Modern American Liberalism Supporting Welfare Programs Modern Liberalism is the dominant version of liberalism in America today. This philosophy strongly endorses public spending on programs such as education, health care, and welfare. Some of these programs are important for the American people today, but welfare and welfare fraud is a concern for all of us. Americans blame government handouts for persistent poverty in the United States more than any other single factor. The taxpayers are forced to give the government money, and then they are allowed to start handing money over to other citizens for free which has been harmful to our country. The intent of the general welfare clause written in the U.S. Constitution does not mean giving money to the citizens of our country, and those who may be in our country illegally, to continue receiving benefits as the way of supporting themselves and their families. Our current welfare state is based on liberal ideology. It is time to monitor the welfare systems so we can prevent fraudulent funding for people who are abusing the programs. We must first understand the difference between a liberal and conservative beliefs which tend to shape our country today.
