The New England Quarium has many political and symbolic assumptions and concepts that contribute to the problem of the organization as a whole. The political concepts that apply to this case are conflict, negotiation, power and coalition building. The symbolic frame concepts that may also apply are core values and assumptions, stories and rituals. This memo is a detailed analysis of how the above concepts apply to the New England Aquarium case. This memo will also provide feasible solutions to Cynthis Mackey the chief operating officer of the aquarium, that could be implemented to reverse many of the wrong decisions, The New England Aquarium is a coalition that works in collaboration with external unders such as the government to fund the organization's youth program. The youth programs were put into the place to help woth the adaption of the new goal and mission statement. The purpose of the mission statement was to improve its public image by diversifying the staff and reaching out to the local minority communites. First, Mackey must develop an “agenda for change”. The plan will determine the long and short term interests of Williams, the external funders why also keeping in mind the rules and regulations of the shareholders. She must also develop a political hierarchy map that will establish who are authorative figures and the levels of power. Mackey must also negotiate with shareholders on funds that are being of contributed to the organization. She must also bargain with external funders on how the funds should be used and to redefine how the students are selected for the program and how they are dispersed throughout the aquarium. When dispersing the students, she must keep in mind the main focus of the organization, to increase diversity to improve the aquariums public image within the

In the essay “Marine Parks”, Bill Daly The Power of Critical Thinking. 3rd Lewis Vaughn and Chris McDonald. Daly’s main claim is that marine parks, housing dolphins, whales, seals, and other marine mammals, have become a contentious issue. He explains the views of these problems set out to prevent the necessity of theses harsh institutions. Bill gathers a variety of different arguments from other people that argue on the critical issue of having marine parks open or closed; many arguments, for and against, maintaining such parks, range from the economic and scientific value of such places, to the cruel and in-necessary conditions the mammals are forced to endure. Below I intend to present a couple such arguments and introduce some critical evaluations, explanations, and my personal opinions.

In John Winthrop’s essay “City Upon a Hill”, Winthrop expresses his distinct views on the aims of the Puritans coming to New England. During the early 17th century in Europe, some groups separated from the Church of England. These groups were known as the Pilgrims, who founded Plymouth Colony in 1620. This religion had a direct impact on religious ideas and culture in America. John Winthrop acquired a royal charter from King Charles I and created the Massachusetts Bay Colony. “City Upon a Hill” was written on the ship during the first mass Puritan migration to New England. This document provided the followers with a plan regarding their goals upon arriving in America. Winthrop firmly believes that the people who are willing to be fully
“Connecticut, pine trees in back” by Alex DuBois is a personal narrative that goes through his hardships. He goes deep within his memories and pulls the readers attention by using a special choice of words, these words being explicit as you would not normally see in other writings. This is why his personal narrative is so special. In my creative writing, I rewrote his piece and put it in my own memories. I chose to write in this genre like DuBois to express my life like he did. He was very clear and precise on his memories of his life and I tried to act the same. Here is the analytical statement of “the escape” by Trevor Folts.
Since SeaWorld opened in 1964, the park has encountered harsh criticism from the public. Whether criticized for their ethics or their oblivious harm to animals, the underwater amusement park raises many ethical questions regarding the captivity of sea animals, especially orcas. Most people are uninformed about orcas to begin with, so they do not understand why SeaWorld is such a terrible place. SeaWorld exploits animals in their shows to bring revenue to their company, while disregarding the physical and mental health of the animals. Today, people have begun to see the reasons why SeaWorld should close. SeaWorld should close their doors due to their record of unhealthy orcas, their aggressive killer whale, Tilikum, and their dishonesty to the public.
