At Harvard Middle School, a big, clean, fancy school, in class C103, a teacher named Mrs. Price holds up a old, dirty, red sweater and asks, ‘’whose sweater?’’ While she was holding the ugly sweater by its collar, she looks at Rachel. She walks over to Rachel’s desk and slams the red sweater on her wooden desk. Rachel said to her, ‘’this is not mine.’’ Mrs. Price replies, ‘’ of course it’s yours I saw you wear it one day.’’ Rachel replies, ‘’it’s still not mine.’’ Mrs. Price slams her big, red binder on Rachel’s desk. ‘’Don’t argue back with me.’’ Mrs. Price and Rachel kept arguing back and forth while the class was gasping over and over. While Mrs. Price and Rachel were arguing, a student across the room told Mrs. Price that the the old,
To set the demographics, Lacy Elementary School is a 60-year-old neighborhood school. Originally built to accommodate 500 students, the school is now over capacity, reaching a high enrollment of 650 students. Located in an urban school district, a majority of the students qualify for the federal breakfast and lunch program. The district has recently experienced a new rezoning, and in result there are buses now bringing 200 students from the surrounding neighborhoods to the school. Lacy Elementary opens its’ doors at 7:30 a.m., although school doesn’t begin until 8:30 a.m. Teachers are not required to report to school until 15 minutes prior to school beginning, however, teacher assistants or paraprofessionals are paid a stipend to supervise students before and after school. Although they have this opportunity, there are only two individuals who have chosen to supervise in the breakfast program. To provide additional assistance, PTA volunteers and administration are currently helping supervise when able.
Monday, January 29, 2018, was my first day at Saraland High School and it was my first day of observations. Saraland High School is located in Saraland, Alabama where it is a part of the Saraland City Schools School System. Saraland High School has a student population of approximately 1,000 students. The teacher that I will be observing for this semester is Mr. Kendric Cook. Mr. Cook teaches Health to 10th graders. Mr. Cook has been teaching and coaching for 6 years and this is his first year teaching at Saraland. On my first day, I got to observe Mr. Cook and his teaching styles. Mr. Cook told me before he started his lesson that he considers himself to be a non-traditional teacher. He likes to sit at his desk or sit on top of the student desk when he teaches because he really wants to make sure that his students are engaged in the lesson. Mr. Cook told me that when he was in school his health teacher would just sit at his desk and he would not really “teach” and he
As we drove up to Grand Island Senior High School, I could not believe my eyes at the size of the school. The towering, brown building towered over the surrounding area and seemed to only get bigger as we entered the doors. When I entered the milling commons the wide array of races danced through my vision as I heard the chattering of several different languages all around me. After talking to Mr. Hester I was relieved to hear that we would have a guide to navigating the maze of hallways. Once I was shown my first classroom, I meet Mrs. Kurz who was teaching a freshmen English class, and she was kind enough to walk me to my second classroom with Mrs. Kier and her sophomore theater class. While we were walking Mrs. Kurz informed me that during
In the short story, “Eleven”, by Sandra Cisneros, the main character, Rachel, feels upset with both the teacher and her fellow students because she feels mistreated, she feels made fun of, and she openly weeps in front of the entire class. Rachel, throughout the story, feels mistreated because the teacher, Ms. Price, will not accept the fact that the red sweatshirt does not belong to Rachel. It can be inferred that other classmates also show this kind of behavior to Rachel, even though it is not directly stated in the story. On multiple occasions, the teacher, along with other pupils, repeatedly say that the sweater belongs to Rachel. For example, the teacher states to Rachel that, “You put that sweater on right now and no more nonsense.” A
But I feel like I have to have an answer to why Mrs. Price was so mean to me, but it’s too late! It’s time to go home, and the buses have arrived. When I was walking toward the bus Mrs. Price looked at me and said, “You look like you’re thinking why I was very mean to you today, especially on your birthday, am I right? ’’ “Yes Mrs. Price I said.” “Well Rachel I was mean and unfair to you today because, I wanted to see if you were mature to be a eleven year old, “said Mrs. Price. “Oh, um, I thought…never mind.” I said. But why would Sylvia Saldivar say the red sweater was mine if Mrs. Price wanted to see if I was mature to be a eleven year old, I thought to myself. Right now you probably might be thinking why Sylvia Saldivar told me that the sweater was yours, right,” said Mrs. Price. “Yes Mrs. Price,” I replied. “Well, Sylvia wasn’t in this plan at all, I found this red sweater in court room, and I knew it was Phyllis Lopez’s sweater but Phyllis Lopez didn’t even look when I said, “Whose is this” so then, at the same time Sylvia Saldivar said it was yours, so that’s when I started to test you,” said Mrs. Price. “Wow,” I said to myself. I started tearing up, like when mama cuts the onion, I didn’t ever think Mrs. Price would test me!
It can be hard to stand up for yourself. Rachel knows what she wants, but it is hard for her to get it. Everyone thought that Mrs. Price was right because she is the teacher and “teachers are always right.” This shows that because Rachel did not find courage in herself, everyone just thought Mrs. Price was right. This also shows that Rachel was an outsider in the class if everyone took Mrs. Price’s side, and no one stood up to Mrs. Price.
