Growing up Martin Luther King. Jr had a happy middle class life, but even with all of this he still noticed social problems. His father was a respected preacher, his mother was a college-educated musician, and his grandmother, who lived with them, was extremely fond of him. He was also close to his older sister and younger brother, who started college at fifteen.

Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most famous civil rights activists in the history of the United States. He gave several important speeches and promoted non-violent protests. His most famous speech was “I Have A Dream”, around a quarter of a million patrons, black and white, attended this empowering speech at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963. The reason his speech was vastly successful in the movement against segregation and injustice was because of its repetitiveness.

Martin Luther King, Jr. paved the way for the civil rights movement as he was unrelenting in his strive to eliminate segregation and the social system that upheld it. He fought for justice, freedom, and the equality of opportunity. He is famous for his use of civil disobedience to fight without fighting back, to accept the consequences of his defiances, and to use the initiatives of fellow citizens to act in opposition against the laws discriminating against people of color. King was an activist, but first, he was a pastor. He received a letter through the newspaper from other clergymen trying to discourage his efforts. Responding from a jail cell, King wrote a fifty paragraph letter on scraps of paper, justifying his cause and refuting their claims. In paragraphs fifteen to twenty-two, he specifically explains the effectiveness and necessity of his efforts. Martin Luther King, Jr. successfully justifies civil disobedience by utilizing logos developed through skillful syntax, and ethos built by thoughtful selection of detail.

Later, due to the events of the boycott, Martin Luther King Jr. emerged and was the movement’s “most effective leader” (Clayborne Carson). He is known for his nonviolent tactics and his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. Martin Luther King Jr. was also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and later became the president of the SCLC in 1957 following the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Martin Luther King Jr had a lot of accomplishments in his life. One of his biggest accomplishment was that everyone should have equal rights no matter what color their skin is. Martin Luther King Jr was the youngest man to win the Nobel prize. He was also named time magazine in 1964. King also gave over 2,500 speeches, wrote five books and dozens of articles.

One of the many influential people in American History was Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was a pastor in the Baptist faith, but he also was a leader in the advancement of colored people. During Dr. King’s time, segregation was at an all time high throughout the nation. But Dr. King, didn’t believe in violent protest, instead he insisted non-violent protest was the way to go. The civil rights movement was a hope to secure equal rights for African Americans and allowed them the same privileges as other U.S citizens. He believed that nonviolence was the only way for people to accept civil rights. King’s way of persuading people was with marches and large gatherings. Therefore, for my legal biography project I was determined to do my project on MLK (Martin Luther King).

He not only participated but led many of the acts to push equal rights such as the bus boycott, antisegregation campaigns, the March on Washington, and civil rights rallies throughout the United States. Due to his strenuous work for equal rights, King Jr. was one of the major reasons for the passing of the Civil Rights Bill in 1964 (Bennett). Martin Luther King Jr.’s hard-working, dedicated personality is one of the predominant reasons that there are civil rights in the United States; if it

brought together the country to fight for one cause. It was December 1st, 1955 and a NAACP Secretary named Rosa Parks was asked to give up her seat to a white passenger on the bus, she refused to and got arrested for it. Dr. King was the spokesman and leader for the bus boycott that was a boycott of the buses in Montgomery after the Rosa Parks incident. As a result the busses were unsegregated which upset Southerners so much that they bombed Dr. King’s home, luckily he wasn’t there and nobody got hurt (History.com). Dr. King moved to Atlanta with his family in 1960 and was still the president of SCLC (History.com). In 1960 Martin Luther King Jr began planning the March on Washington. The march on Washington was a big key point in the fight for equal rights. At the March in 1963 Dr. King gave a speech, which became very famous very quick, it was his “I Have a Dream” speech. Dr. King became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace prize in the year 1964. In 1965 there was a shooting in Selma where the SCLC and SNCC were having a voting registration (History.com). All of that goes to show that in the Civil Rights Era Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. brought the country together to fight for one cause.

"I have a dream..." Those are some of the most famous words in history from the 1960's. Martin Luther King Jr. was the guy that said those amazing words that would soon change America forever.. He said that speech on august 28, 1963 to a huge crowd at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. That speech was about civil rights for all people. In fact, he said it to a crowd that was in the Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man and this is his story.

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of many great civil rights activists that have fought for equal rights. Throughout the 1960’s he persevered through many things such as, “On March 7, 1965, a civil rights march, planned from Selma to Alabama's capitol in Montgomery, turned violent as police with nightsticks and tear gas met the demonstrators as they tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge. King was not in the march, however the attack was televised showing horrifying images of marchers being bloodied and severely injured. Seventeen demonstrators were hospitalized leading to the naming the event "Bloody Sunday." Everyone, young or old, gay or straight, women or man, everyone should get equal rights and this man shows why and how we can do it.

Martin Luther King Jr. is revered as a symbol of peace and understanding. He is humble as he is true to himself. We recognized him as someone who can overcome any obstacles that stand in his way. A leader who is fully capable of evaluating justice and inequality. These are only some of the characteristics that describe Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his work to enhancing the quality of life for his fellow people and open the rest of america’s eyes of the promise of African-Americans. This man has shed blood in the name of peace and equality. It all began with the amount of civil unrest MLK encountered in Atlanta, Georgia, where segregation and Jim Crow Laws were a daily reality for African-Americans.
