Marguerite Annie Johnson Aka: Maya Angelou is a poet an Author and a Civil Rights Activist. Maya Angelou is poet and award - winning author and she is also a well-known Author mostly for the memoir of “I know why the caged bird sings” and her numerous poetry and essay collections. Maya Angelou was born on April 4th, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, as a writer she was well- known for her many known books. She was one of the best African American writers for women. Maya received several honors throughout her career. She died on May 28, 2014. Maya Angelou was one of the best successors in the world mostly known as an author, actress, screenwriter, dancer and poet. Maya had a difficult childhood. Her parents split up when she was still young, and her and her older brother Bailey, were sent to live with their grandmother, Anne Henderson, in Stamps, Arkansas. During the years she lived there she was very much discriminated in Arkansas . At age 7 she had very difficult times. During a visit with her mother she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend and this event ended up in pretty bad situation because of this her uncles had to kill her mother’s boyfriend. After dealing with health problems Maya passed away on May 28, 2014, in North Carolina.