In the 1700's, the Chesapeake and the New England area would bond to become one territory. It was from the very starting, both had very distinct and unique persona. These dissimilarities spurred from one foremost factor: the very reason the settlers came to the New World. This influenced the colonies in literally every way, including economically, communally, and politically. The Chesapeake district of the colonies encompassed Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia. In 1607, Jamestown, the primary English colony within the New World to thrive and prosper, was founded by an assembly of 104 settlers to a peninsula along the James stream. These settlers wanted to find gold, silver, a northwest passage to Asia, a therapy for syphilis, or
One example all orcas have their own pods ( family ) in the wild. Imagine if you were an orcas and you were captured and taken away from your family to live with complete strangers. Orcas are genius animals they are one of the smartest marine life animal. This clearly shows that sea world and other marine parks that keep orcas in captivity only want the orcas so that they can make money. If marine parks wanted to have orcas for a good reason don't just for money they would be taking good care of them and instead of taking them out of their happy families in the wild and bringing them into a bad home. From the article, “should orca shows be banned” the article clearly stated that when orcas live in the wild they all have their own pod with about 5-10 whales. Each pod of orcas all have their own way of squeal and languages to communicate. It could be that when an orca is taken out of the wild and into a new tiny artificial pool they are basically being put with a bunch of strangers. Picture this if you were an orca, suddenly you fall and trip and everything has been blacked out. You wake up the next day without your family and you are put in a tiny pool with 5 different strangers and you are forced to live with them. You are then forced to be doing tricks
Colonial Williamsburg is a museum that reflects what Williamsburg was like in the 1700's. It features many colonial buildings and shows how people lived back then. You can also go through the buildings and go on awesome tours. Each one has their own purpose in colonial times. But one of them, I believe, Should have a commemorative coin. That building is the Capitol. I believe this because it played a major role in the past, it has significance today, and it best relates to the motto “the future may learn from the past.
Andrew Largeman's (Zack Braff) journey throughout "Garden State" seems to be a testament on the meaning of liberation. Going from his struggling acting life in Los Angeles to his hometown in New Jersey, where he witnesses his mother's funeral, Andrew is in the mist of confronting difficult issues. One of the biggest issues is coming to terms with his psychologist father (Ian Holm), whom he has distanced himself from for many years because he has put him on powerful antidepressants for most of his life. The reason for this I will not reveal but it has caused Andrew to feel as if his father has controlled his life in a way.
Animal rights activists have been around for decades, and while their efforts have made some measurable changes, there is still more that needs to be done. One of the most influential factors of Blackfish was it’s convenient timing because “the size of the movement … w[as] less important than … the responses of the targeted groups [that were] shaped in part by the timing of the campaign in the life of the entire animal rights movement” (Jasper 655-656). Blackfish was created after the death of SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau, made national news back in 2010. It did not matter how big the documentary was, the fact that it came out shortly after Dawn’s death and was centered around her and the orca that took her life, automatically captured the nations’ attentions.
And third, we are announcing a partnership with the Humane Society of the United States focusing on ocean health and the protection of fish and marine mammals.” (Fair Disclosure Wire.) This source is credible because the speakers are direct advocates of SeaWorld. Also they are have a lot of experience in the animal care field therefore defending their stakeholder position. One limitation of this is the bias toward SeaWorld and their defense of their alleged animal abuse.
It is clear that change is needed in Yellowtail Marine Inc. As newly appointed – and rather sudden – CEO, Gilcrist face the challenge to establish her leadership in the company. She must be able to address a clear and meaningful vision to the company. Developing and communicating a vision is one of the most important and visible communication tasks she must overcome.
Though season made it uncomfortable for settlers, it also allowed the agriculture to be diverse. They had long, harsh winters which resulted in an extremely short growing season compared to the other colonies. A result of the short growing season was that few New England families became wealthy by farming. It was also because New Englanders planted just enough food for their family. Other jobs in New England included lumbering, fishing, fur trading, shipbuilding, and rum distilling. New England towns were set up so that trading would be possible and everyone would be part of a congregation. They did this by having the residence live in close-knit communities. Though this idea was later deserted. By 1700 New England had a population that
The author John Smith, a pilgrim who arrived to the Americas, wrote a description of the new land in his book “ A Description of New England ”. In this book Smith shows a wonderful world of vast food and pleasure. Also, William Bradford another pilgrim who arrived to Plymouth on the coast of Massachusetts, wrote a book called “ Of Plymouth Plantation ” in which he describes what really happened, how the pilgrims actually lived. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast both authors and their books. John Smith wrote about the wonderful place the New World was, on the other hand, William Bradford wrote about the realities and difficulties of the New World.
