Origin stories are explanations of how something came to be. Superheroes have origin stories on how they obtained their powers, but the universe also has many different varying origin stories on how everything started. People made these stories to give others an explanation of how things became what they are. Many cultures have different stories, but were made with the same purpose of explaining creation. Some stories are slightly different from others because before they were written down most origin stories were told orally. No origin story is permanently right or wrong, humans are discovering new things about the universe that can change the modern theory of how the universe was created. The modern scientific origin story uses evidence to …show more content…
The modern scientific story is made from scientist and conclusions to experiments that support the ideas of the Big Bang Theory. Unlike the Chinese story the modern scientific story is fairly new and always changing with the new evidence that arises. The modern scientific story is that the universe started with a big bang from one little tiny point. The Chinese story is about a egg that held yin yang opposites that made chaos and also the man Pan Gu. When the egg broke Pan Gu separated the chaos and made the sky and earth, he grew taller making the earth bigger. When Pan Gu died parts of him became the mountains and the rivers. The Chineses might have come to this conclusion because eggs are a symbol of new birth in cultures and which might be why the universe came out of an egg. The back-stories are not the only thing that are different between modern science and the Chinese origin …show more content…
Both stories have the universe being made by one thing, while the modern story says a tiny point the Chineses story says an egg. While both things are different it is interesting that both stories have the universe starting from one spot. Also the modern scientific story says that while the universe was being formed energy was everywhere causing chaos with explosions and creations of things just like in the Chineses story where the egg was filled with chaos. Both stories have the universe started with chaos until things calmed down. Both stories have humans evolving from animals. The modern scientific story says humans evolved from monkeys and apes, while the Chineses story says humans evolved from fleas and ticks. It is interesting that both stories have similarities at all since each stories was formed thousands of years apart and when
but at the same time be so similar. The book of Genesis is a creation story that believes in that God is the creator of mankind and all of life on planet earth. “The World on Turtles Back” is a creation story that believes that all of the resources, food, and life come from two twins and a Sky Woman. “The World on the Turtles Back” says “The woman took the tiny clod of dirt and placed it on the middle of the great sea turtle’s back. Then the woman began to walk in a circle around it, moving in the direction that the sun goes.
Today, there are many theories on how the world was created however people have been speculating on how the Earth was created for years. It dates all the way to the Native Americans. The story “The Osage Creation Account” and “The Navajo Creation Myth” have both similarities and differences. First, both stories put strong emphasis on nature. Secondly, The Osage Account focuses on one specific animal whereas the Navajo Myth touches on many different creatures. Thirdly, both stories each have a completely different version on how the world was created.
The Native Americans created their own version of the creation story, as well as the Judeo-Christians. Both stories are very similar in a way but also different. As one believes in God, the heavens, and the Earth and the other in Skywomen, the Skyworld, and the Earth.
There’s tons of debate between which creation story is true. Some people say that the Adam and Eve creation story is true. Others truly think the Native American one is correct. But nobody alive today, has any idea which one is true, probably no one ever will. However, both Native American and Creation stories are similar in many ways. Both stories are different also.
As I mentioned above, everything began with Christopher Columbus discovering America in 1492. History is non-fiction, and perhaps the most concrete example of this non-fiction is the story of the beginning of the Indians. Native American mythology contains may different types of character including heroes, tricksters, and more. These characters can have both good and bad qualities, and fall into many categories. For example, creator gods usually restore order, but in some stories can be destructive. Tricksters can even be considered the hero in some stories. (Myths Encyclopedia, 2007). Indian stories are born from experiences and beliefs. Ross also states that “Native American societies are based on the concept of interdependence. Interdependence
People have contemplated many different theories about the creation of the world. There are two versions that rival each other and those are the religious and the scientific version.
To begin with, the main similarity in these stories was the divine creation of the world and of humans. In the Genesis account, God created everything out of nothing, which started with the creation of the heavens and earth (Gen. 1:1 NIV). Succeeding these creations, God continued to add things to the earth, which included day, night, land, water, vegetation, and also living creatures (Gen. 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,26).
It is an important thing to learn about other cultures and how they believe that the earth was formed. By reading these two accounts of creation, one can begin to have a deeper understanding of the people that believe it. It also seems that although there may be some differences between the account in Genesis and the account in the Popul Vuh, the similarities are what matters. It is through the similarities that one can see the hand of God over everything. Everything points to God, the true Creator, in the
The origin of the universe started out billions of years ago. To clarify, “estimated ages for the universe within the range of 10 billion to 15 billion years” (Steering Committee on Science &. Creatio). Additionally, I do follow this theory because I think the universe started out small and humongous compared to earth. Basically, I think the earth slowly evolved and formed to what it is today. On the other hand, humanity came in to play starting off as something producing the first cells (Steering Committee on Science &. Creatio). I think something
In the beginning the settlers created the heavens and the earth. For, America was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the continent. Or was it? Why is it that people automatically assume that America started when the settlers arrived, and that there was nothing before? Sure we can read the cute Native American mythology, but aside from that we don’t talk about America before the settlers. Would you like to hear more about the settlers, how America was before they arrived, and are you willing to learn of the holocaust that our history books aren’t willing to tell us about? Good, then keep reading.
I agree with the lecture because we humans as curious creatures, always need some kind of explanation to the origin of the universe. Early humans didn’t have the correct answers of the universe, they used what they had at the time and what made sense to them as explanations. When the universe was only 10,000 years old, early humans used myths and stories to explain cosmos and creation, because that was all they had. They praised the gods and goddesses for the natural resources they had to live on. As time went on, (40,000 years ago) Australian Abnormal Culture cosmos evolved into art and music, expressing their connection with animals, landscape, and the sky; believing what little they knew about how the universe originated. As civilization
Both of the creation myths, Chinese Yin and Yang and Greek Plato’s Story of Timaeus, describe a way of how the world came to be, therefore establishing the culture behind both of the myths. Together they help to explain how both religion and society developed. In the Chinese myth during creation, Yin and Yang strive to come together and create the first human. This was a huge step in the direction of the constructing the universe and coming together as a whole. In Plato’s story, he creates the cosmos, which is the foundation for explaining how religion and the world was established.
I have learned bunches of information reading the two creation stories. Like they were two separate accounts of the creation of earth not just sections. The major differences of the two were more than I remember from when I was a small boy. Also how difficult it would be to try to explain to someone when the world got here, and the easier part of telling how it got here. This assignment was one I enjoyed and learned a great deal on even though it wasn’t along
Firstly, according the religious and mythological concepts of creation along with the forming of man and the universe itself, our origin in Genesis and in the Mayan creation Myth both believe that God exists and that all men came from God in a step by step as well as a quick
Humans are naturally dependent people, although they desperately try to be independent. Each person was created to live in relationship with people, and this desire to love and be loved is ingrained into humanity because the Creator is a relational being. The Creator of the heavens and earth loves humans so deeply, He sacrificed His own son to restore the relationship between His perfect self and imperfect humans. God, the creator of all things, desires to have an intimate and personal relationship with every individual, but human sin prevents that from happening. However, since God is more powerful than sin He had a plan to reconcile and restore humanity to Him before the world was even created.
