Dreams are just dreams until you make them come to life. How far would you go to live your dreams? Would you follow orders from the media? I have witnessed how the media has shaped the behavior of my classmates, neighbors, and friends. I have witnessed how the media promotes twerking, beauty, sex, drugs, and extreme thinness. I have witnessed how the media declares what is feminine and masculine. I have witnessed how the media has made us ignorant. But most importantly, I have witnessed how the media has created the person I am today. We learn habits and behavior from the media that surrounds us. Miley decided to be explicit in order to clarify the message that she is a mature individual; an individual that is now grown up and mature enough to make her own decisions. However, her actions demonstrate the complete opposite. She was the talk of the media when she was fined for twerking on a Mexican flag during one of her concerts in Mexico. Hundreds of girls were present when she tortured the flag. This can only say that it is perfectly normal to express in such a way. The message is that women have to act sexy. Miley’s only goal in the media is to gain attention, acknowledgement, and respect. These girls want to be liberated themselves, so they look up to Miley for guidance. In addition, girls are like Miley in a sense that they ignore insults or negativity towards them (mostly from their family.) Miley’s fans feel that they can express themselves in such a way. This reinforces the idea that women should look attractive if they want to be acknowledged. These and many more negative messages lead to depression within women if they don’t act as the female figure that the world expects. This learned behavior is passed from generation to generation, and makes those behaviors become normal
