Malcolm X, a previous troubled prisoner, changed his life through education and wrote an autobiography about Negro importance. While in prison, Malcolm X had nothing to do and wanted to be educated, so he decided that he was going to read the dictionary to learn to read and write. This lead him to debating in prison. This debating eventually led him out of prison, and on his new journey of life. Not only did he continue to debate and learn when he got out of prison, but this led him to learn more about his culture and Negro history. As he learned more and more, he established that Negroes were notably failing to get the freedom they deserved, especially from whites. Learning this, he decided to write an autobiography, in favor of Negroes. …show more content…

He first off uses a hyperbole to show how much Negroes don’t know about their own culture because of the white people. He says, “...the white man had completely erased the slaves’ past…” (Malcolm X, 3). It is important that these Negro people knew where they were in society and know how bad they were treated being enslaved. Malcolm X, being educated, tells them about it, and in this particular quote he uses an extreme exaggeration to show how bad it actually was. However, not only did he use this hyperbole show where they were in society, he also used a simile. He says, “...the millions of black men in America have been like sheep in a den of wolves” (Malcolm X, 4). This shows that Negroes, have been tortured and mistreated by white people very badly. The Negroes are compared to sheep being innocent, and the whites are being compared to wolves being vicious. By comparing these things, he emphasizes that whites are evil to Negroes, in which he also explains through a metaphor. He says, “The white man is the devil” (Malcolm X, 4).
