The dictionary defines gilded as "covered thinly in gold leaf or gold paint or wealthy and privileged"; the period between 1870 and 1900 was called the “Gilded Age” because during this era, inventions increased industrial growth, cites expanded, new jobs were becoming available, individuals’ intelligence was increasing, and everyone was becoming wealthier. During this era, one of the most important pieces of our society was created, the telephone.
