The small changes I have made, have had very low amount of difference from my grades. I believe I did really good studying these last couple of weeks, and my grades have shown because I have a 4.0 in the 2nd quarter. I still think though that my note taking method is a lot more efficient than the ones I tried. I tried using all of these weird methods like taking different kinds of notes such as longer and more detailed ones rather than my bulleted points.
In class I still contributed the same amount, I believe I was doing really good talking in group discussions. I also think that I stayed on task a little better when I asked questions to the teacher. But, ultimately, I think my process of participation in class is perfect. I also think that the

The active reading method seemed to make tests a lot harder compared to my previous reading habits. It also has made school work a lot tougher because I tend to forget things during the school work from what I have read. I think that none of active reading helped me, I feel like I am staying with my current reading method.
I tried to read in different locations such as in my room rather than in the living room. I also have tried to read in more public places so people would watch me get distracted and hopefully keep me from that. I also have changed the time of day, which I think that it has had no difference in my reading comprehension. I used to read at times different from late at night and it has had no difference on my grade.
Since I have tried to get more from my homework I have had a grade go from 99% to 92%. I have also gotten my homework done later, and not as efficiently. I also think that this is making it harder for me to get my work done on time because it has been tougher because I try to spend too much time reviewing. As a whole I think I got more out of my homework before this than I did when I tried to do it other
Before English 101 I used to read and not analyze what I read. This would make it real hard for me to understand what I just read. And when I would read I would skip many words because of how fast I read the book. I would read the book but would have no clue what I just had read. But once I analyzed the book it helped me enjoy reading.
Students who read on a regular basis are more likely to comprehend the difficult questions on standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. This is because the more a student reads daily, then they are more likely to recognize the antiquated words and complex passages found in literature. Lana Winter-Herbert suggests in her article “10 Benefits of Reading: Why You Should Read Every Day” that daily readers are exposed to more words that will “inevitably make their way into your everyday vocabulary.” This expansion of vocabulary can transform an
Participation in class has been no problem for me over the semester. I have only missed one day for English 111 and as for my other classes I have only missed certain credit hour days due to reasons I could not help. I try coming to class prepared with my Little Seagull Handbook and They Say I Say book. I enjoy taking notes as my professor talks in class, lecturing of certain assignments that needs to be done. Peer review is how I use my group assignment time in English 111, which has helped me
Since I would not accomplish my assignments, I knew this would affect my grade. Now I found ways to stay more organized in my assignments. For example, I now have the habit to write down all my assignments in a planner. Having a planner is very helpful, because now I am able to keep track of each assignment.
So everyday I would beg my mom and sister to help me with my reading. My mom would always help me whenever I asked, but my sister was a little bit harder to convince. Usually she would help me though. Once I began learning how to read, I realized how much fun it was. It was all I ever wanted to do. Whenever I was bored, I would just sit down and write out all the words that I could. But I would soon learn those words and go look through books to find new ones to learn. I quickly caught on and I was able to read simple books very well. I would practice whenever I could. When I was in the car I would read all the street signs and names of buildings that we passed by. Reading became my go to whenever I was bored, sad, angry, or just wanted to have a little
When I was little, I would enjoy reading books such as, Henry and Mudge, and also Captain Underpants. These were some books that I was able to understand because of them being less rigorous. As a grade school student, I was never the strongest reader. It was hard for me to understand and comprehend the material I was learning. In class, we would read short chapter books together as a class and take brief quizzes on the chapter then after. I believe the turning point to becoming a substantial reader happened when my family and I moved. I attended a different school in a different school district going entering fourth grade. Switching schools I think has benefitted me, and I think it was good I was still little because I felt as if the new school district I was in, District 303 in Illinois, give students more assistance and one-on-one to help us become stronger readers. When my class would start reading in class, I would step out of class and meet a
Since I forced myself to stay motivated throughout the unit I was learning, I felt I was improving a lot than before. I knew most things in the unit and would mostly aced every quiz. I study harder each day, eliminating my distraction and thinking about it benefiting my grade. I was still procrastinating throughout my study, but this didn’t stop me for completing my goal which was to ace the test. At the end, I manage to actually get an A- and bring my grade up by a lot.
Then I noticed on my homework everything was less complicated. I started to know what I was doing. because I sat by people that I would talk to and then I was just filling out a note sheet and had no clue I was doing. They didn’t help me focus on my homework so I changed. Then Everything was simple again and my grades became
I would say that my grade for class participation should be a B plus. Even though I didn’t participated in class discussions as much as I did in the last unit, I did participated pretty well in group work, on Ram Pages and going to watch the FI film “An Honest Liar”. I believe overall, that, I believe I have the characteristics of a good contributor.
My class that really require a lot of reading is English 101, I preview the textbook to have an idea what am about to read, I tried to read a few pages and absorbed the text for better understanding, and highlight some phrases for references as I read in case of reference, I take note in my own words for later recovering of my reading. Once I get bored I just glance through the rest of the pages. How to improve effectively with the reading strategies is to finding new ideals to present research materials in a different ways and learn habits of break assignment into pieces.
In humanities class I have really improved my PIE. My conventions is still not perfect but I'm trying to improve. I read some of my papers that I wrote in 6th grade and let me tell you that they are something that makes me question myself how could I write so bad. To me what I wrote back then is something that I can look at and see how much I've grown in writing. Back then I had so many conventions in my papers that if I had those errors my writing grade would be very, very low.
Reading for me has been a big improvement since my high school years. Back then, I did not like to read and I would avoid it at all cause. Obviously it would affect my grade but I just could not pick up the book and read. Now a days, I actually enjoy reading, and it all started when my son was small I used to read to him every night before bed, now I read to my daughter (my son does his own reading now). Once I got in the habit of reading I traded the TV for a book. I was very proud of myself when I actually finished the book and it encouraged me to continue to read. So I started taking trips with my kids to the local library. (Funny thing we all have a library card). I have read books that I would have never thought I would actually read. My reading has improved and I don’t have a lot a difficulty concentrating, just yesterday I was reading my history book in the cafeteria at COC.
Think about the strategies you use to understand what you are reading. It is important to understand each line, paragraph, and chapter you are
Without these new strategies, writers would continue to write the same and never try anything new. According to Lisa Ede in The Academic Writer, reading actively helps the reader decide whether or not the writer is correct and if they agree or disagree with what the author is saying. Without this thinking, the reader would not be able to question the author and would mindlessly follow what the author is saying. This is also good practice for questioning other people in a discussion based event. Lisa Ede also said that by reading actively one can learn how to persuade, convey, and show information much better. When reading actively, much more is retained and the reader will be able to describe a clear picture of what occurred in the text because they were so focused. If the reader didn’t read actively, it would be difficult for them to persuade other about the text because they wouldn’t remember as much information. If the reader decides to not read actively, there is no point in them even reading because they will retain very little information, and they will be reading just to get through the
Reading is believed to be an easy task, something we all learning and develop through the years as we grow, however, is it really that simple? To reading and understanding are both essential when a student begins to read. It is a complex action that requires a multitude of different actions/components, all working at the same time, to become a successful reader. The components that are pertinent to reading are: comprehension, oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency and vocabulary. Without these components, reading may very well be irrelevant because it does not make sense to read and not understand what is being transmitted/relayed. According to the National Reading Panel (NRP), “a combination of techniques is effective for
