Odysseus Is A Hero

Merriam-Webster defines a hero as, “A person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” For Odysseus to be a hero this definition is supposed to fit and describe him and his character, but why does this definition not describe or fit him and his character? This is because Odysseus is not a hero. Odysseus has done unethical things on his journey that makes him a person that should go unadmired. For example, when Odysseus ignored the death of his man in order to make more progress on his journey since he claims a task was pressing and waited for the Cyclops in order to be offered more gifts (his men die as a result), these examples prove he is a person who does unethical things. Odysseus is not a hero because he is disloyal, selfish, and greedy.

Odysseus with his men going through a lot of challenges but in the end he is the only one survived and alive. With this in mind, the epic poem showed us how big the difference between the people 3,000 years ago and people in this generation. In the story The Odyssey the main character Odysseus is not a true hero. A man with so much hatred and anger should not be someone to hold to a high prestige, or want to be. The needless killing and disrespect to other people 's wishes is not part of what a hero should be, or is to endanger the people that he is in charge of. This is why odysseus is not a true hero.

In The Odyssey, the main character Odysseus makes many debatable choices. Some may consider him a hero, some may think of him as a man with no morals. At the end of his story, he arrives back home at Ithaca. His actions display that he is just another man, and is certainly no hero.

From the passages i have read Odysseus is not a hero. The heroes that I've seen in the movies and books many of them don't kill there men on purpose which Odysseus did exactly that.Odysseus had many flaws one of them was the fact that he said that men were better than gods.Odysseus also abandoned his family.Odysseus is not a hero.

One reason why I believe that Odysseus is a hero is because in Homer’s text, Odysseus warns his crew about the Sirens. Since he warned his crew, he was able to prevent the Sirens from killing his crew, and saved their lives. In the text, it says, “I prepared for my people.”, meaning that he already had a way to protect them from the deadly Sirens. During his travels, he went through lots of danger to get home.

Odysseus is a true hero. A true hero is defined by dictonary.com as “a person noted for couragous acts or nobility of character.” Odysseus follows this definition, but he also has other traits that prove he’s a hero. During all of The Odyssey, Odysseus shows us that he is a hero, we see him at his best and his worst but through all of it he remains a hero. Odysseus is a true Greek hero because he is able to use his strength and knowledge to avoid a situation, he is brave, and he is loyal.
