Michael Jordan’s Second Return to the NBA Essay

One of the reasons people fell in love with Michael Jordan, aside from his skills, was his friendliness and openness. He would never boast of achievements nor put anyone down because they lacked skills. If anything, Jordan was hard on them in order to improve their skills and knowledge of the game so that they can outperform their past selves. He didn’t feel any entitlement to his superiority. He just worked extremely hard to achieve what he did.

On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced that he would be playing basketball again. He ended his short baseball career and rejoined the Bulls near the end of the 1994-1995 regular season, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Michael Jordan is remembered for single-handedly globalizing basketball and giving people a reason to believe that all things are possible. Jordan’s charisma as a basketball player made him an undeniable leader that the NBA may never see again. Though LeBron James may be considered the greatest NBA basketball player currently active, he should not yet be considered in the conversation for the greatest player of all time. That title simply belongs to the legendary Michael Jordan. Throughout his career, he dominated on the court with his unstoppable defensive and offensive strategies along with the leadership and determination he provided for his teammates. According to NBA.com, “Michael Jordan was a natural when it came to playing for the Chicago Bulls and he was able to excel and adapt while playing multiple positions on the court.” Whether he was playing center, forward, or even a guard in a game he always shined on the court. Not only did Jordan’s body mature, but so did his mindset of the game. In my opinion, Jordan had a high amount of skill and was talented on the court, because he made the right choice to stay in college, mature over four years, and finish his education. Most professional athletes did not finish their college education, because they wanted to test their skills in a professional sport league like the NBA, NFL, or the NHL. In my opinion, many athletes should do what Michael Jordan did and put their education before professional career, so they can develop, grow, and still succeed as a college athlete

Michael Jeffrey Jordan is known by many people as the best basketball player ever to play the game. Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, helping them obtained six championship titles in eight years. Now remembered for being the best and the most popular athlete in the sports world. He had a great influence on the people. "Jordan was just another great legend" (Stein 2). Being a role model on and off the court Jordan showed his abilities to play the game and his kindness towards other people, especially those who admired him the most. "His widespread appeal to fans has helped keep basketball one of the world's most popular spectator sports" (Stein 1).

On January 4th, 2001, Michael reached the 30,000, point club that made him number 4 on the all-time scoring list (Biography). September, of 2001, Jordan stepped back onto the court and played for the Washington Wizard. Michael was so generous that he donated his whole 2001-2002 salary to 9-11 relief efforts (Top). Michael’s last and final game for good was April 16, 2003, where they played the Philadelphia 76ers, Michael scored 15 points and got a standing ovation

Everyone has his or her opinion on who is the best player in National Basketball Association history. Some will say LeBron James but ninety percent of people will say Michael Jordan. Michael is known for playing basketball for the Chicago Bulls, but he has also contribute to more than just basketball. He is also an Olympic athlete, businessperson, and an actor. “Jordan is one of the most popular and widely known sports icons throughout the world” (Kellner 1). Many do not know but Michael has a short baseball career. Jordan has a very interesting life; he inspired many young child to follow his example in basketball; also being an entrepreneur producing a clothing and shoe line and an inspirational leader.

In 1995, Michael decided to go back to basketball with the number “45” because the number “23” was already retired by the Bulls. Michael led the Bulls to another three national championship and once again be crowned MVP each time. On january 13th 1999 he didn’t have the drive in sports and also didn’t have nothing to prove or accomplish, so Michael retired for the second time. Despite his retirement, Michael did let go to his competitive urges so through 2001-2002 he was an executive for the Washington Wizards. For a third time Michael Jordan enter the basketball court again. His basketball skills were noticeable diminished but still scored in an average of twenty points every game. He even participated in the 13th all-star game. On april 16th 2003 it was Michael played his last game in the NBA against the Philadelphia 76ers. Michael forever retired for the third time after the 2003 season. Michael Jordan had left a legacy on the basketball court that was simply legendary because he ended his career with 32, 292 points as the third overall leading scorer. The season after in 1996, Michael Jordan brought the championship rings back to the Chicago Bulls becoming one of the first players in the NBA to win a championship four times. He then repeated that win in 1997 and 1998 winning six championships in an arrow. In my opinion that is amazing, and an amazing way to apologize his fans, especially returning from a retirement, playing a completely different sport and coming back like he’s been practicing and playing basketball ever since. After the return, Michael Jordan was an accessible star.

In March of 1995, he returned to the NBA and had a shaky first season back as a Washington Wizard. In January of 1999, Jordan announced his final retirement from the NBA. Compared to other All-Time NBA greats, Michael Jordan led in points per game. Throughout his career, he averaged 30.1 points per game. In 1998, the average score in a single NBA game was 95.6 points. That means if Michael Jordan scored his average every game, he would score just under a third of all his teams points. Just because Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50.4 points in his third season, and then never did it again doesn’t prove that he is the best.

Michael Jordan made every off-season his platform for proving all of his critics wrong. They said he could score but couldn’t play defense. Following his Off-Season he came back and won defensive player of the year. They said he could play defense but couldn’t win. Again after his Off-Seasons he came back and won 6 NBA Championships. Every year Jordan added and revolutionized his game. He used the Off-Season to turn his weaknesses into strengths. He was never satisfied!
