Dear, Mr.John Feinstein Date : 9/12/2015 My name is Taylor Howell and I attend Sanford High school in Hockessin, Delaware. I have just recently read one of your top novels Foul Trouble. Foul Trouble was such a suspenseful book but yet a life lesson teaching novel that I would encourage any teenager to read. Foul Trouble was about a star basketball player named Terrell Jamerson. He is one of the best in the nation for high school basketball with his teammate and best friend Danny Wilcox who is also shining with him but feels not appreciated. They try to get through the popularity and the gates of being caught with narcotics this could make Terrell and Danny not eligible to be recruited by colleges and change their lives for the worst. However, Danny is caught in the shadows of Terrell and it makes Danny feel as though he is not as important as Terrell on the court. I was looking for a book that would teach life lessons and also have a very vigorous climax and foul trouble was the perfect match. I would never have thought that Foul Trouble would have that powerful of an effect on me as it did and how that one false step could change your whole career. …show more content…
Once before I was caught in the same predicament. One of my friends was bribing me to with him instead of my other friend, but then I realized just don't go with him because he is offering me compensation. I thought about it and then chose to go with the friend that did not try to bribe me into going with them for
The novel that I read over winter break was The DH, by John Feinstein, who is known for his books regarding sports mysteries. The DH, falls under that genre of realistic fiction, along with other books by Feinstein. The novel is one of three books in the series and is the last one. Alex Myers the main character, is an all-star athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attending Chester Heights High. Alex has needed to take care of himself, and his sister Molly, because their dad has been MIA ever since their parents got divorced. On top of all of Alex's stress, his baseball season starts as he finds out his football teammate, Matt Gordon, is eligible to play baseball after found guilty for taking
Today, I’m standing in a crowd watching my best friend Hester Prynne look down upon us on the scaffold at the edge of the marketplace due to the adultery she has committed. I’ve known her for probably 7 years now. We met on a Sunday after church was ending. To me it seems as if Hester really liked out minister Dimmesdale the way she gazed upon him during the sermon. We became friends on a Thursday night when she invited me to dinner. Hester really had some good qualities for a woman in a puritan village. She was quite handy with her needle work, her appearance showed her magnificent personality due to the way she dressed herself. As we grew close as friends I wanted to ask her about the way she felt about the minister. One night we were out and I
Have you ever wondered how demons try and lead us away from God and begin to sin? In the Screwtape Letters C.S Lewis shows us how a demon named Screwtape guides his nephew Wormwood on how to make sure their “patient” stays away from Christianity. The Screwtape Letters is an Epistolary novel that was written during World War II. In this novel God is considered “The Enemy” and Satan is “Our Father.” The main characters in this novel are Wormwood, Screwtape, and the patient. Screwtape is a demon who writes his nephew Wormwood from hell. Screwtape teaches his nephew the different steps of keeping his “patient” away from God. Humans are called patients by demons because they are trying to lead humans away from God. In this novel we don’t really
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a key figure in the civil rights movements that took place in the 1950s and 1960s. The “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” is an open letter written by King defending nonviolent resistance against racism. The letter argued that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust and unethical laws. The letter also stresses themes of unity among brothers in order to overcome racism. I will argue in support of King’s stance that citizens are morally justified in breaking unjust laws and that openly and responsibly opposing unjust laws is itself a duty of every citizen.
“The battle you are going through is not fueled by the words or actions of others; it is fueled by the mind that gives it importance” – Shannon L. Alder. The novel, Hoops by Walter Dean Myers, follows the life of Lonnie Jackson, a high school student from Harlem who has an unusually impressive talent for playing basketball. Lonnie’s goal in life is more than just being one of the best players to ever hit the court; for Lonnie wishes to create a new life for himself– one that is free from the struggles of Harlem streets. This goal along with his environment bring constant conflicts in Lonnie’s journey, which gradually develops his character from self-centered to compassionate. Lonnie’s professional relationship with Cal Jones as well as his bond with Paul and Mary-Ann guide him on how to both become a respected player and how to grow up into a noble man.
When he was arrested and jailed in Birmingham, Alabama he then fell under criticism by white clergy for coming to Birmingham as an “outsider” to cause trouble and increase tension through public sit-ins and marches. I feel that Martin Luther King was able to both set aside that criticism by establishing his credibility to have not only been invited to come to Birmingham to help end the injustice to the Negro people via peaceful means, but he was able to identify moral, legal and ethical cause to promote his quest to put a stop to what he identified as “the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States” (King, 2017, p, 3). I will provide a summary that will show what Martin Luther King believed were the cause of the injustice that he was striving to end to as well as his concern over the white community’s ability to make the Negro “wait for more than three hundred and forty years for our constitutional and God-given rights.”
