The Mangonel consists of a long wooden arm made from timber with a bucket and rope attached to the end. The ropes are made from twisted human hair and animal sinew. The arm is then pulled back which builds up the tension in the rope and the arm. Then the bucket would be loaded with the projectile/payload that would be launched. Upon release, the arm rotates at a high speed and throws the projectile at the target. The lever/arm rotates around the fulcrum (or the pivot point). This machine converts potential energy into kinetic energy. The Mangonel has the capability of firing projectiles up to 400 metres. This catapult is best suited for launching projectiles at lower angles to the horizontal, which was useful for destroying walls.
In response to the use of castles and fortresses, siege weapons were created. Siege weapons ranged from short range weapons such as the battering ram to longer range ones like the trebuchet or the ballista. The battering ram was usually a big shed with an armored roof and wheels to protect the men inside operating a thick beam with an iron head hung from the roof that was swung into enemy walls to bring them down. The siege tower, a wheeled tower filled with men that would be used to get over the walls, also saw its use during this time. The trebuchet was used for longer range, the missiles launched by the trebuchet ranged from using dead bodies of animals or people to spread disease, a primitive example of biological warfare, to using large boulders to take down fortress walls. In response
“How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen of the United states of America”. JROTC has prepared me to become a better citizen by teaching me how to use leadership skills and be able to cope with subordinates. It also has prepared me to be a better citizen by showing me what the 7 army values are and what they mean. Some of the army values are respect, honor, integrity, and personal courage. JROTC has showed me how to do things different from the way I thought things should be done and how to march and be able to keep a company and platoon together when marching. Since I know a lot about the JROTC I am able to help other people become better citizens like I was taught. I am also a better citizen because i have the discipline not to do certain things that I did before I took the JROTC class.

Hi Teagen! I agree with the idea that the expansion of suffrage to non-propertied white males in the 1820s and 1830s was an advancement in American political life. I found in the book that through the westward expansion, most of the new states in America allowed all white males to vote at the age of 21 (Faragher, 258). Also before 1800 only white males that owned property or were taxpayers could vote in most of the original thirteen states (Faragher, 257). This was important because it led to the presidential electors and governors to be elected by a direct vote of men from all classes, rather than by small groups of state legislators (Faragher, 258). I agree that this lead to delaying suffrage of white women and African Americans. This contradicts

From the beginning of humankind tools have been used for the use of survival and livelihood. One of the most useful but underrated tools ever invented is the tomahawk. It’s humble beginnings go back thousands of years to the days of wood and stone. The most underappreciated form of this tool is the pipe tomahawk. A history both complex and exciting, the pipe tomahawk and the DeQuindre tomahawk both hold great interest to share, such as design and bloodline.
Mina is the daughter of Uganda-born, parents of Indian descent. At the age of six, Mina, her family and other Asians were expelled from Uganda by dictator Idi Amin, who felt that Asians were getting disproportionately richer than the native people of Uganda. Before they left, Mina's father's best friend told them; Uganda is for black African's only, and for it, they must leave. (Only many years later Mina's father learned that his best African friend, risked his life, which he ultimately lost), and money, to get him and his family out safely from Uganda). When Mina's family arrived in the United States, they brought with them the feelings of hurt, injustice, loss, rejection, and betrayal. Mina's father transferred these feelings onto the black Americans of Mississippi

Catapults vary much in size and design. Often times, the procedure in siege battles was to build a catapult for the right situation; the strength of the catapult depended on its’ size and ammunition and how useful it was in the right situation. According to the Google Sites page “Physics of Catapults 101”, “Catapults were known for throwing a multitude of objects at the enemy.
