I’m sitting in my room, and suddenly I hear a knock at my door, and suddenly another one, I signal Ivan to go to the door and greet whoever is at the door. As Ivan opens the door, I hear a man state his name and business, but one thing stands out, the man at the door is the marvelous hunter, Sanger Rainsford. A smile spreads across my face as I ecstatically run down the stairs to meet the victim of my next hunt. I introduce myself as General Zaroff, and explain that Ivan is deaf, and slightly dumb. I also tell him that if he wants anything he can just ask, I explain that I was about to have my dinner when he had come, I tell him to go get some clothes from my room, he then runs up the stairs. I then went to my dining room, sat down and started …show more content…
Not even an hour passes before we hear something, the cry of a hound, not a bark or a howl, a cry of death. I follow the noise to a Burmese tiger pit with one of our hounds impaled in it. I again call out to Rainsford, telling him that he has claimed the life of one of our best hounds. I then turn around and head inside for the night, knowing the woods is no longer safe. At daybreak, me and Ivan do the same plan, gather the hounds and search for Rainsford. But instead of letting the dogs roam we had contained them on a leash, just in case of any more tiger pits. We were walking for not that long when Ivan stepped over a tripwire that had launched Rainsford’s hunting knife into Ivan, that slayed him instantly. “Replacing Ivan will be a challenge,” I think as I approach the end of the trail. I stand over the sea, confused on why Rainsford would jump into the sea, rather than face me. So I head back to my estate, disappointed that Rainsford had taken his own life, rather than facing me head on. I open my doors, and head to my dining hall, making dinner for myself. After my dinner I decide to go to my quarters and sleep off the night. But as I reached my quarters and flicked on the lights is when I saw him. Rainsford had been waiting for me, he then challenged me to a battle. That is the last we heard from General
“The name is Sanger Rainsford. I was held captive by your father until I beat him at his own game. I’ve been stuck here ever since.” said Rainsford.
Rainsford and Whitney were on a yacht heading to a land where they were planning to hunt jaguars but as night was among the boat, Rainsford heard gunshots and stood on the railing to try and see what was going on. The pipe Rainsford had fell as he stood on the railing and in attempt to catch it he fell into the water. At this point I foreshadowed he would swim to an island which he did. When arriving on the island, Rainsford being exhausted from his long swim took his rest. When he awoke, he began to search the island and he found a mansion. Rainsford was greeted by Ivan and General Zaroff at this mansion and although they seemed kind, Rainsford soon found out their actions were ones of murderers. Zaroff was an exemplemary hunter but he became
While Rainsford tries to get comfortable with the place of Zaroff . He expresses about his feelings and hunting experiences. The General explains that “hunting was beginning to bore him,” and
The general stops and brings out a horn and blows it to call his servant and his attack dogs. Now Rainsford is being chased by the General with his servant and attack dogs. Rainsford has to think fast and uses is hunter instincts even more to get away.
Rainsford hopped down and decided to try something different. He got to work on building a contraption. He hid in a log about one hundred yards away as The General came walking up. As The General stared intently at the ground he didn’t notice the trap Rainsford had set for him. The trap was triggered, but The General noticed and jumped back. He was struck on the shoulder by the dead log instead of being knocked out or killed by it, and he laughed and mocked Rainsford, which again sent fear straight to Rainsford heart. He knew he had to do whatever it took to defend himself from The General. Rainsford ran for several hours until he made it to death swamp, where he set another trap. He dug a pit and put stakes in the bottom of it. He then wove a carpet of branches and leaves to set over the pit. Rainsford was then overjoyed when he heard the branches break, until he saw that it was not The General who had fallen in, but one of his dogs. Again The General mocked Rainsford, and Rainsford was terrified. Once again Rainsford ran and he set another trap, this time killing Ivan, The General’s servant. But, The General, with his pack of hounds,
(10). As General Zaroff makes it evident to the reader his passion for hunting, he sees nothing wrong with putting every he has into it—even if it means hunting humans. Though Rainsford is an accomplished hunter, he has never had to play the role of prey, thus the reader relays a sense of fear for Rainsford. When Rainsford saw that General Zaroff had come to the place where he was hiding, smiling to himself, and turning back; it was then that Rainsford realizes that “The general was playing with him! The general was saving him for another day’s sport!