Martin Luther King Jr., a peaceful advocate for civil rights, was jailed for his non-violent protest against segregation. During his stay at the Birmingham Jail, a group of religious leaders publically attacked him with criticisms for his peaceful protest. As a counter attack, King wrote 'The Letter From Birmingham Jail'. This counter was successful for King was able to analyze and address his audience, refer to historical and religious figures and utilize anaphoras, making this letter, one of the most impressive argumentative essays.
Mr. Ewell - Mr. Gilmer is asking me questions, He wants me to tell them what happened, I stood up and screamed “I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella!” I feel so good now. The Judge just told me to keep my testimony in Christian English. Who does he think he is? The Judge is now asking me questions. I answered him and quickly left the stand and I ran right into Atticus. He told me he wanted to ask me questions and I have to go back to the witness stand. He is probably going to ask me something stupid. He is asking if I heard Mr. Tate’s testimony. I guess that is ok to say yes. He wants to know what eye was bruised on Mayelle. I keep telling him I agree with what Mr. Tate stated. He said her left eye. Now he is asking me to write my name. He is saying I am left handed. He is just asking it over and over again. I think he is catching on to me. I will just stick to my story. Ok, I am done. He is calling Mayella. She needs to keep telling my story. I hope she does not snap under the pressure. She is crying on the stand. If she keeps to the plan we will finally get rid of that stupid negro. Atticus is about to lose. There is no way the jury will say a black guy is innocent. He will pay for what he did to Mayella. Atticus will pay for trying to protect Tom. The jury thought for longer than they should have. They are back now, what have they decided. Tom was found guilty!! Now he is in jail, I won. I saw Atticus at the post office and spat in his face
My name is Taylor Howell and I attend Sanford High school in Hockessin, Delaware. I have just finished reading one of your top novels Foul Trouble. I wanted to tell you I enjoyed your novel. Foul Trouble was about how The book focused on Terrell Jamerson, the #1 recruit in high school basketball with his point guard and best friend, Danny Wilcox, sharing the spotlight with him. They try to survive the fame and temptation of drugs that could mark them as ineligible to being recruited by colleges. Although Danny plays in the shadow of his best friend yet he still gets noticed by other players for his leadership on the court. I was looking for a book that would teach life lessons and also have a very vigorous climax
I read your book Perfect Chemistry. I loved the book for several reasons. The characters came from opposite worlds. For example when Alex said about Brittney “ This is Brittney Ellis, this summer she went to the mall, bought new clothes so she could expand her wardrobe, and spent her money on plastic surgery to enhance her assets. ”Brittany's response was “ this is Alejandro Fuentes, when he wasn't hanging out on street corners, and harassing innocent people this summer, he toured the inside of jails around the city.” They were two characters from different worlds, but they both loved their families and would do anything for them even if that meant getting killed. Everyone believed Alex was disreputable, but that was because people believed
Dear Gabby, I’ve been a bystander before and I’ve had some sort of situation I see students cyberbullying eachother online such as calling eachother names and other lots of negativity is involved and I think that student might be feeling under pressure or depressed by the students negativity to them and I’m not sure what to do but only say nothing to help that person. What should I do Gabby?
I have just returned from holiday to a letter from the Witness Care Unit notifying us of the sentencing of Jamie Brand. I feel the case was dealt with in black and white and that the real affect this man has inflicted on our lives has not been taken into account with the length of sentence.
I received violation 101 for parking without a permit. However, I did not see any signs indicating that you had to have a permit for that specific lot. Additionally, I was simply there to drop of a friend and didn't plan on leaving the vehicle, but I wanted to make sure he found his way before leaving
I feel honoured to get your letter and found the information you shared with me very important. I’m writing this letter to You because I have a couple things from the letter that really stuck with me and a couple questions for You. First of all, I find it very important that you see what I could be. Right now, I don’t really know what I want to do with my life and knowing that you see the potential I have, gives me hope for the future. I want to keep working toward what I could become. Also, I know that you give me challenges because you want me to improve and work through problems, but sometimes there's too many challenges. I get overwhelmed with all the obstacles I have to face and don’t always want there to be a hurdle
