While I don't claim to be (anywhere near) the best Personal Development Speaker in the world, if you were to Google the search term Motivational Speaker you would typically find that my name usually comes out somewhere near the very top of the list of about two million matches. Now, let me quickly add that this fact has pretty much nothing to do with my speaking skills or my profile, and everything to do with Johnnie's ability to do what he does with those amazing tech skills of his. I don't really understand how he does it, but I do know that he's good and I'm glad he's on my team. The two most obvious consequences of this Google ranking are: a) I get a bunch of speaking work (nice). Thanks Baldy. b) I get a bunch of emails from people who …show more content…
Always operate with integrity and humility. Build respect, trust and a quality reputation as a presenter and educator. By the way, don't confuse humility for weakness. Humility actually requires real strength. 11. Don't focus on the money. Focus on becoming the best you can be and the financial rewards will be a by-product of that success. Lose the rock star mindset and patiently, methodically and consciously work at becoming a quality speaker. 12. Be clear and certain about what you want to share. What are your key messages? Be succinct and don't waffle. Use stories which re-enforce your message. Give people practical, useful information and strategies which can be applied as soon as they leave the presentation. 13. If you use a power-point slide show (if you must), don't have 300 slides!! Less is more. Don't have too many words on each slide and don't use more than twenty slides in a one hour presentation (at the most!). 14. Talk with people not at them. Less lecturing, more conversational chat. People won't connect with you if they don' think you're like them (in some way). 15. Don't be precious. If you constantly need to have your ego stroked and you can't deal with criticism then this ain't the career for
you will need to prepare a set of slides and presentation notes (speaker notes with details that you will give during the presentation).
Create a 5-6 minute presentation using PowerPoint visuals. Make sure your PowerPoint follows the guidelines discussed in class. The purpose of the presentation should be to inform the audience. Your presentation should reflect a topic, theme, or issue relevant to your major. For ideas of topics, you may consider looking at issues of Crains’ Chicago, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, cnn.com, The Huffington Post, NPR.org, Slate, Wired, or industry-specific papers/journals in your area of study.
As a member of the eighth best speech and debate team in the nation, I have written and performed over ten award winning programs and speeches. Ironically, I auditioned for the speech and debate team fully aware of my nearly debilitating stage fright. However, my courage to step way outside of my comfort zone, and the success that ensued, demonstrates my agility, adaptability, and
Write out what you will say for each slide starting with an introduction and then go through each step of the process. Be sure to include all four states of an instructional presentation. Include as many slides as you have.
One other thing I really like is how you decided to structure the class while doing presentation, I feel like allot more people are able to engage and not be distracted, also this helps the presenter allot because not everyone stares at you like they would while sitting in rows, so the circle we sit in, is really working for
What do you plan to share on the slide and in your script? You may include descriptions of visuals or other elements as needed.
Practice the presentation multiple times. The information can be confusing, so make sure you are prepared as there are many facts and figures you should know.
Personally, Ms. Waymon webinar, helped me understand the importance of storytelling and how easy of a technique it is to network with others that may potentially aid you in the future. I watched presentations on public speakers, technology, and science and even on public speaking and now after watching this webinar I recognize the importance of storytelling and what for speakers and people of their everyday lives. All of those speakers used at least one story and each of those stories usually had an audience and I engaged into that I have watched in the past have all used some components of storytelling and it actually has engaged listener’s such as myself to think what we would do if we were in the situation. As a young and upcoming professional in the field of public service, I believe it is important to use craft stories in order further engage listeners and motivate
Ed Boden is an event planner at the Westin Galleria working close to the food and beverage department. Ed gave helpful advice on how to represent yourself to your clients to show how competent you are for the job. One important thing he emphasized on was to be confident in yourself when speaking to the clients. He gave us an example on the two different ways to approach people, one with intimidation and the other with assertiveness. These examples showed the impact people can make to their audience by how they carry themselves. I personally found this helpful because I feel that I lack confidence when I speak to people and him pointing that out made me realized I need to work on that.

3. PowerPoint _____ should reinforce the speaker’s message and help the audience retain the information
The kind of determination I demonstrated routinely, though valuable, was useless in correcting my poor public speaking skills. I had a penchant for gritting my teeth, putting my head down and doing the difficult, yet routine, tasks. However, up until now, I had rarely practiced stepping outside of my comfort zone. Considering this, the keys to
Ask each group to come to the front of the room and do their presentation.
Six years ago, I was asked to manage a client retention team working at a superannuation fund. I had been working as a call consultant within this same team for two years prior. I was the most experienced consultant in the team and my results showed I was achieving 130% of target, the remaining five consultants were averaging 50% of their targets. The five-other staff were very inexperienced, total time spent in the team tallied less than 12 months. My manager expressed concern that my output would drop because of my added responsibilities, I acknowledged this would happen. I believed in time would more than triple any shortfall from my own output.
In my school life I really was unconfident or shy in speaking. But after joining my Degree Entry Program (DEP) and learning this skill I myself improved the way and became confident to share my idea or to carry out my presentation in front of many people. I learned this skill by the assignments given to me in my DEP by my teachers. These assignments included individual presentations and group presentations. Firstly it was my individual presentation at first I was nervous but after watching my classmates presentations I got motivated and carried out my presentation. From that day onwards I felt that I am starting to learn this skill. Then after the group presentations I believed that now I have totally adopted this skill and it was totally fun and interesting for me to go and do more and more presentation. This skill taught me to be professional speaker and also taught me the basic elements needed in speaking or the structure of speech. It improved my speaking skill and took it to a whole new level. Throughout my DEP I noticed a great improvement in my speaking skill; therefore I got better grades in my presentations. So I went on and used this presentation during my DEP and am ready to use it in my future. Now I believe I am ready to face future challenges in my life and become a perfect speaker in my
