Do opposites really attract? Can two people, with no similarities, share a close bond? It proves to be so in the novel Of Mice and Men , written by John Steinbeck. A novel which tells the story of two men, George and Lennie, and their journey of a new job working on a ranch. A novel with a different but interesting style of writing. A novel where John Steinbeck utilizes how powerful George is over Lennie, to signify how people believe they are dominant over others, because of their greater intelligence, social standards, or wealth. Throughout the novel, the theme of a strong person dominating over a weak person is witnessed. For example, George said, "You jus ' stand there and don 't say nothing. If he finds out what a crazy bastard you are, we won 't get no job, but if he sees ya work before he hears ya talk, we 're set. Ya got that?". Then Lennie replied with,"Sure, George. Sure I got it."-(Pg. 6). In this quote, it shows how George is dominating over Lennie. It shows that, because George tells Lennie with a type of force to not speak when they do arrive and talk to the boss. Lennie simply agrees, because he always agrees to George 's commands since he 's use to it. Also this theme appears within this quote as Curley 's wife said," You know what I could do?". With Crooks reacting back," Crooks seemed to grow smaller, and he pressed himself against the wall. "Yes ma 'am." ". And finally Curley 's wife replying lastly," Well you keep your place then, Nigger. I could get you
