In many cases war is terrible, and often times people wonder if it is possible to limit the imminent danger of war. After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, many Americans were scared and angry. They believed that the United States government could have prevented the attack. We’re here to discuss how we would limit the imminent danger of war. To start with, we would set a ban on nuclear bombs. The world has no real application for nuclear bombs. Why are countries in need of a bomb that can demolish a city? Nuclear bombs can level a city and make that area unlivable for countless centuries. A nuclear bomb can not only destroy cities, but it can have a long lasting effect on generations to come. When a nuclear bomb is detonated, it leaves nuclear …show more content…
The Geneva Convention is the prohibition of the use of asphyxiating, poisonous, or other gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare. Most of the gases banned are colorless, tasteless, and even odorless. Why would you need a gas that can kill people without them knowing it’s there? For example, one of the banned weapons is Sarin. Sarin is a colorless, odorless liquid, used as a chemical weapon. It’s considered a nerve agent and is lethal in small amounts. It is also considered a weapon of mass destruction. Why would any country ever use a weapon that the enemy can’t tell it is there? As stated with clarity, Sarin is terrible, but there are countless other terrible weapons, another one of these chemical weapon is Tabun. Tabun is clear, colorless, and tasteless liquid with a fruity odor. The effects of overexposure include “nervousness/restlessness, miosis (contraction of the pupil), rhinorrhea (runny nose), excessive salivation, dyspnea (difficulty in breathing due to bronchoconstriction/secretions), sweating, bradycardia (slow heartbeat), loss of consciousness, convulsions, flaccid paralysis, loss of bladder and bowel control, apnea (breathing stopped) and lung blisters” (Facts About Tabun, http://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/tabun/basics/facts.asp). As stated chemical weapons have no real
During World War II, President Harry S. Truman ordered for an atomic bomb to be dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6th ,1945. The second and last atomic bomb to ever be dropped was in the city of Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945. Many Americans believed dropping the atomic bomb was necessary to end the war in a more timely manner, however, many others believed dropping the atomic bomb was too extreme of a measure to take against Japan. With the creation of the atomic bomb, the United States had a weapon of mass destruction that no one else yet had. Therefore, with the power the atomic bomb possessed, some people believed its use should only be used as a last resort. If Japan would not surrender during this war, then the United States would have a valid and necessary reason in using the power of an atomic bomb. For the other Americans that believed in the immediate drop of the atomic bomb, dropping it would end the war sooner, which would then decrease the amount American soldiers who would be killed during the war. Whether dropping the atomic bomb on Japan was the most ethical decision that President Truman could have ordered is still debated.
The United States dropped their first atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. The explosion was tragic, “90 percent of the city was wiped out and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens and thousand more would later die to radiation exposure” (Lemay and Paul). Innocent children and citizens would die.
Welcome to ABC’s Rear Vision program, my name is Lisa and today we have a special guest to talk about the Darwin Bombings that occurred on February 19th 1942. This event rocked Australia’s defences and traumatized the Darwin community into fleeing to a safer refuge. Today we will be giving an insider’s view of what the event was like and how much it swayed Australia.
Atomic bombs can hurt about 100,000 people. They can get burns, radiation sickness, or even die from just one drop of this bomb. America and Japan have fought for four years, and Japan wouldn’t surrender. To make them surrender, America’s scientists created an atomic bomb, and dropped it onto Japan, and they finally surrendered. This nuclear weapon was needed to end war. The bombs did stop war and ended the rivalry between the two countries. Although, the bombs would pass along to other nations, ruin America’s reputation, and it affected a lot of people.
9.11.01 was a horrifying day for the people of America, as well as many others from across the globe. It has been 14 years since that day and people will still be remembering this day forever. People will never forget 9.11, where two planes that were hijacked by Islamic people sent by Osama Bin Laden and flown into the twin towers, and another plane that had hit the pentagon. I think of this day as the saddest day that America had ever had.
The devastating mass shooting at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon, inspires President Barack Obama to take the podium in outrage Thursday, to express his grievances and to call for tougher gun control.
I am sure that everyone of you have heard about aliens and UFOs. Indeed, we all have heard about the famous case of aliens and UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico. Most people might be interested in the topic of aliens, but I know that the majority of you just think of it as rumours and the existence of them are impossible. Therefore, I am standing here in front all of you to make you change your perspective. I am strongly confident that I have found the evidence of their real existence to convince all of you.
