North Vs. South: The American Civil War

The end of the Civil War in 1865 was a very conflicting time for the United States. On one hand, the sanguinary struggles of the war had finally come to a close. On the other hand, the desperate desire to rebuild the damage in the South quickly became very popular. This was called Reconstruction, an era focused on changing the ethos of resisting Southerners and installing equal civil rights for all citizens. Despite how important Reconstruction was for rebuilding the American economy, this desire ultimately came to an end in 1877. Northern Neglect and Southern Resistance both played major roles that influenced the termination of Reconstruction, in which Freedmen were being noticed as equal in our society. Towards the end of the Civil War, slaves began to have hope in America because the tables were beginning to turn. It was the 100th anniversary of The Declaration of Independence, and former slave states started allowing black Americans in their home (Background Essay). Three Amendments were formed to officially end slavery, provide rights and protection, and made it illegal to deny someone to vote based on their race (Background Essay). It was paradise. Although, new groups such as the KKK (Klu-Klux-Klan) were formed, and Northerns didn’t seem to be themselves, changes were being made. Paradise was over. Our question is now, Who Killed Reconstruction? I believe the South killed reconstruction because of their violent and murderous actions toward the former slaves.

The truth is both sides ruined the chances of reconstruction.They are both at fault. The south and the northerners had an equal part at failing to continue the reconstruction because from the south there was an organization; a cult called the Ku klux Klan.The kkk did not accept african americans. They were so cruel and inhumane to them the kkk would slaughter , manipulate, and even taunt them till the african americans would fear them(Doc A, B)As for the North , there was a lot of corruption due to Former President grant that committed fraud and caused the “ panic of 1873 “ which caused lots of jobs to discontinue and people to worry from it.(doc C)

The South killed reconstruction in multiple ways. The south ended reconstruction because of the non-violence racism, many terrorist groups, and igniting State issues. These factors led to the end of reconstruction because it held back the United states instead of moving forward after the 'lost cause' meaning the civil war. The South brought a end to helping rebuild them after the civil war.

Soldiers of the American Civil War were overwhelmed by a time where weaponry and technological developments were thriving. This brutal war changed the soldiers, both mentally and physically, and continued to have an impact throughout their entire lives. There were not only many deaths during the war, but also prior to the war as many soldiers took their own life. They would experience disturbing thoughts and events in their mind that could not be explained until they became known as mental illnesses. The exploration of psychological disorders following the Civil War improved medical diagnostic tools and the way patients were treated which transformed the treatment of mental illness by creating new ways of discovering illnesses, treating patients, and developing the foundation for the future of psychology throughout America.

Although the North dominated the Civil War reconstruction it is a whole different story. It would be understandable to presume that the North, who the war would have easily won reconstruction because they could have given the South as harsh punishment as they see fit. That didn’t happen, far from it. Abraham Lincoln proposed a plan which allowed the South to come back to the Union with little to no. This plan also would help rebuild the the war torn South after it was destroyed by numerous battles. Abraham Lincoln’s plan was not able to go through because he was assassinated, but Andrew Johnson proposed a similar plan that fell through. First off the South was able to rebuild a whole new railroad system which made travel easier. This was huge because now travel was faster, cheaper, and it created more jobs. Civil war is cray! During the Civil War, the North and the South had separated. The North was against slavery while the South wanted to maintain slavery as well as states rights. The North won the right to stay together as a country. However, the North and the South would need to come together. This is called Reconstruction. North or South: Who killed Reconstruction? Both North and South killed Reconstruction for the following reasons: the KKK had a great amount of power and influence in the South. As well as Government corruption in the North.

Throughout the 19th century, the distinctions between the North and South in the United States were controversial. Prior to the Civil War, the North consisted of business owners and middle-class men. The South consisted of mostly farmers. The North was industrial, using railroads and factories. The South was agricultural, with mostly farms and plantations. The North paid their labor workers. The South used slaves. Not only did their opposing views on slavery and the separation of the two cultures, tensions arose that eventually led to one of the most gruesome wars in history.

The North and South both ended Reconstruction. After the Civil War there was a time if rebuilding the nation called Reconstruction. During this time everyone had their own thoughts about the North and South, people of different race, and political offices. This leads us to a major thought, how the North and South ended Reconstruction. As people targeted carpetbaggers and scalawags, African American voters and Government Officials Reconstruction became more tense, also problems and racism in the North sprung about.

Geoffrey Chaucer once said, “all good things must come to an end”. This quote perfectly describes the period of Reconstruction in the United States. During 1876, America gained a lot of opportunities and technology, such as the recently developed railroads. They still had to recover from the Civil War, so they started Reconstruction Policies to reconnect the southern and northern states into one union. The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments were passed to help African Americans gain their rights, but then the new election came up. It was very controversial and to avoid a crisis, the government made Rutherford B.Hayes president if he removed federal soldiers from the South. This officially ended Reconstruction. Instead of fulfilling Lincoln’s dream, Reconstruction turned out to be a complete failure as it divided both sides (again) and created an irreversible shift. Officially, Reconstruction is recognized to have an end, not by success, but by disaster. Unlike what is often thought amongst people, the actual death of Reconstruction was caused by both sides of America; in other words, Southern resistance and Northern neglect.

The Civil war between the north and south was a fight sparked by conflicting ideologies. James McPherson detailed that honor, duty, patriotism and ideology formed the main sustaining motivations for the Civil War, while courage, self-respect and group cohesion kept men going in combat. Along with these McPherson In his book For Cause & Comrades McPherson describes soldiers initial motivations. The differences between the confederate and union soldiers’ motivations were more prominent than they were similar because their underlying goals for the future of America varied when it pertained to human rights.

When talking about the Civil War, many people believed it was the fault of the North or the fault of the South, well both are to blame. The North had problems with the very slow pace of fixing Reconstruction which basically made them look like a bunch of lazy human beings that look irresponsible and can’t get their stuff together. The South also had problems with the KKK and not having control this situation. This makes them seem like they can’t handle a huge

After the North won the civil war, it was time to rebuild this nation. This period of reconstruction was supposed to have a profound change on society. Unfortunately this was not the case. Reconstruction did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but nothing that really made a change or difference happened. First, the control of the south was given right back to the planter elite. Also, even though slavery was abolished; blacks were not free. Finally, Congress and President Johnson could not get along. Although the civil war reshaped this country profoundly. The reconstruction efforts did little but scratch a surface, before being quickly wiped away.

In 1861, a horrific war began. Nobody had any idea that this war would become the deadliest war in American history. It wasn’t a regular war, it was a civil war opposing the Union in the North and the Confederate States in the South.. The Civil War cost many people’s lives on the battlefield and beyond. In addition it cost an extreme amount of money for the nation which possibly could have been avoided if the war had turned to happen a little differently.
