When you first walk into my room to the left there is a blue and black trampoline chair. Across the room there is a pick trampoline chair. Near the door of my room to the right there are 3 posters and my art table. Next to my blue chair I have a desk that's lined up with my bed. At the foot of my bed is my dresser and TV. Near the TV is my final table with my Playstation and sewing machine on
I lugged my bags up to my room and collapsed onto the bed. It was on the second floor of the house and the window looked out over the backyard that was shadowed by the surrounding forest. The floor was covered in light grey carpet and the wall painted a plain off white. A dark, wooden bed took up most of the room, pale fairy lights haphazardly thrown along the headboard. Two matching bedside tables sat on either side of the bed and an empty desk sat opposite it.
“They walked and talked of the strange light on the sea… talked of how sultry it was after a hot day” and discussed employment and birthplaces (897). After departing from Yalta, Chekhov details Gurov’s dreary life of “children [having] breakfast and getting ready for school… entertaining distinguished lawyers... walking his daughter to school” (901, 905).
There was a relaxing feeling coming from the room. The colors were pretty mellow such as the cream-colored walls. Although the room gave off this aura, there was a very elegant tea set in the middle of the room. The wall contained a fireplace while the corner of the room contained a combination of both a bookshelf and a desk. The desk had a pair of golden glasses that belonged to one of the men who lived in the home (I can’t recall exactly who they belonged to). Aside from these things, the room also contained what looked like a very comfortable couch. The guide stated that all of the pieces in the house aside from one fireplace and most of the replicated sales pieces in the General Store.
Auty, Robert, and Dimitri Obolensky. 1976. "An Introduction to Russian History (Companion to Russian Studies;1)." Brisol, Great Britain : Cambridge University Press Ltd.
Gender roles had been long established in minds of the Russian people, meaning that men were the primary breadwinners and women were in charge of the household work and childrearing. From the days of the tsar, there had never been much opportunities for women outside their homes, but with the creation of a new government that claimed equality and refuted oppression, it appeared that the situation of women would change. Looking at the research done over the last fifty years, this paper aims to examined the different claims historians have made over the impact women had in the Soviet Union, from economic contribution, traditional female roles, and lastly their place within the Soviet society.
Besides my personal struggles in assimilating and divulging myself into Russian culture, I also took part in many conversations with my dear Nicholas, consisting of him mostly explaining new policies and advances, and me listening in admiration of my husband’s intelligence and pride for his country and his people. I remember him explaining his new installment of railroads and graciously providing money to local business, as a way to level out the Motherland with the other Western countries so that our citizens and the people of the world can look upon Russia with pride and envy of it development. Even then, however, I knew that there was still turmoil in my dear country, Russia was still behind in industrialization and many had began to question the rule and decisions of your father. Nevertheless, I believed that as long as the autocracy remained intact and with my husband, Nicholas II, leading it, Russia would prosper and all would be merry. If only I could have known just how wrong, I
The events of this Ivan Ilych are demonstrated in the book The Death of Ivan Ilych. The book starts at a point when Ivan Ilych is announced to have passed on. The fascinating part of this book is that the story begins at a timeline end of the Ivan Ilych story. In this paper, the evaluation of the events about Ivan’s death needs a critical examination from different writers. As such, they go ahead to think of the possible job promotion or transfer within the court. A friend to a widowed family should always be there for the widowed to show love and care, Peter Ivanovich had to do so to Praskovya who was in a mourning state. With this, solidarity during times of need would be portrayed to Ivan’s wife. The condemnation expression on Ivan’s face becomes a bother to Peter Ivanovich but Ivan’s wife who wants to seek more knowledge about the best possible way to increase Ivan’s pension from the government interrupts him. As he walks out of Ivan’s house, Peter Ivanovich encounters Ivan’s sick nurse Gerasim who make a very stern statement about everyone dying some day in life.
