Book Review
By. Evan (Daddy) Moss That Was Then This Is Now By S.E. Hinton. I would give this book a 5 out of 5. The reason that I give this book a 5 out of 5 is that S.E. Hinton also wrote the Outsiders which was also a great book. I can kind of relate to this story as well. These boys go through a lot in this book I think it is a great book to read. The book Is mainly about Bryon & Mark they are best friends. Mark has lived with Bryon & his mom ever since marks mother and father had a deadly altercation which left them both dead. All together the book talks about them growing up and what they had to grow up in. Well like I said Bryon & Mark are the two main characters in this book. There are also some secondary characters like Charlie
This is a story of baseball and how it is a team sport. The book relates with the title by showing how this boy named Sandy Comstock that plays on the Grantville Raiders and has a big game coming up. It was against the Newtown Raptors. He wanted to beat them and become one of the best teams. By the time he knew it he ended up on the Newtown Raptors team and he was going to play is old team. It was kind of like a baseball turnaround.
In the book it Bryon talks about how after he started dating Cathy him and Mark didn’t really hang out and have fun anymore. Bryon matures and doesn’t hang with Mark and becomes more selfless he said,” I had quit thinking about myself.” He was talking about how he now cared for Cathy and M&M. The final thing he did for maturing in the book was do the right thing even though he didn’t want to. He called the cops
The book takes a lot of perspectives mainly among Aries, Clementine, Michael and mason. This is really good compared to other books. The multiple perspective makes it feel like a movie and mixes it up. Also, it has an abundance of suspenseful cliff-hangers that make you crave to read more and lead you on. The characters also aren’t afraid all the time and cower how most teens would. They seem to know how to live in the moment, and have good times and joke even when there is danger. That shows us they are fearless kids just about.
This book is how Ben McBain always loved sports. And it was the beginning of basketball season. He had a friend who's name is Sam. And they had a friend lily Wyatt. Lily was Ben’s closest friend. Then one kid came to town who's name is Chase Braggs. Then every one was talking about chase, that he's fast strong like ben when he played basketball but chase liked to talk allot, but sam didn’t. Bens team name is Rams and they where going to have a scrimmage against chases team.
The book I am reading is That Was Then, This Is Now by S.E. Hinton. This book is in the first person point of view. In the beginning of the book it starts off by telling you about the two main characters of the story which are Mark and Bryon. The story is told by Bryon. Bryon and Mark consider each other to be brothers because Mark doesn’t really have a family. They live at home with Bryon’s mom. The two boys go to their friend Charlie’s bar all the time and the book introduces Charlie. Mark and Bryon are both under age and they are not supposed to be in the bar but Charlie lets them come in and buy some cokes. They owe Charlie money so they went to M&M. M&M is a friend of theirs.
The book is about this guy named Mike Johnson. His dad had him start school 1 year late. When Mike was in 8th grade the high school football coach sent out letters that say if you, are invited to go to the high school football practices. Mike, Drew and their other friend Deshawn all got a letter. For Mike there are 5 other running backs and the number 1 running back's name is Matt Drager. So Mike’s dad tells him to pick off the running back’s one by one by starting with number 5 and go up. So he starts picking them off and he gets to number 2 running back. Drew also gets number 2 quarterback. Every game Mike gets put on special teams. During the week of the biggest game of the year against Foothill Matt and the starting quarterback got caught drinking and couldn't play. Mike and Drew started practicing with starters all week they were
The book That was Then, This Is Now is about to really good friends Bryon and Mark starting to go their separate ways. Bryon was a 16 year old hustler who lived in a hood. His mother was poor and she had adopted his best friend Mark. Mark was an illegitimate who was adopted by new parents that got in a drunken fight and killed each other. Mark was a thief, and he always got away with everything that he possibly could do. Teen kids in there element who thought they could rule the world, everything was theirs and that nothing could possibly go wrong. They did everything bad together smoke, drink, jump kids for their money, steal, skip school, take drugs and get into gang brawls.
Mark and Bryon live very similar lives. They both come from a poor background and have to find a way around many things. They are both very strong when it comes to solving problems and using their knowledge. Bryon and Mark both grew up in difficult situations. No matter what the scenario is they are always there for each other. This is one of the reasons I believe the boy have such a strong bond. For example, when Mark got into a fight at a school dance, Bryon was there right
My opinion on the movie I watched, “The Outsiders” is that it was okay. I found some parts boring. There were some parts that was trying to be as emotional as the book and they looked very fake. The director of the movie was Francis Ford Coppola. The author of the book was S.E. Hinton. The Year the movie was made was 1983. The movie was about two gangs. The Socs and the Greasers. Two Greasers (Johnny and Ponyboy). A group of Socs jump them and Johnny is forced to kill one to save his friend from drowning. Johnny and Ponyboy run from the law to a small town named Windrixville. They soon become heros.
Fracis Ford Coppola’s “The Outsiders” (1983) is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by E.Hinton published in 1967. There are many theories that can be found throughout the movie, victim precipitation theory, differential association theory, strain theory and labeling theory are the most prevalent. The story takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma and revolves around the story of a 14 year old Greaser named Ponyboy Curtis. The town is split into two conflicting adolescent groups, the Greasers and the Socs. The Greasers are of lower class standings with harsh upbringings, poor kids from the wrong side of town (north) and are considered delinquents. The Socs, are privileged kids living on the south side who have an easy life where everything
Mark and Byron lived together with Bryon’s mother after Mark’s parents died. They were best friends growing up and they hustled people in bars for money by playing pool. Due to this they occasionally got in some trouble with certain people leading into fights. Basically this story is about certain events in their lives that end up destroying many relationships including Mark and Bryon’s friendship. After Bryon and Cathy, a girl Bryon
This novel was set during the post war period, this was a time when independence and rebelling against parents and law was more important than doing the right thing, during these times of independence, and teenagers needed friendship more than anything else.
Bryon is a very caring person. Mark is Bryon’s best buddy. They were raised together from when they were younger. Mark’s parents killed each other in a drunken brawl so he has lived with bryon most of his life. “Mark was my best buddy and i loved him like a brother”.
Mark has also been Bryon’s adoptive brother since his parents shot each other in a fight over his legitimacy. The two teenagers live with Bryon’s mother, who is in the hospital post-operation at the start of the story. The family is very poor and they are having trouble getting together enough money to pay for the operation. Mark and Bryon reminisce about their childhood.
Ponyboy Curtis - The novel's fourteen-year-old narrator and protagonist, and the youngest of the greasers. Ponyboy's literary interests and academic accomplishments set him apart from the rest of his gang. Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his brothers Darry and Sodapop. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense, but Ponyboy is a reliable and observant narrator. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love. He matures over the course of the novel, eventually realizing the importance of strength in the face of class bias.
