Lincoln's Response To The Gettysburg Address

The gettysburg address was said by Abraham Lincoln, where he honors the dead and encourages the living to go out and finish the war. In his speech he uses repetition, alliteration, and antithesis to demonstrate recognition to those who departed. The passionate and certainty of the speech was used to convey his point. Although, repetition was a contributing factor.

In the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln basically stated that all men are created equal. He delivered this speech in July of 1863 to remind the American people of the principles in which the United States was founded on. Also, in a speech to members of the Democratic party in 1863, Lincoln pointed out that many freedmen were willing to fight for the Union, and yet the Democrats were unwilling to fight for them. If they were not willing to fight for the freedmen, then they should at least fight for the union. Lincoln goes on to say that he issued the proclamation on purpose to help the democrats in saving the union.

As Lincoln is trying to persuade people that are listing to his speech about how all men are created equal he has two statements trying to get the readers/listeners that all men are created equal. Lincoln has stated "The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract"(paragraph 3). President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address clearly shows the cause for which the Union soldiers and officers bravely fought. The equality and freedom they fought for are easily misunderstood but not by President Lincoln. The equality he spoke of does not mean that each individual is completely the same, making their capability equal. Instead, it means that no individual is valued more than another because every citizen has the same value under God.

The time of the speech was towards the end of the civil war, when the North and the South where still fighting after a bitter 4 year war. The battle of Gettysburg had already been fought and Lincoln had given the distinguished Gettysburg address just a few months before. He spoke of freedom, devotion, and the ideals for which he believed the Union stood. Lincoln took the seat at a very difficult time in America’s early history, which was the Civil War. Lincoln made sure that after the war, that America rebuilds itself. One thing from Lincoln’s iconic speech that is not forgotten is “all men are created equal”. In today’s society, all people are granted the same freedoms and equalities. It could be said that Lincolns speech though was given in 1863 was the start of the Civil Rights movement in a sense. Kari thinks that since she was not there, it is not fair that the professor put her in a group that she cannot meet with. With her missing so many classes she is losing interest and not able to do her in classwork. With Kari working 9-5 she is unable to attend her classes which she thinks she is fine missing it since she gets the notes from what she missed. All she knew she needed to get a degree to try to further her advancement in her job.

Although Virginia and New England colonists shared many differences, many came from a common background. Almost all colonists could trace their heritage to European starts, mainly England. Many colonists came to the New World to start over, whether for religious or economic reasons.

The tone and stage are set with the background of the great battle field of Gettysburg’s. Our nation is involved in a great civil war between its brothers with two different views and divisions. President Lincoln has the daunting task as the President of the United States to bring healing to this torn country; to remind the country that it was only 87 years earlier that this young country started on its great experiment. The thesis statement answers the question and reminds the audience that all men are created equal and that the basis on which our country was founded on was liberty and equality.

The Gettysburg Address is one of the most famous speeches in American history. The History Place indicates that on November 19, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln went to a battle field positioned in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where three dreadful days of battle occurred called the Battle of Gettysburg. Enron was a corporation that reached heights unknown, only to watch it fall apart from the inside out based on a foundation of falsehoods and cheating. Enron established a business culture that flourished on competition and was perceived in society as an arrogant corporation, mainly because of its corporate leadership. The fairytale of Enron actually ended as a nightmare with it destroyed by one of America’s largest bankruptcies in history. The demise of Enron impacted the livelihood and futures of numerous employees, their pensions, and in due course impacted Wall Street in a significant way. Even people today are amazed at how such a powerful company met its demise so rapidly. Enron’s end was a product of greed when certain executives of Enron were not eager to accept the failure of their company. The company utilized mark-to-market accounting that detailed the projected impending profits from a long-term deal (Lawry, 2015, p. 28) The results of the deals did not generate revenue as anticipated, but tremendous loss instead. This resulted in Enron accumulating enormous amounts of debt that they attempted to keep classified from the public. Ultimately the truth came to fruition.
