Geography will make or break an empire. China had all the key components to make them dominate their competition and utilize resources. China's natural defenses, river valleys, and impressive trade system led to a thriving empire. In ancient China, the geography consisted of natural barriers including oceans and vast mountains. The mountains have always been very hard to climb over, so you’d have to find a way through them, and even that was hard. The Himalayas helped to protect the early people who settled in China from invasion. The mountains even isolated China from the rest of the world. If it weren’t for the man-made borders and lucky geography, China might not have been as successful as they are. Now, these mountains weren’t
Ancient China was a very successful country, it has created lots of history that we couldn’t forget. Ancient China is successful because of three main points, ordinarily, inventions have a huge impact on a country’s success, and Ancient China has created inventions thats very useful, we still use some inventions that were created during Ancient China. Ancient China got incredible good resources, they have the second longest river in the world that they could use to survive, resources makes Ancient Chinese created cultures thats unforgettable. Out of all, Invention, resources and cultures has made Ancient China become successful, Inventions help people in Ancient China have a better live.
During the times of Ancient China, people from other civilizations were cut off from China because of the Himalayan Mountains and the Gobi Desert being in the way. While these obstacles acted as protection for the Ancient Chinese civilizations, it also cut off connections with any possible allies that could provide resources, as well as protection if needed. Due to the
In ancient China, A young man named Ning was searching for temporary shelter to stay when he travelled to a vacant temple. This temple looked unusual neat without any monks. When Ning tried to explore this temple a little bit. He heard a beautiful female voice came from somewhere inside this temple. The charm of her voice lingered in Ning’s ears. Ning followed the voice and entered a strange room. Suddenly, the floor disappeared and Ning dropped into a strange colorful world full of supernatural. He soon discovered these people around him are not alive and they can smell the odor from alive human. Monsters, ghosts, and magical creatures were moved restlessly because of Ning’s smell. Ning did not know he is in a great danger. He did
“Now, I, Vairocana Buddha am sitting atop a lotus pedestal; On a thousand flowers surrounding me are a thousand Sakyamuni Buddhas. Each flower supports a hundred million worlds; in each world a Sakyamuni Buddha appears. All are seated beneath a Bodhi-tree, all simultaneously attain Buddhahood. All these innumerable Buddhas have Vairocana as their original body.” (passage from the Brahmajala Sutra)
Now I’ll tell you about the geography of China. On the east of China there are two bodies of water, the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. Then in the Southeast corner of China there is the South China Sea. In the Southwest corner is India. Sharing with India on its borders there is the Himalaya Mt. and within them is Mt. Everest which is one of the biggest mountains in the world. Coming from the east, the Yangzi River flows in and stops right around the center of China. Above it is the Huang He River that flows on the same direction the Yangzi River does. The top center of China is the Gobi Desert. There are many more geography than this but here are just some that I chose to talk about.
The golden age of China was the Tang Dynasty, its harsh punishment for crime showed the minimal need for people to steal, and the care for hygiene showed the advancements in its time. In the Tang Dynasty, climbing over the many city walls was punishable by 90 blows with a thick rod. This harsh punishment showed how little the crime rate was, and how small the need to commit crime was due to the state of the economy, and how the wealth was spread among the poor. This low crime rate might have been because of the prosperous and opportunistic state that citizens lived. Another strong sign of the Tang being the golden age of China, was the importance of hygiene, for the fortunate citizens of Changan, bathing was a necessity. At that time, most
Physical geography has shaped China’s history through major rivers allowing new transportation, mountains dividing culture, along with plateaus creating sustainable farm land. Rivers have been a key characteristic of the development of Chinese civilization. A major river in China, the Yellow River has been able to support a major transportation and shipping artery throughout the country. This has allowed for the bringing of materials and people to new locations. Mountains have been able to separate different ethnic groups and tribes which have created different religions and rituals in China. This has led to the formation of new traditions and differences based on location. The Loess Plateau is a major geographical feature in China which has
The Yellow river, the East China Sea, and the Pacific Ocean are located to the east of China. Mountain ranges and deserts dominate about two-thirds of China’s landmass. Taklimakan Desert and the Plateau of Tibet are in the west of China. To the southwest are the Himalayas. The Gobi desert and the Mongolian desert is in the north of China. The Huang He’s floods could be disastrous. Sometimes floods destroyed the villages. Because of China’s relative geographic isolation, early settlers could not trade with other peoples. China’s natural boundaries did not
“Chinese empire building vastly enlarged the territorial size of China and brought a number of non-Chinese people into the region” (Strayer, 640). This influx of different people allowed China to grow as a nation and introduced China to many different cultures. New people meant new languages, new skills, and new technology which aided in the strong empire building. China appealed to many
mountains, deserts, and seas acted as barriers, and kept the people of China mostly isolated
Throughout history, society has adapted to different social and environmental conditions, which created rich cultural diversity. Different natural resources forged varied economic opportunities. For example, the Gupta Empire which controlled Northern India from. 320 - 550 CE, had abundant amounts of ores and precious stones, which helped fuel their unstoppable trade routes. On the other hand, ancient China was known for their luxurious silks and expensive fabrics. Between these two dominant empires in the Asian continent, across separate time periods, both were able to evolve and develop a completely unique culture.
China's geography was very large because it is a very large country. The have a lot of natural barriers including mountains, rivers and deserts. The south is wet and tropical, with some rainforest. North-west China is covered in desert. The chinese people adapted to this by making many unique civilizations that were separated from any other civilization. The civilizations were unique because the natural barriers caused them not to be able to get to any other civilization so each one had unique ideas and inventions. If there wouldn't have been natural barriers then there would probably be less civilizations or the civilizations would be similar because they get get to each other and copy ideas and inventions.
There were several inventions during medieval times in China. However, there were three key inventions that advanced the Chinese culture. These three inventions were kites, compasses, and boat rudders. All of these inventions played significant roles in the advancement of navigation.
Many cultures around the world have different customs that aim to separate that culture from the world so they might feel the most prestigious and superior. Many of their customs are used so different standards can be met, like beauty and power. Some of the traditions were outlawed or ceased to be practiced many years ago, but others still do exist. Usually painful customs, they can be inflicted upon both men and woman. They often began with the higher class people of prestige and then filtered down to all classes who aspired to be as the elite did. The practices were also often necessary to find a marriage partner. If the beauty standards were not met, the people could would be considered lowly and would probably die alone. Two cultures that had customs to achieve a unique standard of beauty were Chinese and African cultures. In china, this practice was foot binding and in many African cultures, it is wearing neck rings.
Archaeology has allowed society to gain a vast understanding of past cultures and behaviours over thousands of years ago. Scientific research has allowed us to widen our knowledge on humans and their past interaction. Through the excavation of the Terracotta army, many insightful secrets have been uncovered. Buried in a large mausoleum over 2200 years ago, the site reveals past hints of cultures and beliefs during the ancient civilisation of China, although techniques need to be implemented to better preserve one of the rarest ancient treasures and evidence that remains. The Terracotta warriors are an army of clay built by the ancient emperor Quin Shi-Huang. When excavating the site many significant items have been found that have provided scientists with lots of research. Many problems have been evidently found while excavating and a few controversies have been sparked.
