Have you ever had to face a fear, well I did when I was nine years old I caught a garden snake, and that was the first time I had ever caught a snake. It was not the best experience. It was late August and my cousin Juliette, my sister Alivia and I were looking around in my dad's back yard for garden snakes.
We were poking around with a stick and my sister saw something moving under our brown labs paw. My cousin poked it with the stick and it struck at the the stick. She found out it was a snake. My sister and I were terrified, screaming our heads off, and getting ready to run into our house. My step mom came out from in the house and picked it up and put it in a container. We sat there and looked at
My mother told me her story about her high school best friend turning out to be a snake.
During the Salem witch trials, many lives that were taken due to a few people’s self defence. In the book, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a group of girls caused a whole town to go array. This group of girls were caught naked, dancing and conjuring spirits. These girls were going to accept the blame and receive the whipping for what they did, but one of the girls, Abigail, was not about to go down. Abigail had the whole group of girls convinced that it would be best to lie and to not accept the beating. By doing this, they were put into the court and used to tell the judges whether or not the people whom were accused were truly witches. Though the girls had no way of telling if the accused were truly witches, they
Our room had a balcony that overlooked a small piece of nature, and as I looked down, I saw something small and furry in the grass. It was averaged sized for its species and had the furriest little tail ever. I walked around, calmly looking for something to eat, preferably a rodent. I got the rest of my family to see a cat we named it Biscotty the
Fear is a feeling created in a response to a perceived danger. Fear can produce pleasure, heighten awareness, be in the form of phobia, a fear of the unknown and an instinctual response to danger.
Dealing With Fear Tim O’Brien writes a short story about himself named, “On the Rainy River,” which deals with his fears and the struggle to make decisions for his life. One day he receives a draft notice for the Vietnam War. However, he decides to escape by running away to Canada. He stays at the Tip Top Lodge for several days, and meets Elroy Berdahl. When O’Brien is faced with a dilemma to make a decision, Elroy serves as a hero in his life.
Arthur Miller wrote “The Crucible” in 1952 and about forty years later explained his purpose in an article titled “Why I Wrote the Crucible.” Miller expresses some of the emotions he went through as his book gained popularity saying, “I remember those years...but I have lost the dead weight of the fear I had then. Fear doesn't travel well; just as it can warp judgment, its absence can diminish memory's truth.” At first, he refers to fear as dead weight as if it was useless but still pulling him down but then he explains the importance of fear. He claimed that fear can warp our judgement which seems realistic because when people are in a situation the causes fear they are known to take out of the ordinary action. Miller also suggests that fear is a crucial part of our memory and without fear our memories can fade and the truth of the issue as well. Miller was likely fearful of the
My fear is Lepidopterophobia, which is the word for fear of butterflies. Many times I have been letting others know about my fear and they always thought it was very funny because butterflies are very small and beautiful. However, I have reason to fear it. My fear has happen since
Do all living things fear something? Those with minds surely have many and various fears, but even the simplest organisms must have fear, for fear is such a powerful feeling. Fear is all around us and is felt in every corner of the earth. Fear is the emotion or feeling that a living creature gets when its physical or mental life is interrupted by a change that causes the creature concern.
I went through the cemetery because it is said the demons who burned the church down found home in the dead bodies that are six feet under. I went with my 16 year old sister which was a mistake. I started walking we heard noise in the trees, I just assumed it was a fox or raccoon or something, it scared the hell out of my sister and she latched to my arm and was so close I
In a little town called Shadow Bay, there was the Walsh Family this was no ordinary family or any ordinary town. The Walsh family consisted of the father Walter, 17-year-old daughter Liv and the 3-year-old brother Max. The Walsh family has had a rough year, especially Liv. Anyone in her situation would be having a rough year, She was the who found out her mother had been having an affair. Yeah, all the late nights at the office made sense to Walter, but Liv knew something was wrong. So she did what any 17-year-old girl would do and she followed her mom to work on Thursday, January 12th and Liv knew once her mom made a right turn towards Shadow Bay High School instead of a left to the hospital her suspicions were correct. Her mother had met with her English teacher Mr. Phillips this wasn't a parent-teacher conference meeting though, this is was what Liv had feared most her mother was having an affair. Liv didn’t go straight to her father with this new knowledge because deep down she already knew he knew. If a teenage girl can figure it out so can a 45-year-old man. Later that night, things were tense among the Walsh family, after dinner Walter confronted Mary about the affair and that’s when Liv knew things would only get worse from here. Mary packed her bags and told Liv to grab Max and head to the car, yet Liv didn’t move and neither did Max. Mary left and then filed for full custody of the kids, but to recieve that the kids would want her to be in their lives
Fear is something that large amounts of people have encountered at least once at some point in their lives. It has been said to have caused a variety of outcomes, many of them being largely negative. Therefore, it is a common human response to react to fear by counteracting it with positivity and/or success. The idea people have of what fear is depends on the person. In the article “How Fear Works”, for example, fear is defined as a “chain reaction in the brain that starts with a stressful stimulus and ends with the release of chemicals” (Layton 1). The website “Psychology Today” defines fear another way, calling it “a vital response to physical and emotional danger” ("Fear Paranoia”). There are several other definitions people have on the
Culture of Fear, by Frank Furedi, is a book that looks at how widespread fear impacts Western cultures like the United States and Great Britain. Frank Furedi believed that society tends to panic too much, as we actually enjoy "an unprecedented level of safety." I admit that Frank Furedi's novel is based upon a novel concept, and an interesting one at that. However, Frank Furedi comes off to me as little more than a fear monger and an intellectual elitist. His book, to me, seems redundant more often than not. But sometimes part of college is learning about points of view that you may not agree with, so I tried to maintain that perspective when I read the book.
of me. I remember how I felt after being awoken by the fear of death.
There is an important event that happens in every person’s life. That important event may be a number of things. Such as someone winning the lottery or even having a tragic loss in the family. My important event in life was the day I conquered my fear of heights. Everyone has some type of fear or phobia that absolutely petrifies them. Whether it’s a fear of snakes, swimming, or even germs, it can be conquered as I discovered.
An unpleasant emotion or feeling caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat : Fear. Fear is a strong word, it can mean a variety of things and lead to a variety of things depending on who you are. My fear caused me to shake and tremble as if the world was coming to an end. It makes me feel safe around no one. I look back on my life and ask myself, was it all worth it for this? It makes me shrink and fall the size of of a humming bird. My stomach starts to feel like it never has before. My head is spinning in circles and my hands are trembling to the point where I think they might fall off.