Many years a young woman by the name of Martha moved to Montgomery to attend Huntington University. The young lady moved to Montgomery despite wanting to stay in New York but she knew of her father’s great love for his home state and her mothers legacy at Huntington. Martha instantly stuck out wearing all red and her décor also being red. Her cold attitude drove everyone away and caused every roommate she had to request a new room. The president of Pratt Hall where the red lady lived also tried to be roommates with Martha eventually the distant manner of Martha caused her to also move. This was the last straw for Martha since she felt the girl was her only friend she warned the girl she would regret this action. Martha would travel the halls
On 09/19/2017 at approximately 1715 pm Hrs. I Officer Mather was contacted by a teacher in the east part of the parking lot of Goddard Jr. High during school released. The teacher was identified as Cheryl Pallet. Pallet reported that she just left the school and found that her vehicle hood had a big dent in it. She also reported that other teachers told her that the custodian Mr. Green said that he caught a young man jumping on his car when school was released at 1605 pm Hrs. from the in school suspension room. The in school suspension room is located in the Portable 1 which is located on the east side of the school. For student that rides the bus would have to walk through the parking lot to leave.
In the events of the story. Rachel is given a sweater that isn’t hers but is forced to take it because the teacher was fed up with all the arguing, and gave it to rachel because she” remembers her wearing it once” so Rachel afterwards say’s “ Not mine, not mine, not mine, but Mrs. Price is already turning to page thirty-two, and math problem number
My classroom observation at College Grove Elementary gave me a lot of useful insight as to what the average day of a Physical Education teacher may be like. Some things were surprising and other things were as I expected them to be. One thing that was particularly interesting to me was all the different ways Mr. Dunn kept his class running in a smooth and orderly fashion. Using a microphone so the students could hear him well and so he could capture their attention, which can be hard to do with young children, letting the students run to warm up and get out energy, using the numbers on the floor to recapture the attention of the children and keep them attentive and focused, and using positive reinforcement were all wonderful skills
I observed Figarden Elementary School and the neighborhood during the afternoon from 2:30 p.m. till about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 14th. As I drove around the school I could see how nice and clean it was. It appeared to be newer and I could see benches around the office area for both students and parents. The paint wasn’t chipped and the school and the buildings were permanent. The playground was big and the grass was very green. I couldn’t see any equipment but play fields were nice and big. I remember driving in front of school and could see a banner on the fence with a school event an announcement of the school easel sign. The school is in the middle of very nice beautiful houses and if you drive about 5 to 10 minutes you will see
Rachel’s teacher, Mrs.Price, tries to find out whose red sweater it is and comes up with Rachel. Mrs.Price has a different view of the red sweater. She is thinking, “This red sweater has been in my closet and I want it out now.” Some of the words and phrases she uses to help me come to this conclusion include, “Whose? It’s been sitting in the coatroom for a month.” It also says, “Of course it’s yours.” Finally it says, “Because she’s older and the teacher, she’s right.”That explains her impatient character because she just wants it out so the first person that it might be, it is going with them. Rachel also has a hard time telling Mrs.Price her story.
Jonathan Byers was in the principal’s office for yelling at his English teacher because she was “Forcing me to do my work”. Ms.Beltran had just started her 1st period sophomore english class like usual, when Jonathan had walked in late with an obvious despicable temperament and attitude. She had noticed he wasn't working on the assignment she had given the class and decided to talk with him. She then approached him, and asked him, “Jonathan why are you not doing your work?” and he responded with “ i just do not feel like doing it Ms.Beltran.” Ms.Beltran did not take that well, and proceeded to try to get Jonathan to do his work, it was not the first time this has happened which resulted in him going to the office countless times.“Jonathan, all you have to do is read the article and answer the questions. What is so difficult about that?” Jonathan then stood up, as stated by some of his classmates, and began to shout at Ms.Beltran with curse words. “Do not tell me what do you stupid B***ch, it's my life you do not control me.” Ms.Beltran then grabbed her room phone and dialed for a monitor, who came fairly quickly. They took Jonathan
The auditorium began filling with an excited buzz as the auditorium filled with students. It was a big event, students from Gorton High School were going to be inducted into each honor society, by the Senior members who had already been inducted beforehand. The auditorium was hosting the honor societies which were the national, the Spanish, the math, the art societies and there was also one more that was for the medical students that were under classmen’s. it started a little late but it still ended up being good. Last year it was held in the library and it was full in there, so they moved it to the auditorium. There were multiple people that attended the ceremony. The upper classman’s that were already in the societies had the privilege to
An activity that I did in elementary school that I think would be a great idea to keep it going is that the teacher brought in a bunch of goodies that are circular. Some of the things that she brought in were pizza’s, cookies, pies, Oreos, etc. Before we got to eat anything, she explained to us that pi is the ratio of the circle’s circumference to its diameter. We all washed our hands and put on gloves to measure the diameter of the food available. Not only did she stress the importance of Pi, but when she cut the pizza we talked about fractions with the number of slices that the pizza had. I think that this is a great lesson for teachers, that I would love to use in my future classroom. Pi day is always supposed to be fun when in elementary
