How social media affects people
Nowadays, many people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so on. Since the Internet has rapidly propagated, social media has progressed rapidly. The widespread use of mobile devices to access the internet gradually transformed the nature of our social interactions. Most people use smart phones, iPhones or mobile internet devices to easily access social network. It helps us contact friends, family, and other people even if they live far away. Social media has many advantages; but also, it can be abused in moments by young children if we are not careful, because they can easily access social media. We need to understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.
In discussions of social media, one controversial issue has been social media is good to use for children. On the one hand, some people argue social media is okay for children to use freely. On the other hand, other people even contend social media is for children to use with regulation. My own view is that we should understand and regulating the use of social media by young children, because overusing social media can create strong addictions, develop mental or physical disorders, and waste our time. First of all, social media, such as Facebook, are very addictive. Especially, people who are lonely can become easily addicts. Human is social animal, so they want to make relationship with others. Social media has been a topic of debate for years. Some people are strongly against any use of it while others like the instant connection it provides. A major concern over social media is the lasting effects it has on teenagers. Social media can affect teenagers through many ways including things like their self-esteem. Cyberbullying is a raging topic of discussion centered around teens social media use. It can also effect their people skills and create a lack of community involvement. Some parents think that watching what their children do on social media is an invasion of privacy but is your concern for their privacy greater than your concern for their safety? Social media poses a great danger to today’s children. It can affect many aspects of their lives.
Social media has many negative effects linked to teenagers today. Research has shown that social media has a harsh impact on the mental health of its users. This research suggests that social media can cause depression. Highly idealized representations of peers on social media may create elicit feelings of envy and the belief that others lead happier, more successful lives (Chowdhry). Although depression cannot be linked to one specific cause, there are many different factors that can contribute to it. With this being said, individuals will compare themselves negatively to others on social media because they believe other individuals sharing content are living better lives than they are. This will result in people feeling bad about themselves. Another impact social media has on mental health is that it is addictive. Although social media addiction is not a formal clinical diagnoses, it is reasonable to say that many people spend a lot of time on social media. Researchers have suggested that the excessive use of online social networking is particularly problematic to young people. It is claimed that those people who are addicted experience symptoms similar to those who suffer from addictions to substances and other behaviours. As stated above, although social media addiction is not classified as a formal clinical diagnoses, it has been compared to those who suffer from far more serious addictions. In addition to other impacts social media has on mental health, it can severely impact the self-esteem of those who are on social media platforms. Social media can have a negative effect on the
Theres two problems children are facing and parents included. Children shouldn’t be allowed to be on social media at the age of six between fourteen. They shouldn’t be allowed to because young children don’t have the age because they won’t be able to know what’s going on social media. I think it’s a bad idea letting your children
86 percent of kids use social media. Teens are using social media to keep in touch with friends but, teens with bad backgrounds may be talking to strangers. Parents don’t really know if they should allow kids on social media. Is social media a safe environment for kids?
In the article “Teenage Social Media Butterflies May Not Be Such a Bad Idea”, the author, Melissa Healy, writes about how parents should not be overly concerned about their children using social media websites. Also, the author touches base on how social media could be an exceptional thing. Social media should not be a concern for parents and should not be a dangerous thing. American children ages eight to eighteen are said to spend more than seven and a half hours using social media or the internet (Healy). However, psychologist say that the kids who spend most of their time using social media are psychologically the healthiest (Healy).
First, social media, especially Facebook, are very addicted. People would say drug or alcohol is more addicted than social media or social media addiction is not big problems, but it is not true. There is a report of the social media addiction by University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. A team from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business recently conducted an experiment involving 205 people in Wurtzburg, Germany to analyze the addictive properties of social media and other devices. Participants in the week-long study were polled via BlackBerry smartphones seven times per day and asked to report when they experienced a desire within the past 30
Nobody is immune to the harmful side effects social media including privacy invasion, cyberbullying, depression, anxiety, and lack of empathy. The negative risks involved with the extensive use of social media by youngsters are significantly serious than the few positive things they get out of using social media. Youngsters should be educated about negative consequences of social media so that they won’t get trapped by social media. Appropriate use of social media by youngsters is required to minimize the negative
Social media has led many benefits. For example, people are able to spread awareness about mental illness, connect with support groups, and expand searches for research participants. However, users of social media may unknowingly spread false information. Social media also has other drawbacks, which include decreases in-person interactions and increases in cyber-bullying. Children are now have the availability to access a vast amount of information through social media, but the responsibly of having a social media account may be beyond their developmental age abilities. Therefore, the vast increase and interest in social media may lead to researchers investigating human behaviors while noting differences among groups. Additionally, researchers will likely investigate how to assist parents in maintaining appropriate boundaries with social media while remaining safe. From a prevention viewpoint, educating parents and teachers about talking to children about proper use of the internet may be a practical
Televised news has the ability to influence the lives of the human population. News broadcasts have an impact on communities in a way other media outlets have been unable to accomplish. Major events have been captured by television, which affects individuals, and multiple aspects of society.
Many people may think that social media has a negative effect on society because it can destroy the reputation of an individual. However, this can be prevented if people used social media cautiously and wisely. I believe that minors should use social media as a way to connect more while sharing with others socially. Social media is great for discovering our world, and ourselves. It’s a good way to keep up with new trends and be well informed of what is happening around the world.
Social media has negative effects on adolescents who overuse it. It is important as parents or guardians to remember to monitor how much kids use social media and when they use it. Technology has had so many advances in the past decade. People are constantly using the internet for numerous things. Every person uses the internet and technology at least once in their lifetime. Since technology is constantly growing and advancing people find themselves using it more and more for everyday life. Now, adults are usually the ones using the internet, but young kids have found themselves using it more frequently as well. Whether it be a child who is using a phone for games, or a teenager who is using a phone for social media, the internet is always being used. Young kids also find themselves using the internet for several things including social media or texting. With young people using social media there can be a positive side, a negative side, and even changes in ones mind. Young people feed into social media and with this comes cyberbullying, insecurities, distraction, and no privacy.
Media is where people today get most of their information. Children learn most of their gender rules through the television they watch. Media is a reflection of the society we live in. Advertising is a form of media. Since advertising is meant to appeal to society, it is a direct reflection of society.
Technology is a wonderful and ever advancing science that has now created another host of problems for parents in this day and time. Internet and other data usage is often a source of conflict for teens and their parents. This leaves the parents with a choice to determine what level of restriction and monitoring that they feel is necessary for their children. The design of social media accounts and the internet are drawing more and more children in each day thus leading to more
