The sun has risen and the game has begun. Rainsford grabs his weapons and run into the forest. He chose a small bush deep into the forest. Zaroff gets up and gets ready to play. He lets Rainsford know he's ready but shooting two shots into the air. Rainsford sat in that bush for five hours. He started to get itchy. He looked down at his arms and their wasn't a spot of skin on him. It was all red from bites. Rainsford started to talk to himself to reassure him he could do this. He almost screamed out but then he heard footsteps. His heart was pumping four times faster than ever before. He thought he was gonna have a heart attack. He saw Zaroff’s back start to turn. Rainsford was sweating and itching all over. Zaroff turned the corner, stood there, laughed, and turned back around. Rainsford waited ten minutes …show more content…
He started this morning waking up an looking at the ocean. He saw a yacht coming in and said “Poor souls, don’t make the same mistake I did. Rainsford turned around and looked down. He saw Zaroff up and ready by the castle. Rainsford got down from his tree and prepared a trap. He grabbed a bear trap while he was at the supply shed. He grabbed it out and set it underneath the tree and waited. He saw Ivan walk towards the tree beside him. He walked away. Ivan came over and looked over at Rainsfords tree but before he was able to say anything, he was dead on the floor with no foot. “Well done Mr. Rainsford, you killed my Ivan. Remember, Ivan is not the only thing I had.” Rainsford thought to himself and then remembered “dogs.” Rainsford moved trees to one beside him and waited till about two o’clock in the morning. He got down from the tree and walked over to the castle and found the dogs sleeping. Rainsford was their for one reason. One gone, two gone, three gone, four gone. Rainsford kept going until every dog was dead. But suddenly, Rainsford fell on the ground and dozed
It had been a week since Rainsford managed to kill the nefarious General Zaroff. The challenging part was almost over or so it seemed. There was not a clear way for Rainsford to escape. As days passed, Rainsford tried to escape. He tried making a boat from driftwood that he found, he tried swimming, he even tried sending a signal by using a flashlight. Rainsford had become so desperate that he even tried some ridiculous plans like trying to pole vault across the ocean. As a result, Rainsford ended up having huge gashes in his left leg ,which got infected, and he had to amputate it. As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Rainsford had lost hope and became bitter.
“Gunshots again?” questioned Rainsford. Rainsford opens the door and runs in not leaving the slightest hint to where he was. “My name is general Zaroff and I am a big game hunter and no animal can reason with me so you and I will hunt.” Said Zaroff.
Rainsford, unlike Zaroff, makes his own traps to either hurt or kill just in case he is being followed. Zaroff stalks when hunting and watches until he knows to go in for attack. Rainsford was successful with using the traps. He harms Zaroff with one and actually kills Ivan by using traps.
Beyond his reactive and resourceful ways of thinking, Rainsford is visibly aggressive and energetic when he has to fight instead of fleeing. He refuses to allow himself to give up and be killed by Zaroff and decides to keep on running forward. As the hunter is escaping, he says, “Nerve, nerve, nerve!” and then “forced himself on toward that gap”, where he “leaped far out into the sea.” (14). Rainsford believed that he still had enough energy left to swim in the harsh waters. As a result, he experienced a rush of adrenaline due to how
Rainsford and Zaroff display a multitude of traits and passions they possess in common. For example, after Zaroff has welcomed Rainsford
He also kept his head bald so it wouldn’t interfere, but now his head wasn’t bald because he didn’t have anything to shave with on the island.Yet out of all the things Rainsford thought about in the ocean his mind constantly drift back to how he was to get out of this situation. But nevertheless he began to swim in the direction of General Zaroff’s home. He swam and swam until he saw lights . He got out of the water and began to walk towards the lights not thinking but acting on instinct . Then there was a rustling in the bushes and there appeared a dog a big dog which looked very hungry. The dog began to growl and off instinct and not reason Rainsford ran and ran towards the house but the dog was getting closer so he kept running but the dog had got him . Before Rainsford knew it the dog was on top of him eating at his flesh and tearing it away. Rainsford lates there completely giving up. Then a voice boomed through the darkness it was the voice of General Zaroff’s. The dog stopped and took of in the opposite direction of the voice . Then there was no longer a voice but footsteps getting closer and
