Did you ever done something that you regret it, I am sure that almost all of us done something that we regret almost every day. Man Ain’t you hungry the man asked the man gave them food if they light up the fire during the night of their furnace. The narrator says why You Reckon. The narrator goes place to place often, but no place is his permeant. Man Ain’t you hungry page 255, Hughes, Langston this quote means that the two men are hungry after they can’t find money for food. They were trying to find some way to get money, but they had another idea of holding a citizen for ransom, but that did not go as planned, but the men find another way for food,
I believe that the theme of The Outsiders is that: “Not everybody is like what you think they are”. This is proven to be true because of these next three paragraphs show how.
Sometimes, things can be rough. In this fantastic book by S.E. Hinton- The Outsiders, the story starts off with a boy named Ponyboy. WHen his brother gets mad at him, he runs away, expecting to return the next morning. That is all turned upside down when his friend Johnny kills a boy. They run away to Windrixville together. Then, on their way back, they spot a burning church and run inside and save the children trapped in the back. Johnny is seriously injured by a piece of burning wood. Throughout the next chapters, the boys are preparing for the big fight against an enemy gang, the Socs. After the fight, which they win, Pony and his buddy Dallas WInston go and see JOhnny in the hospital one last time before he died. Dallas, who is overrun
Steinbeck wrote about many different characters who are full of dreams which sadly none of their dreams came true. Everyone has a big dream that would like to accomplish one day but sometimes , when we get lonely our dreams don’t come true. Through these characters John Steinbeck shows the effects about true loneliness.
Creon believed that he was arête because as he puts it, "...I have the throne, all royal power..." leading a reader to believe that he is arrogant as well as in belief that he is an excellent leader. Arête means excellence of any kind and that "excellence has Creon written all over it. Creon feels as though he was arête, or excellent, because he created laws and decrees in which challenged the gods, or caused hubris, and in turn saw no consequence for his actions until it was too late. Creon challenges the gods by refusing to bury Polynices, calling all of his advisors idiots, and by not listening to the warnings given to him. Creon gives an example of humiliation of advisors when he states, "Stop now- before what you're about to say enrages
In the book “I Beat The Odds” by Michael Oher, i was inspired by one important quote. On inspiring quote is on page 69 It states “”it's better to build boys than build men””. His mom is neglecting and he he read a quote from the founder of Chick-fil-A and he says that it's true and it's much easier to reattach the everything when they are young so that gives them hope. This quote is inspiring to me because my dad is trying to make me a man and not let me live my life as a normal 13 year old would and so that is why this quote is inspiring to me. I will let my kids be themselves when they get to the age to make their own decisions and i will teach them to be a boy not a man when they are at 9 years old. Also my kids if my kids were in that
Hi Carrie! I agree that the message of morals is largely apparent in this story, and this reminded me of a quote "Who is more wicked: he who kills evil, or he who protects them" (S. Jackson). I liked how you pointed out how the pointed out how Captian Torres' quote of killing not being easy. My question is, if Captain Torres knew that the barber was a rebel informat, why did he put himself in that vulnerable position? In the story the author points out that Captain Torres has ordered executions in the past, and pointed out how hard it is to do so. My take on the matter is that the Captain wants to be punished for what he's done and has given the right to judge him to the barber, someone who has personallly seen what he's done and stands on
This is the story of a girl who is kidnapped and the scenarios that happen can either keep her alive or kill her.
In Chance the Rapper’s song, Same Drugs, he reminisces about one of his past relationships that sadly has come to an end due to them growing apart and no longer sharing the same interests. Chance’s purpose was to express that he was heartbroken by this breakup and wishes that they hadn’t grown apart. He employs a sentimental tone in order to convey to his audience that he truly misses their relationship. Chance the Rapper achieves this sentimental tone through the use of repetition, allusions, and symbolism.
The author uses ethos to appeal to the readers through point of view since the author is a male and he is discussing characteristics of males. The author starts off with a connotation of the word manhood: “stupid, behavioural patterns that can produce unfortunate results such as violent crime, war, spitting and ice hockey” (page 940, second paragraph). This is significant because it links to some stereotypes related to men that the author may have experience or seen. Men are often seen as being more aggressive and violent than women. The narration of this essay is written in first person point of view which works hand in hand with the subjective description also being used and lets the readers see males through the author’s perspective. Connotation,
I like the quote "Expect to be called a stand patter, but don’t be a stand patter. Expect to be called a demagogue, but don’t be a demagogue" by Calvin Coolidge in the speech. It might have a totally different meaning to others; but to me, it means to be what people say we are. It is a common problem that govern most people in the world today. While chatting with my friends a few weeks ago, Karly, my best friend asked me "Temmy, am I smart?
More than once in every man’s life he has yearned for something that is out of his reach. Whether it be fashionable clothes, an elaborate home, a newer car, or a more desirable career, some things are unattainable. George Milton, one of the main characters
Granny is a lot like the mother in that she believes in education and she also wants the best for her grandchildren. Granny comes in when the family is in need of help to pay rent, buy food, and even provide another home when they want to get away from the father. The grandmother almost serves as a second mother for Mark and his siblings to look up to and take after.
While reading Go Ask Alice there were a few quotes that stood out to me. The first quote says “How is it possible for me to be so miserable and embarrassed and humiliated and beaten and sill function, still talk and smile and concentrate” (Sparks 2). Being that for years I’ve been battling depression, anxiety, and bulimia it’s insane to think that I’m still alive. I sometimes can’t even believe that I am an actual functioning human being. These disorders took over my life and it was hard to try and fight my way out of it and continue living a normal life.
