In 1948, Korea was divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. Unlike South Korea, North Korea is still a very closed economy. There is not a lot of foreign investment inside the country except from South Korea and China. North Korea is a one party controlled country so the government is everywhere. Public service is completely under government control. Everything from construction to financial services is controlled by the government. Corruption can be seen more in North Korea because of the serious shortages of foods, goods, and housing. If the company is trying to do business with North Korea, they have to seek help from government officials, which means they have to pay a bribe.

North Korea’s economy is very different then the United States’ economy. Even though one dollar in American money doesn’t seem much to us Americans, it is worth nine-hundred dollars in their currency. North Korea’s main sources of income are military products, machine building, electrical power, chemicals, mining, metallurgy, textiles, food processing and tourism. North Korea’s overall condition of the economy is not good.

The radio cannot be turned off and out of it, it sends out North Korea propaganda.

North Korea and America have many differences. In North Korea there is a shortage of food. The government uses fear tactics against its own citizens. North Korea citizens are blocked off from the outside world and know very little about it. The country has a large number of prison camps that hold Koreans.

Each and every country has a different form of government, as there are also various forms of governments’ to choose from. From a democratic government to which the United States has in place, to a communist government in which North Korea practices. There are plenty of pros and cons to each form of government and how the country is being overlooked. I have researched North Korea and I will be talking about their country and their government. North Korea is a harsh country to live in. It is very difficult to live in North Korea because health concerns are very high, there is barely any freedom, and schools there are very different than the United States. Health concerns are very high because North Korea can't even pay for enough food for their people so they start getting sick (¨Liberty in North Korea¨). There are a lot of poor people their so they can’t pay for medicine to make them feel better (¨Liberty in North Korea¨). After you finish your school year you still would have to work for the state during the summer (The World Book Encyclopedia 2006). Once you get in North Korea you can never come out. Which is unfair for all the people their that want to travel the world.
