What I learned from Laura Bobnaks essay was the way we think in high school is extremely different from what we think when we are adults. In high school, it’s all about doing everything we can to get out of there whether its cheating or studying. It doesn’t matter because in high school no one like a tattle tale or a rat.

Within the past 50 years, there has been an increasing amount of women in the government. Whether these women hold powerful positions such as Secretary of State, or hold minor positions such as PTA President, a political revolution is brewing. The United States of America is lacking substantially with regards to females in office, in fact if one were to look statistically at the amount of women in the government, the United States is failing tremendously. Although the United States likes to claim that they are the land of opportunities, it seems as if the only ones reaping those benefits are cis white males. But, there are women who choose to break the glass ceiling and attempt to explore the opportunities that are in front of them, and one

Carmela D’Amico of Salon.com writes a piece entitled “Enough of the ‘US vs. Them’ binary; Why I’m writing in Bernie Sanders on Election Day” in reference to the presidential election of 2016. In her article D’Amico captures her audience of potential voters with her opinion of the candidates and the overall election itself. D’Amico states that she does not belong to a political party henceforth declaring herself an independent. While keeping a light-hearted tone, D’Amico is able to stress the importance of voting not for the satisfaction of one’s party, but to satisfy the needs of this country. D’Amico states this as her purpose for writing in Bernie Sanders on Election Day as choosing from “the lesser of two evils” only restricts the freedom that we as Americans were given.
Historians constantly discuss the establishment of communism in Eastern Europe following World War II, a major topic being the Soviet Union’s occupation of The German Democratic Republic (GDR). The governing of the GDR by the Socialist Unity Party (SED) is frequently analysed, particularly operations against any perceived resistance to the stability of a socialist state. Erica Riemann was one perceived enemy, serving over eight years as a political prisoner after drawing a bow on a picture of Josef Stalin when she was fourteen, and she provides oral testimony of her experiences nearly fifty years later (Molloy 2009). This essay argues that the main value of Riemann’s testimony is an insight into the lengths that the SED went to in order to
Maria Guadalupe Baldovinos was born October 18, 1996. To get started on her story I would have to you back to how her parents met to get a better understanding. Maria’s mother is name Dominga she is one of nine kids in a Mexican household and Antonio also coming from a household of nine. Her parents are humble people who have always worked hard throughout their lives to make a living. Dominga is short fair skin women whose mother never gave her the love that she deserved, same goes with Maria’s father it was difficult to give them the same attention and love to all their kids, so they always lacked love from parents. Only difference is Maria’s mother got some love from her father who has looked after her and guided her throughout. Dominga’s
Puerto-Rican American writer and poet Judith Ortiz Cofer describes the societal prejudices against Latina women in her autobiographical essay. Her aim is to enlighten others of the bigotry that Latina women are subjected to. Cofer uses exemplification to spur an emotional reaction and a fundamental understanding from her readers. Cofer begins her essay by captivating her audience with a detailed personal account that highlights a stereotype placed on Latinas. She explains a man who “broke into and Irish tenor’s rendition of ‘Maria’ from West Side Story,” as he saw her.
Born in Italy in 1364 but relocating to Paris, France a few years after, Christine de Pizan wrote her literary work in the French vernacular. She was on her way to becoming a skillful scholar as a child with a high intellectual interest and as a part of the royal court of Charles V, she had many learning opportunities, “Christine was exposed to a wide range of experiences that she apparently used to her full advantage” (Birk 17). Her most significant work was her involvement in the querelle des femmes (the women’s quarrel), in which she participated in a years long debate known as the Debate on the Romance of the Rose. Christine’s argument in the debate was an important benefactor in the advancement of women in the Middle Ages. With her literary contributions, such as the God of Love’s Letter,

Not only do Adéle and Reisz’s personalities deemed by society contrasts, why they create music and how they view it does as well. In order to care for her home, Adéle takes on other roles as well, but they are all diminutive compared to the actual professions. Performing these actions does not bring her joy, but knowing that it brightens her image and allows others to gaze in wonder as to how she manages to do all of it does. Adéle has her reasons when she “gaily consented to play for the others … She was keeping her music on account of the children, she said, because she and her husband both considered it a means of brightening the home and making it attractive” (31). Making other people happy pleases Adéle and playing piano just happens
Zoe, in Greek in short means life, (ζωή, ῆς, ἡ). Translated more thoroughly however, means life, both of physical (present) and of spiritual (particularly future) existence. I think this reflects Alex’s (Zoe’s) personality, especially the fact that she knew that her name had that meaning. This reflects her knowledge and intellectual interest in the things that identify her. She also chose the tortoise over the hare, reflecting her understanding of the importance of patience and intelligence. Or maybe she just likes tortoises more than hares. Her choice of sunsets over sunrises shows that she appreciates the beauty of the world going to sleep, or perhaps the goings
