A tragic hero is a hero who goes though a lot of things. Okonkwo is a tragic hero because is important in his society and he meets death of choices with courage. In things fall apart Okonkwo gets a lot of fame because he has three titles and three barns of yams.

One reason Okonkwo is a tragic hero is because he is important to his society. On page three of thing fall apart it saids “Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages even beyond.” It is saying that okonkwo is very famous throughout the land. He owned a lot of things when his famous. On page eight it saids “ He was a wealthy farmer and had two barns full of yams, and had just married his third wife.” This says that he was rich and had what he wanted. Okonkwo did want to be lazy and poor like his father so he did everything he could to be a better person than his father. On page sixty one it says “ Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought weak” this is saying that okonkwo didn’t want others to think he was weak because he is the most powerest person in town.Okonkwo receives treatment from the white people it saids on page 199 “As he lay on his bamboo bed he thought about the treatment he had received in the white man’s court. He swore vengeance. If Umuofia decided on war, all would go out and avenge himself.” this says that he wanted to kill the white man. Okonkwo has thoughts to kill the white men it saids on page 57 “ Yes, Umuofia has decided to kill him orack of the hills and the caves has pronounced it.” This says how he deals with that happened when he had to go the white man’s court.
