On a day to day bases, men and women in prison or jail are dehumanized and terrorized by their superiors or even their inmates in the Criminal Justice System. The inmates that are in this situation are usually physically, emotionally, and mentally abused, they are often deprived of meals and are belittled. The inmates in this situation have no other choice but adapt to their best ability of the harsh situation they are founded in or be broken and taken over by the system they are forced to be a part of. Is it true that a person in difficult situations needs to be indifferent of their past because being nostalgic can only hurt them? Or does the harsh situation they become a custom to make it easier to forget their past life?. Solzhenitsyn uses Shukhov’s indifferent attitude towards his past to illustrate that a person cannot be nostalgic because it can lead to one’s self-destruction.

His love for a woman caused bad decision making on his part. Cross could only think of Martha. “Lieutenant Cross gazed at the tunnel. But he was not there. He was buried with Martha under the white sand at the Jersey Shore…Vaguely, he was aware of how quiet the day was, he sullen paddies, yet he could not bring himself to worry about matters of security. He was beyond that. He was just a kid at war, in love” (O’brien 235). The death of Lavender made Cross come to a realization about his place in the war. He realized that his love for a woman that would never love him back caused him to be neglectful of what he was supposed to be thinking about. His men’s safety became his number one priority. Lavender’s death affected him in a way that no love letter from Martha could. “…Lieutenant Cross reminded himself that his obligation was not to be loved but to lead” (O’brien

During the Cold War, many lessons were learned. The United States had to learn these lessons to survive in a rapidly changing world. It learned lessons from the incident in the Gulf of Tonkin and the resolution that followed that lead to the invasion of Vietnam. It learned lessons from the horrors of war in Vietnam. And it learned lessons from The My Lai massacre in Vietnam, one of those very horrors. One lesson that was learned from all these incidents is that in uncertain times, restraint should be exercised. This lesson can be applied to situations like the War in Iraq. that the U.S. finds itself in today.
The film makes no reference to KGB (Committee for State Security), that functioned as the security agency of Soviet Union from 1954. The Soviet spies in the film North by Northwest are Americans/English who seamlessly blend into a cultured, upper class American landscape of mansions and auction houses. Philip Vandamm (James Mason) is the villain and Leonard (Martin Landau) plays his second fiddle. Leonard is the one who discovers that Eve is an American spy, because Leonard not only worked for Vandamm, he was also in love with him. In order to prove his allegiance and affection Leonard
