Potagonian Mara In this short S.A I’ll be talking about the Patagonian Mara a type of Rabbit which lives only in the arid central and southern region of Argentina. This area is mostly classified as Desert from sandy plains to thorny shrub lands.Rain is very unpredictable In this area.It is quite warm, with temperatures tired reaching 20 degrees celsius and in winter it rarely goes below zero. The Patagonian Mara builds its dens in open habitat however with the cover of low growing plants such as grass.Though there dens are in heavily vegetated areas they visually look out for predators. The Patagonian Mara is a type of a Rabbit or more specifically it's part of the Caviidae family. In this family the Species is known as the Patagonian Mara
Chrysocyon brachyurus, more commonly known as the Maned Wolf, is one of the more peculiar canids residing in South America. While this animal may be classified as a wolf, it has several differences in behavior and habitat than its North American and European counterparts Amusingly dubbed the “fox on stilts” the maned wolf is the largest canid of South America with a more slender body plan giving the animal a slender almost gangly appearance. The species is known to dwell in savannah type habitats mostly in isolation until their breeding season sets in. The animals are omnivorous sticking to small mammals and vegetation they pose little to know throat to humans, however these animals are still subject to reduced mortatlity rates, putting them in a “near threatened” category. Unfortunately, there is only a limited amount of research available regarding the maned wolf, leaving a few holes to be filled in their profile.
I studied many things about Guatemala such as, the culture, religion, food, population, geography, imports, exports, and most popular of all sports. The sports of Guatemala is something I found very interesting.
The Saga of the Tigua Indians is an amazing one. By all reasoning they should have been wiped out long ago. There quiet defiance to change, however, has carried them through. From the height of civilization to near extinction the Tigua have remained. They endure imprisonment by the Spanish, oppression and manipulation by everyone that followed. This is the story of a people thought to extinct, that are once again learning to survive.
According to Feder, K (2013) the name Teotihuacan (Place where men become Gods) was derived from the Aztecs. The Teotihuacan was the largest pre-Columbian city in the Americas in the first half of the first millennium C.E. Till this day no one knows for sure who the Teotihuacan really were. The city was also the center of a major civilization which bears its name, and its influence throughout Mesoamerica. The city flourished between 2,100 years ago, when construction began, and about 1,400 years ago. According to Vance, E. (2014) in his article Gods of Blood & Stone, “The Teotihuacan was an extensive empire that predates all the highland civilizations in the
What does it mean to be a leader? Is a leader someone who can take control when a firm hand is needed? Or perhaps it is the man who is willing to stand up for what he believes in. I used to think of leaders as impressive and impeccable meta-humans. They were men and women who I thought were simply cut from a different cloth and beyond someone like me. Now I believe that a true leader, is that special someone who is willing to get up early and start making breakfast. I believe the hero takes the two-minute walk to find fresh water. During my time at NOLS Patagonia I was able to tune into what it truly meant to lead your peers. When I entered college with the mindset of tackling freshman year, I found myself unprepared for the workload.
El Chupacabra, translation:“Goat Sucker.” This is definitely something you don't want hanging out with your dogs or other outdoor animals that you may have. Don’t let “Goat Sucker” fool you, this will eat anything alive it can get its grubby hands on. Just because the name is in spanish does not mean it isn't in the U.S. Although the first sightings were in Puerto Rico, more sightings have been reported throughout all of the Americas. They have been reported as far north as Maine and as far south as Argentina.
An essay on the art, architecture, and the rise and fall of the ancient Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan
In the 1500’s in Peru, there was a king named Huayna (Wayna) Capac, the third Sapa Inca ruler, the sixth of the Hanan dynasty, and the eleventh ruler of the Inca civilization. He appointed on of his sons to rule after he died, but as Huayna died of small pox in 1528, so did his elected son, Ninan Cuyuchi. Due to this sudden lack of leadership two of his other sons jumped into action to claim the throne. One, the favored son, Atahualpa ruled in the north, and his older half brother, Huascar, ruled in the south until it came to a full on civil war that lasted six years. In the end Atahualpa won the war and killed his half brother, his family, historians, and destroyed the Incan Quipu records. This was all done to create a sense of total renewal, and was called Pachakuti (turning over of time and space).
Back in 1697 when the island of Hispaniola was divided for possession by the France who took over the western side, and Spain who ruled over the eastern side.
The Inca civilization was one of the greatest of its time. It was a civilization that
In 1532, a spaniard explorer, Francisco Pizarro sailed to the Americas in search of gold. However when near South America he encounters the Inca. He manages to capture their newly renowned leader Atahualpa and slaughters many of the indigenous Inca. He ransoms the ruler for a room full of gold, however murders the leader anyway. Due to this event, the brother of the dead ruler, Manco Inca is then made leader of the remaining Inca.
Germs affected many people that were exposed to new diseases. The Inca tribe were some of the individuals affected. For example, when the Spaniards attacked and captured some Inca people as slaves, they showed signs of illness when sailing to Mexico. The disease that seemed to cause the Inca people to become ill was smallpox, but the Spaniards didn’t seem to be affected. There were always people who were genetically better at being able to fight off the particular smallpox virus. These people were more likely to be able to survive an outbreak and have children, passing their genetic resistance in the process. Over time, populations acquired some degree of protection from diseases like smallpox - a protection the Incas never had. The Incan’s
I chose to do a report on the black tailed rabbit, and it’s amazing function to cool itself down through it’s blood vessels. The black tailed rabbit’s scientific name is Lepus californicus, which translates into California Hare. The black tailed rabbit is around 61 cm, and can weigh up to 2.7 kilograms. They inhabit the grassland areas in western U.S and Mexico.
Spain’s early entry into colonization in the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America shaped European and developments by establishing a base colony in Hispaniola. Early entry into the new world gave them the advantage of being the first to start collecting new materials. The Native Americans had gold, which, once the Spanish realized that they carried gold, was their main goal. The Spanish even had gold quotas for everyone over 14, and if they were not reached, it was definitely a bad sight. Once Columbus returned to Spain to give word of the new land, he was sent back with a much larger fleet, but the 39 people he left in Hispaniola were killed by the Native Americans. This caused outrage, and Christopher Columbus ordered the capturing and killing