Rainsford knew he made a bad decision, he didn’t know if he was going to make it, but it was too late. SPLASH! Rainsford fell in the water. He wasn’t sure if he was alive or not. Worried Zaroff was on the top of the cliff getting ready to jump in or even shoot him. He swam as fast as he could. He swam for about a mile and a half until he turned around to check and see if Zaroff was there. Rainsford had an idea. He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea but it was the only idea he had. He decided to swim until he saw land. He swam and swam until it turned dark. Rainsford would
He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided. That night Rainsford slept roughly and cautiously. He was still vigil even after he killed Zaroff. He awoke to the smell of blood and regret. Rainsford felt a little sympathy to Zaroff, but got used to the guilt. He went outside to clean up what was left of Zaroff, and sent the dogs away. When he was dumping the remainder of Zaroff into the sea; he became to feel powerful. He had all the control in the world according to him. Rainsford well on with his day and finally visited the troops that Zaroff had kept hostage. Rainsford was surprised he did not feel empathy. He was in fact fascinated with them. Rainsford told them how he defeated Zaroff, and how he is their new leader.
“He shook his head several times, as if he were puzzled… The general's eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a sprin. But the sharp eyes of the hunter stopped before they reached the limb where Rainsford lay; a smile spread over his brown face (16).” In this quote it shows that Zaroff knew that Rainsford was up in the tree but he was trying to toy with him.
He made his way up a tree and attempted to climb to the next one. Almost like the Capuchin Monkey he hunted in the rainforest. He knew this was a dangerous move in the General’s game. Because Rainsford had already been spotted in a tree by the General. Or so he thought. Rainsford made his way through the dense trees, at a pace he surprisingly thought was much faster than walking through the jungle. He had already analyzed what he knew he would have to do. “There were two huntsman. General Zaroff and his giant henchman, Ivan.” Rainsford said depressingly. He tried to be a hunter and set a trap for Ivan. He made a tripwire type mechanism on the path he walked, that would force Ivan to trip into the small set of spiked sticks. Rainsford of course, made this out of vine, two sticks, and a pile of sharper sticks. He then continued in the
Soon after Rainsford, falls off his yacht and is stranded he finds a mansion where he is welcome by General Zaroff who was a general in the Russian war and is now a hunter. He also meets Ivan who is like a security guard for the mansion. Zaroff talks to Rainsford over dinner and tells him how much he enjoys hunting men for fun since hunting animals became to boring for him. With this comment Rainsford is not happy and wants
He laments that the sailors he lures to the island present less and less of a challenge. Rainsford demands to leave the island at once, but the general refuses and forces Rainsford to be his new prey in the next hunt, hoping that Rainsford, as a renowned big-game hunter, will provide the challenge he seeks. Zaroff promises to set Rainsford free if he lives through the next three days. Rainsford sets off into the jungle after receiving food, clothes, and a knife from Ivan. He cuts a complicated, twisting path through the undergrowth to confuse Zaroff and then climbs a tree to wait as darkness approaches.
“What happened to the general though, Rainsford?” asked a scrawny man, “ it’s not like I miss him or anything, but how do we know this isn’t a trap?”
“I suppose you’re wondering why I have chosen not to kill you,” prompted Rainsford. “Why, you made the game sound like so much fun that I decided that I would give it a go myself. Only one catch, though.” Rainsford paused and chuckled, “my dear friend, you are my quarry!” he exclaimed, with energy that shot through Zaroff’s being.
The day after, Rainsford woke up from his comfy sleep. He gulped his milk, devoured his cookies, then rushed out Château’s main door to check the dog pen. In Rainsford mind, he thought the dogs were extra hungry, because General Zaroff had vanished. “Now let's get back to our happy life!” he shouted. Little did he know, a big surprise was in wait for him.
