We infiltrated the thenar crease area with 1% Xylocaine, and once adequate anesthesia had been achieved, we exsanguinated the hand and forearm with an Esmarch bandage. We then created a longitudinal incision just at the ulnar aspect of the thenar crease and carried the dissection down through the subcutaneous tissue. We identified the transverse carpal ligament and incised this
My career that I am researching for my junior project is Medical Coding and Billing. Medical Coding and Billing are two different jobs. Medical Coding is when a patient has any medical procedure or exam such as going to the doctor for the stomach virus or even going to the hospital for a broken bone. They work with the insurance companies by putting a specific number into the computer. There’s CPT Codes which stands for Current Procedural Terminology which is “ Codes to better understand the services their doctor provided, to double check their bills or negotiate lower pricing for their healthcare services. (About Health, 2014).”
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Medical Coding and Billing field is growing faster than any other field (Medical Billing & Coding Careers). The reason for this is that the more doctors’ offices open up, the more the need for medical billers and coders. As of today there are over 8000 codes being used to describe every procedure you can imagine (Sloviter, Sept-Oct 2009). Now think about being a doctor. It would be really hard for a doctor take care of his/her patients and keep track of all those codes. The field of medical coders and billers has a pay range of $8 to $10 per hour to start. However, that is also based on experience. The more experience, the more the pay. Considering that being the pay for full-time, plus any benefits such as vacation, health packages, and retirement packages – it may not seem like

Discuss the general differences between facility and non-facility rates. Discuss the MS-DRG system for hospital inpatient services. Include in your discussion the history of the MS-DRG system and the need for the updated system. There are two types of bills used in healthcare. Which type of bill is used for physician services? Which type of bill is used for hospital services? (Hint: your book is incorrect.)
In the field of Medical Administrative Assistant, there is a multitude of career choices to branch off into. Of these many fields, the three that I choose to discuss are Medical Billing, Medical Coding and Medical Assistant. All three careers are of high demand in the medical industry and each requires the need of basic classes, with a couple of varied courses, depending on the field. Basic requirements for all include a high school diploma or GED. Most require an Associates degree, consisting of specific major courses and general liberal arts courses. Additionally, these professions can continue to advance their careers by obtaining a higher degree or attaining alternate types of specific
Like a regular business entity, healthcare facilities need continuous inflow of funds to continue existing. However, billing complexity in the health care industry is unlike all other industries. The biggest difference of healthcare from other businesses is the source of payment for services rendered: the majority of which is from a third party with pre-determined rates and strict prerequisites. Foundational to these prerequisites is the accuracy of medical coding. An interview with a coder provided fresh understanding of the coding profession. And a look into the private and government payers and insurers’ roles brings better
Medical billing and coding is a career that involves the process of submitting and following up on medical claims with health insurance companies in order to receive a payment for the services of a healthcare provider. I think this job involves a lot of technology use and will take patience having to deal with all the different kinds of people and ethnicities. From what I’ve seen and what others have, a medical biller is someone who files all the medical stuff at the front desk or office in a medical facility. When you think of this career, you think of someone who works at a desk all day. Thats not all they do though.
Great post, there are so many important things that come along with learning medical billing and coding. I'm getting a little overwhelmed because there is so much material to cover. When I first started reading about the different coding edits and how to use them I was very confused because it mentioned that every code does not have a MUE or CCI edit. I did find a full list of edits on the CMS website so that could be helpful as well. Since CMS updates the national correct coding policy each January we have to be aware of the changes. The more practice that we get the better we'll understand them. As I was doing my research there were several websites that you could go to that will explain the code edits. This discussion was definitely a challenge
The field of study I am particularly interested in is Medical Office Administration. Based on my own research this job involves sitting for long periods of time, requires extensive knowledge of computers and the ability of multitasking. The roles of this job include effectively managing an office. They work in a variety of fields ranging from a physician’s office to a rest home facility. There are particular skills needed to do well in this, which include being well-organized, good communication skills, and an understanding of medical terms. This job is more suitable to people who work well with computer technology. In addition, someone who is able to pay attention to details would succeed in this field. I am interested in this field based on the heavy use with computers and the fact that there is a variety of job options out there. In the Medical Office Administration field, these types of jobs will be in higher demand as the population continues to grow.
