Love is like the bully on the elementary school playground. After reading the work of William Shakespeare some may agree with the statement that love creates most of the conflict in Midsummer’s Night Dream. When reading the play Midsummer’s Night Dream by Shakespeare, love makes friendships break, it makes Titania fall in love with someone who has a repulsive appearance and it makes people run away from home. Love makes people run-away from home. The play reads “Take comfort: he no more shall see my face. Lysander and myself will fly this place. Before the time I did Lysander see, seemed Athens as a paradise to me. O, then, what graces in my love do dwell, that he hath turned a heaven unto a hell! (1.1.207-212)” . A critic may argue that control is the bully because Egeus is controlling Hermia to marry Demetrius. That is true but, the only reason he is forcing her to marry Demetrius because Demetrius has a very big crush on Hermia and Egeus likes him too. They may also argue that control is the bully because Oberon has control over Titania. He does not control her, she is in autopilot mode. Plus, he is doing this because he loves her and he clearly states that he cannot go through with this any longer. All in all, it is clear that love is the bully in spite that it is attacked by the claim that control is, even though the form of control is in only about 3 acts. In conclusion, Midsummer’s Night Dream has made it very clear that love is a bully and it creates most if the problem in Midsummer’s Night Dream. As the above sentiment states, William Shakespeare has made a new way for love to “bully” the characters in the play like when love made a friendship’s break, when it made people fall in love with someone they dislike and when it made someone fall in love with a “beast”. All in all, love is a bully and William Shakespeare has made that very clear in his play Midsummer’s Night