Pride is the most dangerous game a person can involve themselves in. Being apart of this can led to a dreadful consequence. During the General’s hunt with Rainsford, he is immensely prideful. He remarks to Rainsford that, “You’ve done well… Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs… I’m going home to rest now. Thank you for a most amusing evening.” Three times General Zaroff could have captured Rainsford, but neglects to, due to his pridefulness. At the end, Rainsford meets the General in his room and challenges him to a fencing match for the bed. Rainsford defeats him and is able to sleep. If the General would have dealt with Rainsford in the beginning,
The next morning, Rainsford woke up in Zaroff’s excellent bed. With every wonder in the world thinking “how in the world did I get in General Zaroff’s bedroom.” As Rainsford starts to think what will happen if the General finds him in his bedroom, or what will he think he was doing in his room so he starts to run out of the room, as quick as possible like he’s never ran before. But before Rainsford can escape out of Zaroff’s luxurious bedroom he’s stopped by a random man named, who looks at Rainsford suspiciously so Rainsford begins to walk away quickly before Ivan who is doing his wake up call for the General notices that the General isn’t in his room. As soon as he looks in the room and looks back at Rainsford he’s nowhere to be found, as
Rainsford notice that Ivan may want to chop him up and watch him bleed. General Zaroff says ¨I’m afraid , like all his race, a bit of a savage.’” (Connell 23). He thinks that he might get killed from a savage. The sound Rainsford hears might trigger his past memory. He might remember “ It was a distant sound, faint and wavering, but he knew it. It was the baying of a pack of hounds “ (Connell 35). The protagonist might get mentally scared from this experience. Realization that he is going to die if he doesn't do something. General Zaroff said to scare the main character “‘But may I not venture to suggest that you will find my idea of the sport more diverting than Ivan’s?’¨ (Connell 30). He sees that he will get killed quicker if he decides that he doesn't go with the general. In summary Rainsford won't hunt anymore cause he has been put under too much
A man named Rainsford fell over board from a ship he was on. Rainsford meets a general named Zaroff. Both are hunters but Zaroff hunts more than animals, he hunts men as well for sport. He tells Rainsford that he will be hunting him. He is chased and builds obstacles for Zaroff and his dogs. He kills one of his dogs and builds a nife trap and also kills Ivan. Thinking he won Rainsford sneaks in his room and sleeps in his bed, meaning he has killed the general (Zaroff).
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Sanger Rainsford outsmarted General Zaroff during the crazy man-hunt. Rainsford managed to outsmart Zaroff when he hid in the tree from him. Then when he set a trap on Zaroff, and lastly when he swam around the island so he could go hide from Zaroff in the Chateau. These three things will explain how Sanger Rainsford was successful.
Zaroff leapt with an uncanny grace towards the back wall of the room. He reached up and grabbed the hilts of two mounted swords on the wall, then swiftly pulled them free from their holdings. With a terrifying and cunning smile, the general tossed Rainsford a sword, and taunted, “You are clearly a talented hunter, and a daring strategist, let us see who is the better man!” Rainsford only smiled in return and calmly caught the sword.
The conflict of this is that a retired general is hunting humans. He acted as they could not feel anything. As if they did not have a soul, heart, or family. General Zaroff was about to go on his last hunt of his life. rainsford had killed off 2 of Zaroff’s dogs and his helper, Ivan. After that, Zaroff went to his room. Rainsford finished off Zaroff
After a while he reaches an estate where he is greeted be two men, General Zaroff and his assistant Ivan. Rainsford is invited to dinner and the two men talk about hunting. It is then when he realizes that the General does not hunt animals, that he hunts men because he was bored of hunting the different animals available in the world.
As the two men eat Borscht, Rainsford then describes what his life has been before he meet Zaroff, but Zaroff hints that he has found a new animal to hunt. Rainsford was very confused not knowing it was him that was going to be hunted. Zaroff captures Rainsford and trains him for his experience for being hunted by Zaroff. When Rainsford escaped Zaroff he found him so quickly that Rainsford had to find a new place to survive. Zaroff has traps and hounds on that island that are chasing Rainsford and Ivan. Sadly the same hound that killed Ivan is now hunting Rainsford.