Elizabeth, excuse me for just walking in. First of all, I couldn't agree with you more. Bill and I were discussing this divine matter on the other day, and he pretty much said as you indicated. We wonder how it all began, who is responsible, and now we are witnessing the results around the world, and in America. America pre 9/11, except for Afghanistan, didn't have much of refugee problem like we do today, did we senator? At least not the eight years of Bill being the President. Coming from a former First Lady, a Senator, Secretary of State, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an American, and a Presidential Candidate, not only Bill, but I also have a good relationship with Bernie, but yours is a better one senator Warren. Bill and I think it's
We, the representatives of the United States, should not drop the second bomb, because the United States should not harm any more civilians. We have to prevent dropping the second bomb as soon as possible, or else many more innocent civilians will die. Over 70,000 people died, and the decision to either save or kill about another 100,000 people must be reached soon. We’ve also caused mass destruction to Hiroshima yesterday. Let’s give them time to surrender so we do not waste any resources, instead of believing that the first bomb hasn’t done anything when it was only dropped yesterday, waiting for Japan to surrender or negotiate will be a better choice than killing thousands of civilians just to force Japan to surrender.
The atomic bomb is the subject of much controversy. Since its first detonation in 1945, the entire world has heard the aftershocks of that blast. Issues concerning Nuclear Weapons sparked the Cold War. We also have the atomic bomb to thank for our relative peace in this time due to the fear of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The effects of the atomic bomb might not have been the exact effects that the United States was looking for when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively (Grant, 1998). The original desire of the United States government when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not, in fact, the one more commonly known: that the two nuclear devices dropped upon
The Atomic Bomb should be used very strategically and tactically in order to ensure a minimal loss of American life and a quick end to the war. Japan will not surrender until defeat meets them face to face. Japan’s women and children are jumping off of cliffs so that they can not be captured by the Allies. The Japanese soldiers are kamikaze bombing our American soldiers. Russia is preparing for an invasion into Eastern Asia. This madness must come to a halt. The United States needs to drop one Atomic Bomb on an outlying city of the capital, Tokyo. This will wake up the Japanese Emperor, Hirohito, and make for a quick surrender. We, however, cannot utterly destroy Japan with a second Atomic Bomb. We must remember that this is 1945 and communication is slow with the Asians. Their message of surrender will take several days to get to the United States. Therefore, we must save the second Atomic Bomb for an emergency situation only. In conclusion, only one Atomic Bomb should be dropped on an outlying city of Japan: to
Hours earlier he was a happy 4 year old that loved the Hulk, Iron Man, and all of the Avengers. Now as Bryson Mees-Hernandez approached death with his brain swelling from a bullet hole in his face, his mother assured the boy it was ok to die. Bryson was playing under his grandma's bed and accidentally shot himself with a .22 caliber in the face. Many ways could've saved his life if Bryson’s grandma would have stored the gun in a safe where Bryson couldn't have got ahold of it and accidentally shot himself. About 200 million Americans own guns; about 59.6% more males use guns for suicide than females. The only way to stop that is to build a safe reliable gun room.
July 16, 1945 is date of the first atomic bomb detonated in New Mexico. J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb, quoted from the Bhagavad Gita after the first detonation of the atomic bomb, “I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” Knowing the destructive capabilities of the atomic bomb, Oppenheimer regretted making the bomb, which was later used to end World War II with Japan. Despite knowing the devastating effects the atomic bomb can do, President Harry S. Truman decided that the atomic bomb should be dropped upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II with Japan. This would later cause a huge controversial topic on this matter, and which President Truman should had followed the advice of Joseph C. Grew, a former ambassador to Japan and Undersecretary of State, to find a more amiable approach to make the Japanese surrender in World War II without the usage of the Atomic bombs. Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal accounted the meetings he had to
On August 6, 1945 an American B-29 bomber successfully deployed and activated the first ever weaponized atom bomb over its target, Hiroshima. Upon detonation the bomb instantly killed around 70,000 Japanese also destroying ninety percent of the city. Three days later a second American B-29 bomber dropped another atom bomb over the city of Nagasaki killing an estimated 40,000 more people. The Japanese Emperor announced Japan’s unconditional surrender on August 15, 1945. The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was tragic, however, it was necessary to dissuade Japan from continuing war efforts and to accept unconditional surrender offered by the United States.
There are several different types of chemical weapons and they all have different effects on their victims. All the effects being extremely
