Once upon a time, when I was about 8 years old, my family and I decided to take a trip over to South Dakota to check out Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. The first cabin that we stayed at was in a nice little campground. The people next to us had some sweet looking Harley Davidson's. From there we went to Mount Rushmore and the Badlands, which were really cool. My dad, my brother and I climbed on all the rock formations, while my mom watched us because she was too scared. I was a little scared because the people who were telling us about the badlands told us to watch out for rattlesnakes. I didn’t want to come across one of those, because they could kill you. I tried to stay away from dark crevices and holes as much as possible, so I would’nt …show more content…
We got to walk to right underneath it and go through this museum about how it was all created, who built it, and how long it took. It really made me think about how great this world is that we all live in and all of the amazing people and places that make it even better. We walked trails all around Mount Rushmore and saw some really cool things. I pointed out an owl that looked so creepy as it perched itself in a huge evergreen. I had a really good time, but we had to leave to go see other things. Once we were all done checking that out we went to a quiet fishing spot next to a lake where we caught a couple of fish that we ate later. It drizzled a little when we were fishing, but only for 5-10 minutes, then there was a beautiful rainbow that stretched from one side of the lake to the other. We then settled down in a little cabin that was literally all alone, there were no other cabins in sight. I remember watching SpongeBob with my brother as I gently fell asleep. After we stayed at that cabin for about 2 days we were on our way back. We stopped and took pictures with the buffalos because that’s what mom wanted to do even though dad thought it was kind of dangerous. The buffalo could've charged at any time, but they didn't so it was all good. As we drove through the plains we saw so many different and cool animals that would come out to our car and visit with us. But then it was all over and we were back on the
Have you ever wondered what happened behind the gates of Tuxedo Park when it was first discovered? The book “The World with a Fence Around It,” by George M. Rushmore, is about Tuxedo Park in its first years. Pierre Lorillard was the founder of the Park, while Bruce Price was the architect. Many people visited Tuxedo Park in its early days such as Mark Twain, and Emily Post. Although, Tuxedo Park may be an old town, discovered in 1885 by Pierre Lorillard, it has much to offer, such as, a weekend home, hunting, fishing, and more sports that started around the same time the Park.
Then we went to see whales, and we were pretty lucky, because we saw a lot of big, blue whales, with water spouting out there blowholes. It was really cool. We also stopped where there was a pretty waterfall that ran down gracefully, but was very loud.

“Many historians consider the Battle of King's Mountain on October 7, 1780 to be the turning point in America's War for Independence.” (hankla)
In the Black Hills of South Dakota, there is a monument that is dedicated to four of the most influential figures in American history. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt are names that still to this day trigger thoughts of greatness and awe-inspiring men. All four of these men were presidents of the United States. They each had a signature style or brought a particular ideal the American forefront. George Washington was known as the "father of our country." Thomas Jefferson co-authored the Declaration of Independence. Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation. Theodore Roosevelt fought for the little man, was known for his brashness, and
Voted the second most beautiful vista in America, Mount Washington is a well-known overlook of downtown Pittsburgh. Mount Washington, now a beautiful mountain with a tree covered Cliffside, was not always known for its sights. Many are unaware of the dirty environment that it used to be. Once known as Coal Hill, Mount Washington was the location of many coal mines. Back in the late 1800’s, this mountain was the source that fueled and built Pittsburgh. From the ravaging coal minds to the breathtaking Inclines, there is a lot of history that is hidden under the beautiful area which we now know as Mount Washington.
Senator Peter Norbeck was Mount Rushmore's great political patron and promoter of the construction of the giant structure. Norbeck helped raise almost a million dollars for the project during the years of the Great Depression.
Mount Redoubt is an active volcano. A volcano is an opening on the surface of the Earth letting the hotter material inside escape the mountain or hill. (Magma or Lava) When that magma escapes, the mountain creates an explosion. If a volcano has erupted in the last 10,000 years then it is still considered an active volcano.
Around the time I was 6 years old we were living in a small town in the mountains of Costa Rica the towns name was Montverde. I did not have friends or a street to ride my bike, what I had was an imagination that ran wild. We lived in the middle of the clouded rainforest where wild hogs and tapirs would surround the house and even rub their bodies up again the outside of my bedroom, it was not uncommon to come across a recently shedded skin of a boa constrictor or chase out tarantulas the size of a adult's hand from the house.
So, true it does show that disaster is impulsive no matter what we try to do. Also, the eruption of Mt. Helens did give many individuals data about what transpires before and during eruptions. The amazing part to me was the lump on the side of the volcano that was fulling up with lava. Additionally, these natural landmarks (volcanoes) are astonishing but we must be very cautious about them.
This past summer my family went on a vacation out west to Zion National Park, Utah. In Zion, we saw many amazing things, but nothing could compare to our trip to the top of Angel's Landing. The morning of our hike we were scheduled to leave our hotel by six o’clock. It was cold and foggy and all I had on was a pair of shorts, a tank top, and my new black hiking sandals; nonetheless, I was freezing. When we finally got to the shuttle bus stop there were very few people there. On the shuttle bus ride, my anxiety about going on this hike was growing even more.
The four former presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, are all of different time periods, but each did this country a great service. Though some people may not agree that these four iconic men in America’s history should be on the Mount Rushmore project, we can all agree these were great leaders, and important men in the shaping of the United States of America. I believe, if we were to pick four men and put their faces on a giant rock these four men deserve it. You could argue that others should be, but if we did not have these men leading our country we could be shaped very different than what we are right now. This is why I agree with these four gentlemen being the four faces on Mount Rushmore.
Mount Rushmore is one of the greatest monuments in the United States that represents American heros. It took the sculptor, Gutzon Borglum 14 years from 1927 to 1941 to complete the national memorial. The four heads chiseled into the granite wall in South Dakota today are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. These are four great leaders of America, and the question is: If four more people were added to Mount Rushmore, who would it be and why? The four best people to represent America on Mount Rushmore next should be Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, and Helen Keller for their perseverance and hard work for equal rights.
Mount Rushmore is one of the greatest monument in the u.s. Today many people say it is the greatest historical monument in history. When we got to Abe Lincoln's house, it was really cool to see his house, everyone was really excited because this was the main thing the people in my class were talking about before the trip. We had to go in the the house in groups because the house had a capacity of how many people could go in at once. We took a tour of the house through the different rooms. It was cool that the house was so secure, the house actually had a carpet that you
