Nursing is the most trusted and reliable profession leading in the transformation of healthcare. “Nursing helps to promote, protect, and optimization of health and abilities to prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations” (American Nursing Association, 2017). Nursing offered careers for both men and women and it is the profession that provides healthcare everywhere. Society has great expectations for this profession. Caregivers are one the reasons why nursing is seen as the engine room of healthcare system. In the quest to provide preventive and restorative measures. When deciding to advance a nursing career from registered nurse to an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or APRN, there are many avenues to choose from. It takes a lot to faze me, blood, guts and bodily fluids are of no exception. I'm looking into the health field, as a registered nurse. My ASVAB score pointed to more of a social and realistic career, which pointed to more health related careers. I'm currently in the Lycoming Career Technology Center for health careers and I'm in my third year. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in field and I knew it would be a Nurse. Being in any occupation of the health field isn't easy the same goes for nurses. Countless hours of college education, repetitive relearning classes, semi-high salary and long hours, doesn't sound fun for some, but for me, it sounds great.

Between you and I we have said it all, you brought up the element of putting more doctors into the system, however, I read one study that stated MDs would rather work in major cities and not small towns. So, I believe the shortage will be handled by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs).

The proudest accomplishment in my educational career has been graduating with a college degree in a field I absolutely love. With all honesty, I cannot attest that I have always wanted to be a registered nurse. As my college transcripts reflect, I have taken a hodgepodge of classes in attempt to find something; anything I can be passionate about. I found that passion in my first nursing class, Introduction to Healthcare Careers, that I took at the community college. Initially, I planned on taking a few medical terminology and anatomy classes to assist me at work as a paralegal. At the time, I worked for an attorney who specialized in personal injury and medical malpractice law. I would work 40+hours a week at the law firm and nursing school/clinical hours were done on nights and weekends. I survived and graduated with my Associates degree in nursing.

During my first semester of college is when my idea of my ideal career changed. College is such an eye awakening experience. I learned more about myself and who I am then I could ever even have hoped to. I learned that a huge passion of mine was helping peo0ple, I got a genuine joy out of making people happy and making people feel better. After constant conversations with my parents we all concluded that maybe my major of business was not suited for me like we all had imagined and maybe possible career in the medical field would be better suited for me, which is why I decided to branch away from my major and research a more medical profession in this project. Please first address what or who has influenced your decision to pursue a career in healthcare?

My nursing career has been a journey full of gratification and personal success. Six years of bedside nursing has taught me how essential teamwork and communication is when working to restore health in the critically ill. Today I find myself ready to advance my career into a Master’s Degree. Advancing my career will grant me with the opportunity to service my community and allow me to treat my patient’s holistic needs. As an advanced practice nurse, I plan to use my knowledge to further educate, reinforce and advocate for those in need. The constant factor in the healthcare field is change! As the nursing professionals navigate the front lines of patients' care, they are typically exposed to change. As the year goes by, the nursing profession continues to change and progress at a spectacular pace. There are many current trends in the nursing profession, some of which are; the rise in the senior citizen's population, evolution of informatics, shortage of nurses and the researches on health outcomes.

As I walk into the doctor’s office for an annual check-up, all I see is white faces. From my doctor, to the nice lady that is driving a chart, and even the lovely person that is giving me a shot. I was discombobulated, puzzled by the unbalance dilemma of people that is here, in Children’s Hospital.

I chose to pursue a career in nursing career due to previous experiences at hospitals. When I was younger, I had multiple cases of hives. My parents would only know what it was called in Cantonese, but not in English. When we went to the hospital, we had to wait until a translator came because my parents felt more comfortable talking to someone who could speak in Cantonese with them. This meant the interpreter was the middle man between my parents and the medical team which would allow for more human error and communicate problems. Today, we live in a country where the people come from all over the country. Since not everyone speaks English, it is more beneficial to know multiple languages. Because all these people live in the same community, it would be difficult for those, such as immigrants, to excise actions such as calling a 911 operator for help or going to hospital in the event of an emergency. Growing up, my Cantonese speaking skills were able to improve and I was also able to learn Mandarin in high school. Being able to speak multiple languages will allow for me to talk to patients that only speak Cantonese or Mandarin without waiting for an available translator. Waiting for a translator could be for any amount of time, but within the waiting time an emergency could happen and lead to someone’s death. Many times, some word will sound similar between languages,

I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.

The career I currently have in mind would be a registered nurse. I believe my main source of interest in this career is that I have the desire to help people who are in need and who would care for them in hard times. Also, I am filipino and in philippines, most of the parents expect their kids to be nurse. The skills that I could apply for this career is that I’m a very hard worker person, I have the skill to communicate and collaborate effectively, and I have the passion to help people who are in need. I’ve wanted this career since I was 9th grade. I have a little experience in this career, because, I motivated and helped my sick grandmother to eat healthy food and to exercise so she can be stronger.