Christopher Read, the author of the book From Tsar to Soviets: The Russian People and Their Revolution, 1917-21, is a professor at the University of Warwick in Europe. Read teaches twentieth-century European history. He specializes in the social history of the Russian Revolution and the intellectual history of the Russian intelligentsia between 1900 and 1995. This book is about the Russian Revolution, which is a pair of Revolutions put together. This is known as a broad topic today. From Tsar to Soviets brought up new information on relativities on participating and living through such events and it talks about the way men and women had to live their lives in the villages and towns in Russia. Read talks about many of the hardships and how they had to overcame these hardships through-out this revolution. It was seen as peasants against landlords, nationalists against Great Russians and workers against capitalists. One of Read’s goals was to put more emphasis on social history in this book.

Russia’s social problems included those of agriculture, labor, and nationality, socioeconomic inequality, society’s cultural split, and the low standard of living—even though it had risen. These problems were being dealt with successfully, but they had not been solved. Let us remember that the burden of the war that even Germany, which was modernized in all respects, was unable to withstand, proved to be very severe. Russia had the prerequisites for emerging from the war victorious (together with its allies) if it had not been for the increasingly fierce struggle for power between the monarchy and the radical liberal opposition, which, under the conditions of a very difficult war, criminally encouraged the people to overthrow Nicholas II. The Revolution went forward in accordance with the classic scenario: the crisis of the “Old Regime”; the establishment of the power of the “moderates”; the victory of the radicals who created “a kingdom of terror and virtue”; and Thermidor, or the counterrevolutionary coup and post revolution dictatorship. As a result of the irresponsible behavior of the liberal and revolutionary elites the country was plunged into chaos for a number of years. (Mironov 94).
Gender segregation is a major part of societal standards in Russia in the late nineteenth century. Women and men are assigned different roles in life and family. Society, in that time, considered them to be superior and the head of the house. Due to Raskolnikov’s father
The Provence up-cycled chair, Skeletal Wall clock and Persian rug are a wonderful step back into the Victorian era, making a vital connection to the original house. The curves of these items plus the Victorian techniques of bending wood with the use of steam were an inspiration for the contemporary furniture and lighting. These items include the Cork side tables, X coffee table, C12 Chair, Loungers and Stem lighting by Tom Raffield. These shapes form a visual echo, helping the eclectic space to gel by finding common ground within the shapes. The space draws energy from the contrasting textures of the re-cycled plastic bottle Nova ceiling light, textile Wall Hanging, smooth Knot Forgotten vases, wool Blanket and the metal hubcap Husky Pup sculpture. The scheme falls in place by incorporating natural colours such as the ‘nature’ inspired artwork and the soft relaxed colours of Palladium Blue paint on the west facing wall in contrast to the timeless warm greige colour of Willow Creek on the North facing wall. Whilst the long east-facing wall remains exposed brick, as this will help to reduce the use of raw materials such as water, waste and packaging used to add finishes such as plaster and paint. In addition, the high thermal mass of the exposed brick will help to store natural energy absorbed by the sun and release it over time, helping to reduce the use of
One place that I see every day but don’t put much attention to is my house. The house that I live in is near by a park and a gas station. My house is small and cozy is made of steel frames, the anterior part of the house has a beige and pink color that combine a beautiful shade. The inside of my house has many portraits of family members and drawings. I have a total of two bathrooms and four rooms a kitchen and two living rooms. We have a living room that’s used for grown-ups and the other one is used for the children. The kitchen table and chairs are made of wood, in the ceiling there is big chandelier. The walls of my house are painted in different colors that are green, beige and pink. I like that every room has its own different color, it’s not boring it brings life and shade.
In the corner you can see the fairies and pixies fighting over the pizza i was eating yesterday which is infact my favourite food. The design of the rooms is very unique like everything has been put in a place for a reason. The oldest think i can remember here is the sofa which i bought 2 years ago. I remember when we first bought it, the smile on my face and the arguing between my dad and brother. "Go left, Go left" he would yell. Ahh good times. It used to be clean but the constant food i would eat on it could have changed that. Like most teenagers i have many posters on my walls mostly of role models that I admire, favourite teams and a few cute girls here and there. The most visible thing here is probably the red carpet that covers the bedroom as far as your eyes can see. In the corner of my bedroom is my desk which I normally do all of my homework and assignments, On top of it sat my computer which is always on. My previous desk somehow broke and
