Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was one of ten children growing up. Michael and his siblings grew up in a very strict home. He had many conflicts with his father, who was physically and emotionally abusive. Michael’s music career began with the formation of The Jackson 5 in 1963, when he joined his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine in their already booming musical group. This was the start of Michael’s singing career. He was only five years old at this time, and went solo in 1971 at the young age of thirteen (Internet Movie Database). He later said that it was a huge mistake that he regrets doing. A year later, Michael was charged with “seven counts of molestation and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent” to a 13 year old male child. Michael was recorded holding hands and making plans to share a bed with the boy (Internet Movie Database). Throughout his life, Michael also struggled with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, which means that he viewed himself and his body in a defected and morphed way. Michael may have developed this disorder because he was diagnosed with vitiligo, which is a loss of pigmentation in the skin. Michael died on June 25th, 2009 of drug-induced cardiac arrest at the age of 50 (Merkin, 2009). Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV, Axis I deals with Clinical Syndromes. Michal Jackson was diagnosed with Panic Disorder, Body Dimorphic Disorder and Depression. Axis II is called “Developmental Disorders and Personality Disorders.” This axis is relevant to developmental and personality disorders, which, in my opinion, do not apply to Jackson. Dealing with physical conditions is Axis III, which he did not suffer from either. Severity of Psychosocial Stressors, Axis IV, is where you explain and rate the events in a person’s life to cause the disorders listed in Axis I and Axis II. These events for Michael were abuse as a child (severe), the death of his brother at a young age (moderate), the loss of childhood because of his singing
