Like hot coals, the black sand scorched the bottoms of Lyra’s feet as she frantically jumped from one foot to the other every few seconds. “Ow! Ow! Omg I should've brought my shoes with me!” Lyra exclaimed as another pained “Ow!” ripped from her vocal cords. “Ya think?” Her friend sarcastically yelled back, clenching her teeth as she mimicked Lyra’s movements, hopping between her both her feet. Given the circumstances, it felt like Lyra would never be able to walk again, and another flash of searing pain thrashed across the soles of her barefeet, but lets just save this little part of the story for later. Whenever Lyra heard something about a vacation being planned, it sounded like pure music to her ears. To her, a vacation meant no homework, no studying, no …show more content…
Because this trip was a school trip, Lyra and her classmates would finally get to visit their sister school; Matapalo Elementary School. As part of the trip requirements, Lyra had to bring school supplies with her to help support their sister school. This felt like a majorly rewarding experience for her, as she got to give supplies to those who really needed them, meet new friends and exchange customs and hobbies with them as well! There was one last stop to the beach before Lyra would get back on the plane home. This destination was known for its dark colored sand, hence its name, La Playa Carbon (otherwise known as Black Sand Beach). Although Lyra would have liked to say that this was the best way to conclude her trip to Costa Rica, that would not be entirely truthful. The sun was shining abnormally bright, which in return caused the black sand to come ablaze! Furthermore, swimming in these waters were not as pleasant as back in Playa Grande; the majority of the class, including Lyra, ended up leaving with bleeding cuts from the sharp, unforgiving coral that rested hidden in the shallow depths of the
1. Read "Cincinnatus Saves Rome: A Roman Morality Tale" (5-1b). In this excerpt, does Livy's story appear to be historically valid? Why or why not? Why were the "common folk" less pleased than the officials at seeing the Dictator? Were their fears accurate and what were their views of him likely to have been twenty days later? What elements of this story inspired later generations to hail Cincinnatus as "the noblest Roman of them all"?

As many people wouldn’t believe I, Mikayla Ann Lee or Miki, was born up north in Hartford, Connecticut . . . I know the horror! But thankfully my family and I moved down to South Carolina when I was merely two years old. I caught on to the southern ways rather fast besides my quickened voice and unpleasant dislike for sweet tea. Shortly after that we moved to Texas were all you see are trucks, ranches, and open land. This started my love affair with Ford trucks.
I can’t give you the whole denotation about me because there is no single definition about me. People have many different ideas that characterize how they perceive Mikayla NaSya Lewis. Even strangers create their personal ‘Mikayla’ in their mind, and all of those different concepts of me create who I am and what I represent.
Last year, 2016, scaled to my first tournament that would be played at Marista. I would not

“What’re you still doing here?” Yolanda came into the breakroom, looking every bit as tired as Phil felt. Her sneakers, damp from the storm she’d weathered out on the floor squelched with every step as she made her way to the lockers. “Didn’t your vacation start an hour ago?”
The main beach in Los Cristianos is Playa de los Cristianos, but the neighboring beach of Playa de Las Vistas is the more popular of the two. Las Vistas is a 1km crescent of soft, golden sand imported from the Sahara Desert. A southward location and breakwaters built along the sides ensure a calm and shallow crystal blue water, perfect for little swimmers. There is a lifeguard on watch and plenty of activities for the active beachgoer, including volleyball nets, banana boats, jet skis and parasailing. Sunbathers will appreciate the abundance of lounge chairs and sunshades, and perhaps a cool drink from one of the beachside bars. Restaurants, ice cream kiosks and public restrooms make Playa de Las Vistas a convenient and family-friendly
If you were in a place where young girls were worked to exhaustion every day, in dangerous surroundings, wouldn’t you want to save them? In the novel Lyddie by Katherine Patterson, the main character, Lydia Worthen, a.k.a. Lyddie, works in just this type of factory in the same conditions .Her family is in debt, her father is gone, her mother is dead, and she is the oldest responsible child. She is faced with the choice of whether to sign a petition to improve the lives of factory girls, or refuse and avoid being blacklisted. If I were Lyddie, I would sign the petition because I have enough money to live on my own, my family needs to be supervised, and I am in imminent danger if I don’t sign the petition.
Lyra is a character in the book the golden compass. I am writing this essay about why I think Lyra is a hero. Well, what is a hero? In my opinion, a hero is someone who is noble, confident, and qsomeone who shows great perseverance. In the golden compass, Lyra was noble when she chose to fight with the master, and lord asriel, who were clearly good.

Growing up isn’t as easy as it seems, it's a very difficult process that we go through in our life. Like from the novel “Northern Lights” by the author Philip Pullman, Lyra became her own individual once she went against her mother and said “no” to the separation she wasn't as innocent as we would had thought. All children grow up but some people as they get older they grow apart from their inner self, from who they really are either to fit in to or for religious reasons. Like Lyra’s mom who was so distant from her soul (daemon), she grew to be an alien and stranger to herself, she didn't actually reach adulthood as an individual. While on the other hand, Lyra developed at a very young age and became more mature than her own parents. Her cleverness and disobedient character and her insistence on becoming something gave her the chance to mature. To grow up isn't just a physical change in appearance, it's more of a mental and spiritual growth. Just like what we noticed between Lyra and her mom in the book “Northern Lights” that was about the journey of growing up and how some adults never do. This paper will explain how growing up is shown and who actually develops and
