Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a wondrous book with many different characters that have their own unique traits. One of the characters in this book is Cassie, who is a nine-year-old girl living in Mississippi during the Great Depression. The trait that best describes her is being courageous. The denotative definition of courageous is. “Not deterred by danger or pain; brave.”

The students at some point have to show courage, if someone is being bullied, mistreated, or just sad. Courage is showing bravery and just doing what's right. In Mildred Taylorś book, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry. Stacey has to show courage, when he took the blame for T.J. cheating.. Stacey also had to show courage by, coming up with the idea of digging the trench, and Stacey got everyone involved with the idea of digging the trench, for the bus to fall in.

Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. In the book, Mildred Taylor writes many times when a character has to show courage. Stacey had to show courage when Papa was gone and he had to step up and be the man of the house, when, the night men attacked them, and when he had to help TJ get home and help the Avery’s.

She tries to make them believe that the books they received are “wonderful”. In actuality, the books are dirty and old. Little Man is known as a clean and organized person so he was not happy about getting a book in that shape. Furthermore, he opens the book and sees a list. This list shows the year that the book was given, the condition of the book and the race of the student that the book was given to. For example, in 1992, it said the condition was “new” and the race of the student was “white”. In 1933, the condition of the book was “very poor” and the race of the student was “nigra”. This infuriated Little Man. He throws the book on the floor and stomps on it. In turn, Miss Crocker takes him outside and gives him a whooping.

Courage is not always easy but could sometimes cause sacrifice. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. For my courageous character i choose the very important Stacy Logan. He is a segregated 12 year old boy in 7th grade with very brown hair and wide eyes that you can tell from anywhere. Stacy's makes very courageous and strong choices made him look like her cared for what he wanted and cared for his family.. He has done many courageous acts like stopping the bus from getting himself and his brothers and sisters including his really good friend from a very long friendship T.J., sometimes Stacey and T.J. have their ups and downs the one incident Stacey has to get on to T.J. for cheating on the big exam in their class

In life, being courageous means you have to stand up for your convictions and beliefs. In the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey consistently shows gigantic amounts of courage throughout the book. Stacey shows how courageous he was when he chased after T.J. to find the truth for his mom; when he confronted T.J. about his lying and tells the kids he wouldn’t stand for it; and when Stacey stays behind during the big explosion of violence at the end of the book. The events all demonstrate Stacey’s courage and willingness to help his family.

The challenges the speaker faces in the poem “Mother to Son” is when she says she is bare. With her saying this she means that she has no money or food. Another set of evidence that she has been going through challenges is that she has said it has had tacks in it. This means that she has had to go through some painful times that were really hard. Finally the last thing that the mother has had to go through is she said there has been splinters. This means that she has gone through some things that have stuck with her and she can't forget. The mother has gotten through these times by keeping going

Time and time again, people in and out of fiction have told you things that aren’t exactly true, but you both knew it was a lie (a rather sarcastic one at that). This is an example of what is called irony— what results when the actual outcome differs from what was expected— and irony is something that is heavily featured in Mildred Taylor’s historical fiction novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. In this book Mildred Taylor’s use of irony helps to accomplish three main tasks: characterize the monochromatic cast of characters, elucidate and illuminate the main theme of the passage, creating, setting, and modifying the ambiance and mood of the various chapters.

The route the children are designated to take, in addition, is specified in the writing to inspire in the audience fear. The segregated school for Black students is located within a mass of railroad tracks, warehouses, and red-light districts, all notably dangerous locations for children to be in. By specifically mentioning that Ellison had “forbidden words” added to his vocabulary, he implies that he had interacted with the many unsavory individuals in the area to the extent of learning immoral materials or skills (Ellison 4433). This emotional appeal enforces the idea that impressionable children are innocent and that their actions were forced upon them by the adults in control. It also appeals to the parental instinct to protect children and preserve their future. By being forced to maintain continuous exposure to dangerous environments and professions of ambiguous morality, the Black children are victims of tarnishing and possible injury by the White authority purposefully segregating the children to hazardous areas. The strategy in specifying the unfortunate circumstances the African American children are facing is for causing the White adults to appear as villains who impose professionals of socially denigrated on innocent children. In contrast, Ellison, despite not doing anything particularly virtuous, is designated the ‘hero’ to be cheered for along with all his associates and peers, who are also victims.

The novel ‘Roll of Thunder, hear my Cry’ conveys the message that there were indeed white people that did want the two races to live equally. Jeremy is a clear example of a character conveying this message.

It takes a big act of courage in a lot of sticky situations. In “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry” by Mildred D. Taylor I believe Stacey Logan followed his convictions the most out of any character when he made the plan to stop the bus, helped TJ after he was beat up and framed by the Simms boys, and taking the blame when TJ cheated on the test. Stacey was a 12-year-old boy who is loyal throughout the entire book. Stacey knew that there would be many consequences for the things he did.

In another instance, a group of "po' white trash children" confront Momma at her store, taunting her. As Renee Barlow notes, "They were represented as clownish, dirty, and rather silly. On the other hand, Mama simply stood like a rock and sang the Gospel. Her beauty of soul versus their disgusting antics creates a powerful scene about the nature of the oppressed and the oppressor. Marguerite, meanwhile, lies crouched behind the screen in agony at the inability of her class to command respect simply because of their color. Then, as the scene progresses, she understands that in spite of the disparity of power between the po'white trash and Mama, Mama has won" (Barlow, 861927397.html). She has won not because she has outsmarted the white youths or even -- strictly speaking -- overpowered them, but because she has outclassed them.

In the first chapter of the novel, we are exposed to our first injustice. New textbooks for Cassie’s classroom! How exciting! But to Cassie and Little Man’s dismay, they are in fact, hand-me-downs from the white children’s school that were in too poor a condition for them to use. Cassie opens the front cover of her textbook to find racist slang written it it by the school district. This infuriates Little Man, who throws the textbook down and stomps on it. An apprehensive Cassie tries to explain to her teacher, Miss Crocker, why Little Man is reacting so strongly to the book, but upon presenting the offensive name written in it to her,

Little Man, Cassie, and T.J. learned multiple life lessons in the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by experiencing and suffering. On Little Man’s first day of school, Cassie’s first time to the market, and when T.J. gets in more trouble than ever before, the characters learn important life lessons through their painful experiences.
