emotive expression and body language. When the French in 1499 (invaded Milan) and the Sforza family fled, da Vinci also escaped. He was possibly the first to Venice and then to Florence.
Leonardo da Vinci was born in Vinci, Italy, in the year 1452. Born into the Renaissance era, da Vinci was a possessor of a curious mind and keen intellect. He not only built his occupation as an artist, but also as a mathematician, inventor, writer, draftsman, and engineer. Although he received no formal education, da Vinci was able to understand the engineering behind many of his designs, some of which included the tank and crossbow (on a larger scale). As an artist, some of his ideal works included Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and Virgin of the Rocks.
Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, inventor, and military engineer which is the perfect example of a “Renaissance man.” With a curious mind, da Vinci studied the laws of science and nature, which greatly informed his work. His ideas and body of work have influenced countless artists and made da Vinci a great influence of the Italian Renaissance.
Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci originally named Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452 in a town located in Florence's territory called Vinci. Da Vinci was the son of a wealthy man named Messer da Vinci and a peasant woman named Caterina who were not married prior to his birth. In 1466, da Vinci was the apprentice of an artist named Andrea di Cione who was known for his workshops in Florence. After surpassing di Cione in skills, da Vinci went onto be known as the Guild of Saint Luke. Years later, da Vinci would go onto create one of the most mysterious works of art known as the Mona Lisa.
While live in Milan, duke Ludovico Sforza asked da Vinci to paint The Last Supper around the year of 1495 on the back wall in the dining hall of the Milan’s Santa Marie delle Grazie. This masterpiece took Leonardo 3 years to finish marking it to be 1498 to shows us the moment of when Jesus told the 12 disciples that one of them whom had gathered with him for the Passover dinner would soon betray him just before he was caught and crucified. Leonardo painted this moment to reveals the reactions of the 12-discipled face as they were told this information. This work of art that da Vinci painted if bound one of my top favorite works of art that he as
The Last Supper, by Leonardo da Vinci, is one of the most famous works of art in the world. This painting represents the religious ceremony with Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples. This is the last meal that was shared between him and his disciples before his arrest and his untimely crucifixion. Leonardo was commissioned to execute the painting in the Dominican monastery of this Church by Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Leonardo da Vinci was an artist, scientist, architect, author, engineer, inventor, and humanist. He was born in 1452 near Vinci in Italy, and died in Amboise, near Tours France in 1519. The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa are his most famous works of art.
Another very famous work of art he did was called The Last Supper. He was commissioned in 1495 to paint this mural for a church being renovated. He worked on this painting from 1495-1499. Sadly very little of the original painting remains because of the methods used to make it has been effected by the environment and intentional vandalism. There are many beliefs about the painting such as it being a mathematical and astrological puzzle. Many people believe there is also a hidden meaning or other reasons for being
Leonardo created The Mona Lisa from 1503–1517. The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous paintings in the world. Her face is most known. Plus it is the most visited, written about, snug. It is known as the most famous piece of work. Mona Lisa was supposed to be Lisa Gherardini, wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco Del Giocondo. But there is some much mystery about the painting that no one known who, or what the painting is supposed to be about. Mona Lisa smile portrays happiness. The painting is made out of oils, and paints. The second piece of art work that made Leonardo famous would have to be The Last Supper. When Leonardo work with the Duke. The Duke wanted a painting of Jesus and the Apostles at the Last Supper. The original mural is on a wall in Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. It took Leonardo three years to paint the Mural. The mural is remarkable because of its human, identifiable emotions. It took from 1495–1498. The condition of The Last Supper it is in terrible shape soon after the completed piece on February 9, 1498 it began to deteriorate. By the sixteenth century Giovan Paulo Lomazzo stated that, “he painting is all ruined”. He used plaster to create the master piece. The form of the mural is represent Jesus and his apostles. Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper is a masterpiece painting created during the Renaissance in the late fourteenth century. The Last Supper was commissioned by Duke Ludovico Sforza for the refectory of monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Leonardo painted this masterpiece by using oil/tempera mix and then adding it to drywall. Da Vinci designed it this way because he wanted the painting to have the look of an oil painting. It began to wear off within his lifespan.
“The Last Supper” was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci from 1495-1498; Leonardo painted on a dry plastered wall with an oil and tempera mixture (Boomer). Unfortunately, it began peeling almost immediately (Boomer). The painting’s restoration was done by many people throughout the years but Pinin Brambillia Barcilionwas the most recent, she completed and opened “The Last Supper” to the public by May of 1999 (Last Supper). This painting captured the moment in which Jesus announces to the apostles that he knows one of them will betray him (Last Supper). The apostles are captured in their sense of astonishment immediately after this announcement(Last Supper). It was common to see Biblical stories painted everywhere because the Duke at this time wanted to express the feelings and emotions during the times in the Bible. Paintings like this one were also done because it was the rise of Catholicism in the renaissance. Religion also ties in with Music and literature in the Italian Renaissance
Leonardo's "Last Supper" is a priceless piece of art with much hidden meaning and obvious talents bestowed upon a wall. Under the study of Verrocchio as a painter and a sculptor, he was able to use his skills in creating a very detailed and a very naturalistic piece of work that would be remembered for hundreds of years. He was also able to create characters with amazing individuality. Not only was his portrayal of the characters magnificent, but the symbolism he used which emphasized the story being told in the "Last Supper".
As we all know the Last Supper is the last dinner that Jesus shared with his Apostles before he was betrayed and crucified. Although this theme occurs in many works, The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is the most famous and has been a subject of many discussions.
