She was a member of the U.S. Women's gymnastics team at the 2012, Summer Olympics. She won two gold medals in both the individual all-around and team competitions. She was the first African American woman in Olympic history to be the individual all-around champion. Gabby Douglas was nicknamed the flying squirrel because she is always aloft in the air and also because she can swivel high in the air. Douglas was born in Newport News, Virginia. Gabby Douglas started gymnastics at the age of three, after her oldest sister convinced her mom to put her in. In October 2010, at the age of 14 Douglas moved from her home in Virginia Beach to West Des Moines, Iowa, to train under Liang Chow, the former coach of Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson. Later on Gabby did a flip and plummeted down on her hamstring and strained it. When Gabby strained her hamstring, she became stationary, so she had to find ways to stay fit. In August 2013, after Gabby had won two gold medals, she moved to Los Angeles to be with her family. Gabby Douglas is no longer training with Chow. Gabby is training to go to the 2016, Rio Olympics. In Rio The water is polluted. In December 2012, Gabby was named the Female Athlete of the Year because of her superb job in the
The Red Heart Invitational (hosted by Bay Aerials Gymnastics in Fremont) and the Delta Classic Gymnastics Invitational (hosted by Champion’s Gymnastics Academy) only guarantees medals from 1 to 10th place, maybe lower if there are ties. When I competed there, there were about 25 to 30 other gymnasts. When you do the math, not everyone recieved a medal, let alone in each event (vault, beam, bars, floor)! When gymnasts see each others place better than them, they will understand not everyone wins in everything and then will learn to control their jealousy. This teaches young gymnasts that you won’t be the best every time, yet it is acceptable and expected to be proud of yourself. Also, children are most likely not to throw tantrums at the medal ceremony, seeing as they are representing their gym. Likewise, it is customary to shake hands on the podium- both who you beat and who beat you. As a result, gymnasts develop a good attitude and are taught to put wins in perspective. Although some people might have a different opinion, gymnasts actually won’t get a large ego from winning. Sure, a gymnast might have won at the competition the weekend before, but the coach is still going to make him/her do the same amount of conditioning as the others! Also, someone just can’t get first all the time, so he/she will be seeing others place better than him/her- therefore, gymnasts will realize they can’t win every time (really true in real life!).
This year in our English 1010 class, we covered many different genres and types of writing. We covered how to write personal narratives, how to respond to other students and other forms of writing, and how to professionally write essays. Briefly, we touched down on how to write argumentatively and were also required to create an infographic, wish was probably my favorite assignment. Although I never thought of myself as a strong writer, I believe that this class has greatly improved not only my writing skills, but my thinking skills as well. This was my first English class to be taken through dual enrollment and I believe that it went quite successfully while challenging me as a writer.
Gabby Douglas is true to her beliefs, and her personality shows that she is helpful to the world, and her family and she shows exceptional execution in gymnastics Gabby shows long and beautiful lines specifically in bars, floor, and beam. She is very powerful in the vault, as well. In the text, it states, “I compete for each element with great grace and strength… I will flow beautifully” (Douglas 192). This quotation supports the thesis statement because it shows how Gabby Douglas has long and beautiful lines on the uneven bars. Gabby’s only specialty is the uneven bars, but she occasionally does very well on the balance beam. Gabby Douglas can hit on beam, and when she does, it is an exceptional routine to watch. The text supports this by
Gabby changed gyms and soon became the state champ in 2004 after only four years of formal training (Gabby Douglas). She continually won first at all of the meets (Gabby Douglas).Gabby’s mom noticed that her talent was becoming too much for the gym she was training at. After watching Shawn Johnson at the 2008 Olympics and being compared to Dominique Dawes, one of the greatest African American gymnast, she knew that the Olympics were a perfect fit for her (Schoeller, Martin). The only issue she had with getting to the Olympics was her current coaching. She needed to go to West Des Moines, Iowa to train Liang Chow. He is an elite gymnastics coach known for coaching Shaun Johnson and many other gymnastics icons. With Chow, Gabby could master the necessary skills to be able to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. Gabby left her home at age 14. Her mom flew with her up to Chow’s Gym and scheduled a meeting with him. There Chow told Gabby that she would be living with a host family for the time she was in Iowa. At the gym that day Missy Parton introduced herself to Gabby as her her host mom (Douglas, Gabrielle). Missy took Gabby home and introduced her to her husband and three girls. Gabby and the girls hit
English has never been an easy subject for me. It is something that I've needed to work at constantly in order to achieve a grade that I am satisfied by or more likely, my parents are satisfied by. Throughout high school I have been a person who is naturally gifted in mathematics, physics and chemistry. These subjects are straightforward to me because I knew if I worked harder I would obtain a higher grade, but with English it always seemed that even if I put in more effort it wasn't a given that I’d see better results.
English 102 is a college level of reading and writing course based on the theme monster. When I started the class, I thought monsters as scary creature in the books and movies. As I progressed in English 102, I found out monsters is more than what I though t is. Monsters can represent the fear of people and society, a problem in a society, something that is keep coming back and coming back(Such as financial crisis), natural hazard and danger. It also can serve as a warning; so, people avoid the same mistakes.
I recently completed an anatomy class, and the professor posed a question to us. He said something along the lines of, "The controller of the entire body, its functions, its thoughts, its nerves, of everything, is the brain. How can we be sure all of that is true? That's simply what the brain is telling us is true." So what does it really mean to be human? Is there a correct answer, or are there wrong answers? Is everything that you personally believe correct because there is no definite answer to this perplexing question?
Coming into junior year and taking an AP English class, I am extremely nervous. Outside of English, I am taking two other AP classes, so I am worried about the work load that I will be responsible for throughout the year. I have heard from my older sister that AP English is a fun, great class. Throughout my eleven years of school, I have always been one to challenge myself and I fell that by taking AP English I will be challenging myself once again. I am looking forward to a good year this year.
Advanced Placement classes were something that I have considered and that I continue to consider. A challenge and a college credit is why I would like to take this AP English course. In addition, I would like to take this AP class to ameliorate my weaknesses in grammar and vocabulary. I believe that this class could also benefit in my career, learning harder vocabulary so I can sound more intelligent when I speak. However, considering how nerve racking it is for me to be joining an AP class since the workload maybe overkill, I wish for this class to build up important writing skills.
At the “Nastia Liukin Cup”, Gabby made her television debut, and placed fourth all around. Then she went on to the “Covergirl Classic,” and placed third on beam, sixth on vault, and ninth all around. At the, “2010 Junior National Championship”, she won silver

My awards include NJ LEEP: Most Diligent Student Award, NJ LEEP: Most Improved Essay, Cross Country Group Medal, NJ LEEP: Summer Law Institute Mock Trial, and NJ LEEP: Vocabulary Competition. In terms of personal growth, I overcame my fear of heights and public speaking. I was once afraid of riding rollercoasters because I was afraid of falling off the ride; however, the older I grew up, I began liking rollercoasters because the more I rode it, the more fun it became. I found that my fear of heights was a mental challenge I had to face myself, and, eventually, I overcame this challenge. In addition, as a freshman, speaking in public and presenting in front of a group of people were horrifying; however, as time went on, public speaking became
